Video Game News and Miscellany

Microsoft Store: GFWL combined with iTunes, designed for tablets and phones, ported to my desktop. I can't wait.

I don't understand this fascination with touch screens. Office '13 includes a button to enlarge all icons to make them more easily clickable! Hint: if you need to simplify/enlarge your interface and crap up screen space, you're not making a step forward. I can't imagine replacing a mouse with a touch screen - useful for a tablet, not at all for a desktop. Get your frickin' huge icons and swipe stuff out of my desktop pc, dammit. It's not useful for office work, and if I wanted a game console, I'd buy a game console.

All in all, I'm not exactly excited for Win8. Lots of good things, but man are there some aspects I dislike about it.

Windows 8 looks like it's going to be a piece of crap for people who actually do work on their computers. I don't want all those stupid crappy apps all over my damn desktop... and I don't want to use a damn touchscreen! I like my dual 24 inch monitors with mouse and keyboard input!

I'm actually pretty interested in those Windows Surface tablets coming out in October. Laptop/tablet running full Photoshop with pressure sensitivity? Yes please.

A bit OT, but I thought it worth mentioning here. There's a Humble Music Bundle going on, and one of the albums is Best of the Valkyria Chronicles from Hitoshi Sakimoto. Figured some of you might be interested.

See, I can see Win8 working very well on a tablet. I don't mind them developping a new OS for tablets. It's silly trying to work a tablet with an OS that's not meant for that use. I just don't see why I should be forced (I know, I'm not) to use that on my desktop. I don't want Android running on my desktop, but they're not trying to sell it for that purpose. I don't want to play a game on my PC with menus the size of half my screen just so a console player can read them on his non-HD tv, it's the same thing. Right tool for the right job.

Dragon's Dogma was apparently a huge bomb for Capcom selling only 1 million units (well short of their predicted 1.5 and WAAAAY below their hopeful 10 million figures). Couldn't happen to a nicer company. Go fuck yourself Capcom.

My main gripe is refusing to release it on PC citing the nonsense "Pawn system wouldn't work on PC" bullshit as an excuse not to.

That news article is only talking about the Austin bioware studio. There are other Bioware studios, the main one I believe in Montreal.

If the founders are quitting, though... THAT COULD BE GREAT! Maybe they'll create a new company, away from EA, and get back to making the awesome games they used to.

Has the Bioware TUN been posted in this thread yet? The one that talks about "Tone at the top" and "We want to make games, therefore we need to make money" vs" We want to make money, therefore we need to make games?"

Edmonton. Not Montreal. Where I live, not where Jay lives.

Yeah, Ubi and Eidos both have studios in Montreal. The Eidos one made Deus Ex, they're good people. The Ubisoft one is Ubisoft and they're just as big of dickbags as Bioware has become.

In this one? No. In others, yep. I posted it.[DOUBLEPOST=1344259495][/DOUBLEPOST]

Montreal is the Capital of the dev gaming world. Many many companies are in Montreal, including a smaller one where my wife works at.

While Bioware's Montreal studio may not be the head one but at this point it is the biggest one they got.

In Canada.

San Francisco has like 6 times as many developers.

Actually, looking up game job hunter, Toronto has almost double as many developers as Montreal. Vancouver has quite a lot more too.
