Comic Book Resources is reporting that legendary artist Joe Kubert has passed. Sad to hear, the man truly was one of the greats, who never seemed to retire. He will be missed.

Being a former Army mechanic I was able to get copies of PS magazine every month featuring his illustrations. Good stuff, and really made me respect the man.

Man deserves it.

Comics Should be Good (subsection of CBR) has a tribute article that's worth a look, 25 Great Joe Kubert Covers. With a body of work like his you can't narrow things down to a list of the best, so it's simply 25 great.

One of the covers, very much the classic Kubert war cover:

I was such a huge Sgt. Rock fan. My favorite cover had Rock straddling the gun on a tiger tank, while mowing down the commander as he popped out of the hatch... Kubert was awesome.

Maaaaaaaan. This sucks.

True story: I was accepted to his school back in 1999. Sadly I couldn't get the financing I needed and my mom wasn't about to help pay for me to go to a "comic book drawing" school.

I love my life but I always wondered what things would have been like had I gone there...
