[PC Game] Skyrim Modding thread

Ravenpoe wanted to know what mods I'm using. I just did a complete clean reinstall and I guess this is as good a time as any to go down the list. While I no longer use explicit sex mods, there are some mods in my list that incorporate nudity. Those are pretty obviously labeled as such though, so don't click their links if you don't want to see boobs :p

All these are for regular old Skyrim, not the Special Edition.

First, everything is SO much easier if you get Nexus Mod Manager. It will let you sort and keep track of your mods, as well as get them with one click on the nexus, which is where I'll be providing links for all my mods.
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/modmanager/?

Obviously you'll also need SKSE.
http://skse.silverlock.org/

And finally, get the replacement for BOSS, which is called LOOT (Load Order Optimization Tool). After you've installed all the mods you want, or any time you add a new one, run LOOT again and have it reorder your load order, then hit apply.
https://loot.github.io/

Now, on to the mods themselves, in alphabetical order:

A Matter of Time ui clock widget
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/44091/?
A handy UI element that will let you know what the time and date is in-game, in a pleasantly presented format.

A Quality World Map
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4929/?
SO much better than vanilla. Clearly shows roads, makes navigating much easier.

Acquisitive Soul Gems
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65975/?
Never trap a petty soul in a grand gem again! This mod will make sure soul gems only trap the largest type they can.

Alternative Start - Live Another Life
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9557/?
Dozens of different origins to start the game, prisoners, shipwrecks, wake up in a bar somewhere, etc - a must have if you're sick and tired of riding in that fucking cart at the start of the game.

Apachiiskyhair 1.6
(Also with the Female 1.5 and Male 1.2 addons)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10168/?
Required for many other mods, and plain old just looks better than the vanilla hairstyles. May.. not be the most immersion-friendly mod, though.

Ayane/Kasumi/Sophitia followers
(No longer available on the nexus)
Adds the aforementioned DOA/SoulCalibur characters into the game, to be found and recruited as followers.

Bathing Beauties/Beefcake Luxury Suite 5.1 (because 6.x breaks some of my other mods)
(Also the Apachii hair for suite residents 5.1 addon, The luxury player homes addon, and the SEQ files for BBLS5-1)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11427/?
Basically, I run a bath house, and it's full of beautiful women. It can serve both as an aesthetically pleasing home and it's got all the crafting stations and storage you could need, as well as a teleporter to any other vanilla home you own. Only downside is it's so script-heavy that sometimes my saves in it won't load back in successfully, and the crafting stuff is put where it's pretty, not where it's convenient. Also, you ever try living with a dozen women in a building with no walls? It's noisy. This is why I live in Thornrock, next door.

Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Edition 3.4f
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/2666/?
Heeere we go. That's the stuff. Redesigns the female body models to be curvaceous and.. ample. Also optionally removes the nevernude underwear so that naked means naked, or replaces them with less neolithic looking underwear.

Caliente's Vanilla Outfits for CBBE
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12273/?
Gotta have this one to go with it, it redesigns the vanilla armors to fit the CBBE female bodies. However, most of those textures will then immediately get overwritten by other mods still to come in this list.

CHSBHC - BBP Nude and Jiggly mod
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4888/?
Requires CBBE to run, but cranks the changes it makes up to 11, and also applies... physics... to the jiggly bits. If you didn't remove the nevernude underwear before, they're DEFINITELY gone now.

Cloaks of Skyrim
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12092/?
Cloaks for everybody! Can be found on NPCs, or thematically special ones will by lying around in special (but obvious) locations.

Draconic Bloodline Armor
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51401/?
Fancy Fantasy eye-candy armor.

EDialog
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19169/?
Configurable mod that makes friendly NPCs actually smile when you make eye contact with them, assuming another emotion isn't overriding it at the time (surprise, anger, etc).

Female Facial Animation
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/35303/?
Makes the facial animations of women in the game look less derpy.

Feminine Females
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/36286/?
The vanilla game actually specifically tells certain female NPCs (like most female Orcs and most female housecarls) to use male animations because it assumes that they'll be wearing heavy armor and thus will "walk like a man." This flips that switch back so that all female characters will use female animations.

Female running and walking animations 1.0
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50078/?
(also the optional Female Standing Idle 1.53 addon)
Changes the walking, running (and standing around) animations to something a bit more exaggeratedly feminine.

