Minor victory thread

With the lack of significant venting it’s not a barbecue, so I’d still peg it as a smoker.

Of course you can use it however you like, but if you’re interested in low and slow cooking, perhaps with smoky flavor depending on your fuel, then this will do that.

It looks like it's missing the fire box on the right hand side. They probably intend for you to make a small fire on the bottom right next to the adjustable vent and place your meat on the rack as far from it as possible.

I assumed it has those two vents on either side of the bottom, but then either has vents on either side of the lid or else has a single vent on the "back" side of the lid that isn't shown in the picture. The thermometer is a giveaway that it's either for BBQ or smoking, since you wouldn't use one for grilling.

There's a whole series of 'em. Tiger escorting was hilariously more awesome - by several magnitudes - than the regular escort missions.
... I liked the hooker missions :/ Especially in co-op where one player had to drive and elude the cops/reporters and the other had to please the client.

I thought it was kind of a cop out that they switched it to calming a tiger later.

I didn't even notice it was a switch. I thought both were in the same game.

My Fitbit HR's band grew air bubbles over the past 2 days, so I contacted their support to see if they could send me a replacement band, since they're $12-20 on Amazon and the device has a 1-year warranty (it's only been 6 months).

Instead they offered to send me a new watch entirely, and that I could dispose of my current one once it arrives. Then I got an e-mail saying they didn't have my model in the same color/size, and that instead they'd send me a Charge 2. I'm not a fan of the bigger screen, but hey, free upgrade ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If they don't brick/blacklist the old device when I activate the new one, a friend of mine is getting the old one. She's been wanting a wearable for a while, but finances wouldn't allow it (it was a birthday gift idea).

The nice thing about the Charge 2 though is that the bands are swappable.

*Googles* Ah, I see, they're significantly easier to swap. You can change the HR's too as far as I know, it just requires extra steps/hassle with the 4 screws and such. That's nice, I suppose, though I wouldn't expect to be changing bands very often.

I actually bought a bundle of bands off of Amazon for my Charge 2, they're lighter and I like that I have a choice of colors to go with.

Bookmarked for when I have the new one, those are dang cheap--I only like 2/3 colors on all the sets, so I might cannibalize the 3rd one for the mounting parts and attempt to make a leather wristband as a fun project.

Ok, now that I've gotten past the initial hurdles (slightly bulkier than the HR, bigger screen that feels fragile, weight change, strap change), I like the Charge 2 better. I can see the battery charge without plugging it in (the HR just alerts you when it's near death), and there's a buuuunch of other tiny QOL changes that make it a better product. Kind of bullshit that they haven't backported those to the HR, since it all seems like very simple software tweaks, but eh.

I'll be ordering some cheapo straps in a few weeks once I get a feel for this one.

I’ve had this one for over a year, and I’m rather rough on things on my wrist. That’s one of the cheap bands I showed in the other post, I like that the band is lighter and the holes allow some air to help keep in drier.

We're about four-fifths of the way to clearing our insurance deductible, and still more than half the insurance cycle remains. I know it's money we'd have to pay either way, but once it's done it's going to make the rest of the year SOOO much easier medically.

Brofist for being in that "nice" area, until September when the fiscal year rolls over.

Phone bill is finally fixed.
That took way too long (4 months!).
But I finally got them to put me back on the more expensive plan so the discount would kick back in and actually put the bill lower than the cheaper alternative. Such dumb.

I've been asked to review another book for an academic publication/magazine. The first book I reviewed was more interesting than I expected, but pretty bland. This one, the second one, actually fits perfectly inro my research interests, is super well written, and is a book that, dammit, I would have written! But this is done so much better than I could have at this time. It's soooo good (so far, I just started it this morning). And I'm such a church nerd. It's going to be difficult to keep the review sounding professional, because all I'm going to want to write is - YOU! Go read this book! Do the things! But I can't do that. :(

Try to write your review from the point of view of explaining it to @Eriol . I'm sure that'll do it.
That may not work out so well. Her first attempt probably would be "YOU! Go read this book! Do the things!" to get me to read it, so she needs to go beyond that.

;)

Pretty much that.

It's about using technology, mainly social networks and forums and such, to help bring comfort and connection to people who are suffering and isolated. So the initial hurdle of 'no, technology isn't evil...' is less of an issue with Eriol than with other audiences.

I'm half-way through now, and it's still good. I'm through the obligatory 'technology is not inherently evil' bit, and the dusty and mandatory 'see, even Paul did this kind of thing!' bit, so I'm looking forward to the application and analysis pieces which (I think) are up next.

I had my first biologic treatment for my hives today. I’m disappointed that I’ll never be able to self inject like I do with my other treatments, but once the first few appointments are over, a half hour appointment once a month is a very small price to pay to get rid of my hives.

The treatment went well, the only issue was my super low blood pressure. I was worried that they weren’t going to do my treatment at first. When I’m at a new doctor or clinic they’re always concerned/surprised. I’m not sure what to tell them. It’s always that low. It was 95/56 which is higher than it was after my last pain procedure. They really freaked after my last pain procedure!

My doctor has actually told me to eat more salt which seems like terrible advice.

I'm done. Written and edited and submitted. And now I'm free to do whatever with the rest of my Cont. Ed. week until Tuesday! I forgot how much I enjoyed this stuff, and that I'm actually good at it.

Go to 2:13 in this one. Other stuff before that isn't related:

And just watch this whole one:

Salt is basically only bad for you if you are consuming MASSIVE amounts, or you're already sensitive to it. Consuming too LITTLE is even worse than consuming too much, regardless of if you already were sensitive.

So don't worry about consuming some salt. Your doctor appears to be well-informed (on that at least).
