Unions busted? Check! How can we fuck over workers next? How about Worker's Comp?

I'm often found criticizing Belgian unions as they often go too far and come on too strongly, clinging to outdated business models and a 19th (not 20th) century look on the employment market.
This, though? Yeah, that's completely ridiculous. This is the opposite: employers with a 19th century mindset, with droves of low-wage peons living and dying for the company with no security whatsoever. Y'know what happened around the turn of the century? The people revolted, and communism and socialism became things. Bad, bad ideas, folks.

Well, that's a step up from buying the politicians to repeal laws. I mean, now lawyers get another piece of the action.

I will officially warn you all: Scott Walker as your president will mean essentially this - and the only thing keeping us from returning to slavery will be the 13th Amendment.

And there will be legislation drafted by ACORN to repeal the 13th Amendment.

That nimrod doesn't stand a chance. I wouldn't worry too much about Walker getting any traction nationally. His history of shady followers would destroy him.

They said Clinton could never be elected, because of his laundry list of affairs and that shady Whitewater deal.

I disagree. I see him as a very strong candidate. He hits all the right buzzword points at the moment for rabid conservatives.

As to the main topic: Are people finally ready to agree with me that we're back in the age of the robber barons and that The New Deal has been systematically dismantled as to be completely gone?

Likes I said, the current crop of GOP/Tea Partiers would probably like to have this country go back to the 50's.

The 1850's.

The thing I always keep in mind, though is that the democratic presidents have been just as responsible for the state of things. Clinton lifted a crap ton of restrictions on the banks that helped pave the way for the housing crash.

American politics is fundamentally broken with the ability of corporations to simply buy and sell elections and candidates. With the powerful lobbying groups we have, there's just no way to disentangle the money from politics. We would need someone as bold as FDR who can push through major policy changes and campaign reform to even hope to fix things.

I still think it's being held, and not just by Dems. that whole investigation into Walker is insurance, you mark my words.

Which you'll probably never get again, unless "both sides" can unite against some sort of common foe. Anyone have Manhattan's number?

Seriously - the dual system itself along with modern day/social media have caused such an antagonistic world view for so many people - and no-one benefits from bettering this - that no-one's willing to listen to anything anyone has to say anymore. There's no way a president could get popular enough to push through such reforms these days.

For HOW this happens:

This video is the result of a conversation between Brady and CGP Grey on Hello Internet. For a 'two guys chat' podcast, it's great to listen to.

And yes, this is why I don't argue anymore.

2:30 to talk about all the advantages of working for Walmart.
Then 6:30 to talk about why you don't want to bring in a labor union.
I don't expect this to stay up.

I've seen this video, or at least one like it... it was one of many, MANY videos I had to watch when I was employed at Wal-Mart several years ago.
