[Funny] NEVER FORGET... to make fun of tragedy (irreverent/offensive)

It's been a decade. If you want to remember reverently, consider the many 9/11 threads that have been posted over the last few years. Otherwise, post your face palming, stupid, funny, irreverent 9/11 related stuff here.

I'll get you started:

Seriously tho.... can the media and people please not remind me of this every single year?

YES I KNOW IT WAS HORRIBLE

YES I KNOW WE SHOULDN'T FORGET

That was fine for the first few years.... and 10 year anniversary.

We're now 11 years.... I don't want to be reminded every 15 minutes about this.

It's depressing.

One of my cousins used this day to remind everybody why Obama is evil. Apparently 9-11 wasn't the only thing Obama tweeted about today. How unamerican. Excuse me, I pulled a muscle rolling my eyes.

It is a good time for a reminder article or so... but it is not the only story of the day. Our news still reminds us of the attack on Pearl Harbor every year.

What does your cousin think of NBC and the Kardashians? Apparently NBC was the only network that didn't observe a moment of silence, and instead had some member of the Kardashian family yammering on about the show and her recent boob job.

Oh, make no mistake. He doesn't give a shit about the actual day. He just wants an excuse to slam the president. This was just so convenient for him.

I dunno. Still a pretty significant day. 3k dead in 24 hours. Is the catalyst for a war that is still going strong today. Kind of hard to say "ok it's been a decade we get it" when we're still fighting a war started by it.

That said there's a pretty hilarious picture somewhere explaining how the destruction of the tower that the Eye of Sauron was on was clearly a controlled demolition.

I'm actually surprised it's not a national holiday.
It's been brought up multiple times, but it's never made it to official federal holiday status, at least down here. It is, however, officially Patriot Day; as was approved by Pres. Bush on Sep 4, 2002.

I tried some basic google-fu to see when the last time was that a holiday was designated as an official federal holiday (meaning government employees have the day off), but my google-fu is weak today.

I could go on and on about this, but I'm pretty sure I'd just be preaching to the choir, so instead I'll just leave it with I'm sorry you have to deal with him.

Sorry, I'll never feel comfortable making jokes about 3,000+ deaths. The closest was mentioning a friend's idea for a game: 9/11 Jenga. And I still feel horrible bringing it up.

And (crossposted from my political thread) the vast majority of Afghanis have no idea what 9/11 was or how it pertains to the U.S. being in Afghanistan. When they are shown pictures and given explanations, many of them say "your building was knocked down? Many of our buildings are knocked down."

So am I. So am I. And I did my own share of reflecting today, but I guess I just feel that time goes on. We can honor those people in our hearts today and still carry on... but then I wasn't there. Who could blame someone who was directly affected for not wanting to laugh. I guess I see it both ways, and I'm somewhere in between.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm right there with you.

I assume that's where most people are-- understanding of the idea that "if we don't laugh, we'll cry," but understanding of the other side as well. :)

I'm some where in the middle. I'm tired of having to "Never Forget". However, I can't make fun of the day since a friend of my dad's worked at the Port Authority and died in the attacks. I also have family and friends who are fire fighters, EMTs, in law enforcement, and the military. Plus my life is directly affected by the ongoing conflicts thanks to my marriage.

I'm pretty much in a similar boat, Wasabi: I can't make fun of it myself, but I'm not going to just rail against anyone who wants to find humour in it. But I'm also tired of it being jammed down our throats every year when there have been much bigger tragedies around the world since. I wonder if we'll see the same kind of overblown reporting for Japan's tsunami?

Doubtful, since I think I barely saw a few mentions of the one year anniversary, and most of those were just because a local radio show gathered a butt-load of donations for the victims and air-lifted* them to Japan. Though, we do still see some pretty damn constant reminders of the Haitian earthquake, and how we still need to donate even more money, because even though they've already collected 80 bazillion dollars but haven't managed to rebuild a damn thing, donating even more money is obviously the answer.

I don't desire to upset people, but I do desire to explore *all* the conflicting feelings I feel about the event. There is humor to be found in tragedy, and tragedy to be found in humor. It's always been that way and will always be that way.

While I think there is an inappropriate time to discuss the humor of such a great tragedy, I don't believe it's good or healthy to extend that time period to forever. None of my children saw the towers fall, but I watched as they crumbled live on tv and I knew that at that moment people were being crushed to death. No, it's not a fun or funny event, but there are aspects about it that my brain makes funny connections for, and its silly to wall that part of me off.

If I suffer a great tragedy myself, I don't want to be the person that never laughs or talks about the object of tragedy again, and I don't want people walking on eggshells hoping they don't use a trigger word.

I know it's still fresh for many of you, so I had hoped that the thread was appropriately labelled with a warning. It's different for everyone, and I neither desire to chastise nor to be chastised.

9/11 gave pregnant 9/11 widows PTSD so bad that their kids, born later, were also clinically diagnosed with PTSD as well despite never having known their father and not having been born at the time of the disaster.

Never Forget that Osama Bin Laden Won on 9/11 and got exactly what he wanted to happen. He doesn't give a fuck that he was killed. He made America a shittier place and executed a great plan and effectively terrorized us. No matter how many weddings we blow up with predator drones or how many people we torture in Guantanamo Bay with no trial, the terrorists won. That's more tragic to me than 3,000 lives.
