Oh, and today's Abstruse Goose also goes along nicely into a political bent - just replace "left" and "right" with "democrat" and "republican."

Mr. Libertarian cow then decides to go off into a field, eats the grass and drinks the water that belongs to everyone, while simultaneously denying everyone else his meat and milk. THAT is the libertarian way!

Talk about flawed analogy. When was the last time you got food and drink that didn't cost money?

Mr quasisocialist grower who sells fodder to the libertarian cow and then gets cranky when he doesn't get free milk?

"Capitalism is man taking advantage of man. Socialism is vice versa." --??

It's actually a reference to a comment one of my relatives made at a holiday gathering, when he was complaining about Libertarians, without actually knowing what one was. I DO, however, think that most of the libertarian community is populated by rich, well to do right wingers who are more concerned with their quality of life than the quality of life in the community as a whole.

ORRRRRRRR...

They're people who want the freedom to live their lives with as little intrusion from the state as possible, and wish that same freedom for everyone. That would explain the pro-gay marriage stance and the strong Constitutional bent.

No. No. Every conservative and Libertarian is a racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobe. We just want to keep the poor down, so we can take all the money they don't have.

It sure doesn't help when you make excuses for the ones that are racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobes. If you're not part of the solution and speak against it...

Right, like that whole pro-gay marriage thing, AGAIN. I should also mention the goal of a color-blind society where individuals are judged by their merits and not their physical traits. Yeah, us libertarians are such bigots...

I wish I could take you seriously. Since you keep saying things like "us libertarians", I really can't. I'm speaking of people within the groups, not the groups themselves. When you can recognize I'm criticizing you for making excuses, not saying you or all you identify with are bigoted, come sit at the big kids table and we'll have a real discussion.

OK then, I personally abhor racism, sexism, homophobia, and all other "isms" and "phobias," and people who have those viewpoints are not ones I would ever want to associate with. Is that clear (and "big kids") enough for you?

By the same token, it offends me deeply to be lumped in with racists, homophobes, and the like because of a political viewpoint or disagreement with a differing political viewpoint. (Jimmy Carter, anyone?)

Yup, it's much better.

The only way to not be lumped in with them is by expressing that disagreement. I understand your feelings, I really do. I spent 6 years trying to explain that just because I'm American, that doesn't mean I am pro war.

yea, If you don't want to get lumped in with the racists don't disagree with Obama on anything. :eyeroll:

Thought about it, and let's clarify here.
Are you saying, that unless I say I am against "X thing or person" You will just assume I am racist since I am conservative?
Because that is what it sounds like.

Oh please.
How about instead of everyone lumping everyone else into a HORRIBLE and EVIL category (like RACIST!!!111) take a deep breath and ask a damn question or two, or better yet, don't ASSUME. Ask how those on the other side feel about stuff rather than just saying, "Whelp, you didn't say you were aginst it so you must be racist!"
I don't assume you want to see our troops get killed in Iraq just because you are against the war. What the hell is wrong with people. Do you want me to wear a sign saying "Here is what I do not agree with so that I can stop you from assuming I am a racist simply because I am of a differing political viewpoint?"
This is just getting stupid now if this is how we are going to deal with other people's viewpoints.[/QUOTE]
Again, did I say that?

See the above? It REALLY sounds like, yes, that is what you are saying. I figured maybe you wanted to clarify or re-write that, hence my edit.
You said: If you DO NOT want to be LUMPED IN with "THEM" then you must express disagreement.
Is that not what you said?

For the record, the reason I edited my post was because I really, and this is funny, didn't want to assume that is what you meant. It didn't sound like the "you" I know here. Thats why I asked for clarification instead.

Ok, I'll do an example to help out, ok?

10 people are at a bar. Maybe 3 of them are being rowdy and a general nuisance. They say awful, hateful things. The other 7 look a little uncomfortable, but don't say anything. Hell, even when someone comes over and says something to one of the uncomfortable ones, they stick up for their friend, saying they aren't really like that and they really aren't so bad. Another person brings it up, and the uncomfortable friends are now saying how the other three are just expressing their right to have a good time.

I'm not saying the other 7 are awful, hateful people, but the excuses they make for the other three certainly don't help change how they will be viewed by others. That is the situation I see here. I'm not saying all of the Republican party are racists, I'm saying there is an element of the party that has been allowed to run amok with hateful speech.

Why do all characters in american political cartoons have their name or description written on?
Of course, in some cases it's necessary, but it's used everywere!
