[Brazelton] Kary Mullis

Mullis was the inventor of a molecular biology technique called polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It is a way to amplify (make several copies) a section of DNA. It is one of a handful of molecular techniques that was required to conduct the human genome project, and countless other molecular-based science.

Mullis said that he was on an acid trip when he came up with the idea. My biochemistry professor in college worked in the same lab as Mullis, and he wrote on this on the board when describing PCR: LSD + PhD = Nobel Prize.
