New Orleans Indians

I've been watching Treme on Amazon Prime and there is a bunch of stuff about the Indians in there. For those that don't know the Indians are an African American tradition in New Orleans where "gangs" walk out in their costumes to engage in ritualized warfare. This is an old tradition. Dating back well over 100 years.

The costumes are simply incredible. Like nothing I have ever seen. Apparently people will spend upwards of 6 or more months making them. And they have to make a new one every year. The ritualized warfare is partly focused around the "Big Chiefs" of rival gangs showing off who has the prettiest costume.

Anyways, I always like seeing cosplay as one version of a much larger and deeper tradition of costumes, so I like to mention this stuff.

Also...man. They are just so damned pretty.
