Minor victory thread

that just is kind of a lame / overdone joke, and it's essentially equating "messing with my childhood" to rape! Which reinforces rape culture in general
I'm sure all the women (or this specific woman in particular) are all like, "Rape is GOOOOOOOD!" Sorry, Charlie, but you're completely taking the back roads on this one to crazy town.

Actually, I think you are on the expressway.

Again, it's just subtly reinforcing rape culture.

You don't have to hang a black dude to do or say something slightly racist, or call someone a "f word" to be a little homophobic.[DOUBLEPOST=1343842132][/DOUBLEPOST]I would post a thread about the latest awful reddit / rape thing to discuss this further and stop ruining / derailing this thread but I don't have the energy after the gun thread to keep up with that

Charlie, please stop trying to be a gallant defender of the weak and helpless. You just come off as annoingly anal retentive.

Also, George Lucas has already proven himself a monster:

:troll:

Personally, boobs, but bothare awesome, and I suppose butts are more gender-neutral-enjoyable, so....the PC answer is butts?

Darn, I should've guessed it'd be "neither", shouldn't I?

Anyway, minor victory: I sent off a letter for a job interview. Man, that was way too long ago and took way too long.

speaking of boobs and butts (since women are only worth their parts that men like)

my date I think I mentioned from way back went really well! we're going to see each other again soon

Yup. Women love being told they're beautiful, especially in the parts where it counts. "Whoah, you've got a great rack" and "shake that ass, man you've got a big booty" are definitely winners*.

*prizes may include, but are not limited to, glasses of water thrown in the face, slaps, the sad feeling of defeat after a date gone wrong, being humiliated/insulted in return, and possibly charges.

One thing's for sure. There are people here who are committed to baiting him into saying more things they find annoying.

Haters gonna hate, that's for sure.

How DARE George Lucas change or add to something that he has creative control over?!

How DARE Charlie express a contrary opinion on a discussion forum!?

Yup. He's just trying to get us to watch what we say, because when we say we wanna kill someone for making a silly movie, that's kind of a ridiculous thing to say.

He's not the poster we deserve, but the poster we need right now.

It's not really hate, at least for me it's not. I don't hate CDS. I don't hate anyone on the forums, for that matter. The repetition is just annoying, in a sad, ultimately defeatist kind of way. Charlie Don't Surf if you really do stand for all of the causes that you're constantly championing around here, then I really honestly respect you for that. But constantly rubbing everyone else' faces in the fact that anything they say could be taken negatively, whether they mean it that way or not, isn't doing you or these causes one damn bit of good. It's like the boy who cried wolf, or some other cliche that I can't think of right now. Eventually everyone thinks they know what you're going to say so they either just ignore you or they bait you into arguing with them. Either way, the message either gets completely overlooked because you're the one who said it and everyone's just goading you for kicks and/or ignoring what you say, or it gets so watered down that it's meaningless. It's like finding a song you love to listen to, and then listening to it over and over again until you can't stand it, only it's worse because not only are you listening to it over and over and getting sick of this one song, you're doing it by standing right next to the speakers at the club and going deaf so you can't hear any messages at all anymore.
I'm sure if anyone here took the time, they could misconstrue and pull apart some of Charlie's non-reactionary posts in the same way he does to others.

Like that time he said he liked Spider-man, but he couldn't be bothered to include that he liked Spider-woman in the same post. Why? Because he prefers Spider-man to Spider-woman. That sexist monster.

Or that many of us have made the same type of comment before, but for some reason he decided to pick on a woman who made it. Sexist...

Oh, and just wondering how that reinforces rape culture? I'm honestly curious, since it's not excusing rape or making it sound good in any way.

This could be an interesting discussion, but might it be better done in its own thread in the politics, etc. area?

Maybe, which brings out the bigger question of why Charlie didn't bring this to her in PM's of it was that big of a problem. Why try to humiliate her instead of educate her? I'm not going to make a thread for him, since he already said he's too tired to defend it. If he's going to call some one out though, he better be willing to back it up. Especially when you say they're reinforcing rape culture.

I like Charlie, and I like his point of view. But if you're going to do something like this, you better be able to back it up.

Minor victory: I saw a troll recently, rolled my eyes at it and then walked away with not a single fuck given.

I learned a long time ago through my experiences of dealing with ethnicity and religious-based jokes that sometimes you just have to let things go. Yes, people will make Nazi jokes in front of me and think it's funny because I'm German. Guess what? I'm also Jewish, assholes. Oh, but I've heard plenty of penny-pinching jokes about that, too. For the love of all that's kosher, my name is Dill! Who can grow up with a name like that and not be thick-skinned? If I were to get upset at every comment that could be construed as offensive, then I would turn into an angry, bitter shrew. I’m a kind, loving person who enjoys nothing more than giving back to others. Young Dill went through her angry phase where she hated the world for all of the misfortunes she’d been forced to suffer. Scheisse passiert! I have a wonderful man who loves me, a good, stable job, two degrees, and friends who form an amazing support circle.

Have a lovely day, everyone! ;)

It reinforces rape culture by devaluing the horror of rape. Think about other things that get overused, like the word awesome. If you call every little thing awesome, then how do you express yourself when you come across something that truly is awe inspiring? I'd call it language decay, more than empowering some sort of perceived culture that thinks rape is ok, however.

tl:dr rape is awesome
