Bring out Gifs!

Happy Birthday, GIF.

The very first GIF, or graphics interchange format, was created on June 15, 1987.
Intoduced by Compuserve, it was an easy way to transfer images in a compressed format over the incredibly slow modem connections that most of know and remember. Screeeeee brrr brrr screeeeeeeeee, just in case you forgot.

On this day 25 years ago, Alexander Trevor, former chief technical officer, and inventor Steve Wilwhite released the first animated GIF, which allows for compressed photos to be released on a time delay. Wilwhite also clears up the matter on how exactly GIF is pronounced.
“Choosy developers choose GIF,” said Wilwhite. Apparently, it really is pronounced like the peanut butter.

I will never pronounce it Jif. That makes no sense, if it stands for GRAPHICS interchange format, with a hard G, then as far as I'm concerned the hard G sound carries over.

Deal with it.

If you look closely, she's riding a horse. It took me a while to see.