Fiona Armor for CBBE
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/6412/?
Adds the Fiona armor from Oblivion, requires CBBE, obviously.

Follower Commentary Overhaul
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52019/?
Makes your followers chitchat while nothing is going on, the degree to how chatty they get is configurable in-game.

Fores' New Idles in Skyrim (FNIS)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11811/?
If you are going to use any mods that add new animations or have alternate skeletons (which means body model replacement mods, usually), you're gonna have to get this one. You will have to run GenerateFNISforUsers.exe (which will incorporate into NMM's tools menu) every time you add or remove a mod that affects models or animations, otherwise the animations won't work (at best... at worst you'll instantly crash out of game).

Grass Field 2.0
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50875/?
Makes the ground look less shit by adding grass sprites to appropriate areas.

HDT Physics Extensions
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53996/?
Makes hair and stuff respond to wind/movement more realistically instead of just being like a helmet.

Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29249/?
What can I say, I'm a softy. At least when it comes to children starving on the street.

I Love Cleavage for CBBE
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29827/?
Replaces female vanilla armors with more skintastic versions.

Immersive Wenches
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51189/?
Adds tavern wenches to the bars that will sell food and drink.

Jordis and Iona face Overhaul
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25234/?
I actually only use the Jordis half of this mod, because this Iona looks too similar to my new Lydia, and I've got another Iona mod, later.

More Perk Points Per Level and Dragonsouls to Perk Points
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19381/?
Gives you 2 perk points per level up instead of 1, and allows you to cash in extra, unused dragon souls for more perk points. Because the vanilla 1/level is irritating.

Multiple Marriages and More
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9378/?
Because I want to marry Lydia AND Kasumi.

Music and Dancing in the Luxury Suite 1.2 (and the SEQ File for it)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18462/?
Gives the BBLS its own music playlist and enables residents/visitors to dance to said music.

New Iona
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/39929/?
Nothing fancy, just a new look for Iona.

Non-essential Children
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13202/?
Because while I may be a softy, Braith has gotta go.

R18Pn08 Lingerie Set for CBBE
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52168/?
Exactly what it says on the tin.

RaceCompatibility for Skyrim and Dawnguard
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/24168/?
Needed to fix some annoying crash bugs with mods and the Dawnguard dlc.

Realistic Ragdolls and Force
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/601/?
Improves the ragdolling of models, eliminates the "dead body kneeling" thing.

Seraphine Armor for CBBE
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/24723/?
Some nice leather armor for the wimminfolk

Sexy Lydia Retexture - LydiaModv1
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25091/?
Makes Lydia a gorgeous redhead instead of a dowdy brunette. Also removes her default hidden steel armor so that she'll always wear whatever you give her, even if it's cloth-based.

Sexy Swimsuits and Bikinis for CBBE
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11764/?
Exactly what it says on the tin.

ShowRaceMenu Precache killer
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33526/?
Also needed to avoid some crash bugs that arise when using new races or apachiihair

Skyfalls and Skymills
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40564/?
Animates distant waterfalls and windmills so that the LOD adjustments are less immersion-wrecking.

SkyUI
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3863/?
You know what this is. Once you've played with SkyUI, you can never go back to the vanilla UI. This is what the game should have used from the get go.

Smile in HD
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/34346/?
Improves the teeth textures of all the NPCs to look much better.

Smoking Hot Main Menu
(No longer available on the Nexus)
Adds raging flames to the backdrop of the main menu. No idea why this mod got pulled...

Soul Edge v2.2
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/20360/?
Adds the evil Soul Edge sword from Soulcalibur to the game, available both in 2h and 1h versions. Yes, the eye is animated.

Static Mesh Improvement Mod
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8655/?
YOU HAVE TO GET THIS. SKYRIM LOOKS SO SHIT WITHOUT IT.

Stones of Barenziah Quest Markers
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9385/?
Puts markers on the map for where the Stones of Barenziah are, otherwise you might never find that last goddamned one.

The New Aela
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31555/?
Changes how Aela looks. Don't worry, she's still a raging beeyotch.

Thornrock - A No-Frills Player House
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51980/?
A house for you to live in where function is king, accessibility is queen, and useless decoration is minimized. If you're using the Bathing Beauties Luxury Suite, make sure you download the applicable alternative version, because the default version spawns in the same place the BBLS does.

Tifa Cloth
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12673/?
Cloth "armor" that is based off Tifa's crop top/skirt/suspenders look from FF7.

Ultimate HD Fire Effects - Ultra Version (With Candle Flames addon)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/28642/?
Really really improves how fire and things-on-fire look in game.

Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71214/?
Don't mind us, just more unpaid player/modders fixing Bethesda's screwups.

Unread Books Glow
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10012/?
Books you haven't read yet will visibly glow in-game, so you don't have to spend an hour rooting through every bookshelf you come across.

Very Sexy Ebony Armor (with the optional boots addon)
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/7244/?
You've seen this in my screenshots. Only the best for my follower companions.

VioLens Killmove Mod
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56980/?
Lets you configure when and which killmoves are executed.

XP32 Maximum Skeleton
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26800/?
No, not the actual boney things you find in catacombs. This is needed by some of the other mods, it changes the invisible skeleton definitions of all the models around to support various mods and animations.

So there you have it, that's what I'm running right now.

What's the difference, exactly?

Skyrim Special Edition is 64 bit. SKSE64 isn't even complete yet, actually won't be for quite a while from the sound of it, so no mods that require script extensions will work in special edition. Even the non-script-based mods need SSE versions to work, apparently. Also, regular old Skyrim allegedly has better ENB support.

Really, for anyone even casually interested in modding, Skyrim Special Edition is vastly inferior to the old version right now.

And with the bloat of the creation club coming, this will probably remain true in the future.

I like using Immersive Armors and Immersive Weapons. Adds to the variety of gear available to me and to NPCs. I also use skimpy armor mods too, though, so what generally happens is that my Bathing Beauties followers and I will be dressed in stripperific outfits, while everyone else will be in vanilla or Immersive Armors gear.

Immersive Patrols adds wandering groups of Imperials, Stormcloaks, Thalmor, etc to the game world. Even better, if they encounter each other, they will behave exactly how you'd expect them to, eg Stormcloaks and Imperials will start fighting.

Dragon Soul Relinquishment allows you to trade your excess dragon souls for bonuses like perk points, attribute points, reduced shout recovery time, carry weight, etc. Quite useful for making supremely overpowered characters in the late game when you've got more dragon souls than you know what to do with.

Apocalypse Magic expands the repertoire of spells available to you. Admittedly some of them (most of them?) aren't very useful, but there are some really handy selections in there.

EDIT:
Forgot two of my favorite immersion mods. Frostfall makes cold weather a factor to consider in Skyrim's frigid climate. Spend too long out in the cold, and you'll start suffering. Spend even longer than that, and you'll die. Immersing yourself in water will make you suffer the effects of the cold even more rapidly, so think twice before dunking yourself into the chilly water off the shores of Winterhold. Realistic Needs and Diseases adds primary needs and illnesses. You will need to eat, drink, and sleep, and watch out for certain actions that may cause diseases (eg eating raw meat).

Hrm, pretty sure I screwed something up, since everyone at the college of winterhold has invisible bodies. Seems to be a problem with robes.

Might want to uninstall and reinstall any armor mod you have that affects vanilla mage robes. If that doesn't work, make sure they don't have dependencies, like requiring CBBE or Sevenbase body replacers.

Some more I'd forgotten I use (because I don't actually have Skyrim installed right now):

Deadly Dragons. Makes dragon encounters more varied and more challenging.

Run for your Lives and When Vampires Attack. Makes NPCs run for shelter during dragon attacks and vampire attacks, respectively, so that they don't get killed and don't get in your way when you're dealing with the threat.

The Paarthurnax Dilemma. Removes the choice of whether to side with the Blades and kill Paarthurnax, or spare Paarthurnax but lose the allegiance of the Blades. You're the motherlovin' Dragonborn, and you remind the Blades to respect your authoritah. This way you get the best of both worlds.

Glowing Ore Veins. Because playing "hunt the ore veins" is annoying.

Artifact Disenchanting. Allows you to disenchant unique or legendary items, thus learning their enchantment, and giving you the ability to apply it to other items too. As a bonus, it also lifts the restrictions on what enchantments can go on which items, which means (for example) now every wearable enchantment can be applied to any wearable item.
