Minor victory thread

I really don't know what to call this, so it's here.

A former student of mine called me today, just to say thanks. Thanks for being supportive of him and being there when he needed someone just to be there for him.

He's a 19yo that just graduated high school, through a program for at-risk kids. I didn't get to see him walk the stage personally, but to know that he did is just a great thing. He's that kid that you just wanted to shake at times because you could see that he has the potential, but just couldn't get his act together enough because of all the BS that his own family had put him through. He was a kid that I have yelled at because he scared the crap out of me when he walked home from a church function and didn't tell anyone, and the kid that I would just sit and listen to him work stuff out for himself out loud and be the shoulder to unburden himself on. I cried for joy at work today because of him. For him. I really can't think of the words to use to say just how proud of him I am. He's just one of my kids.

I shouldn't call him a kid anymore. He's shown that he's finally become a young man today. One that I am very proud of.

Crap, I'm crying again. They are tears of joy.

So a pipe exploded in our boiler room at work today. Got to go home.

Cool.

Think I'll get a much needed haircut.
This is extra cool to me because I just rewatched Steamboy. So I'm picturing your office in a crumbled frozen ruin, and you're like, whatever bitches haircut time.

I'm not sure where to post this, but, it's going here.

I talked to Pez today! He's had a lot of tests done, he'll get the results later. But things are looking like they're going down the right path. Doctors are figuring out ways to get his pain level at a much more manageable state! (Which is why this is in the 'Victory' thread...Him feeling better at all, I think, is a victory.)

He seemed in good spirits and it was so nice to talk to him. He says hello to everyone! :)

Dave, he wanted me to tag you to make sure that you knew he was doing alright.

Many, many thanks! I was worried about the big lug. I hope that he gets better no matter how long it takes. His health > anything here.

Do you have an address or anything for him, so we could send him something?

AshburnerX, I'll double check and make sure it's okay - I know they're kind of strict where he is. I'll find out today though and let you know! (By the way, he says he misses watching Sat. morning cartoons and tweeting them with you.)

When I find out more news, I'll be sure to let you guys know whats going on. :)

My cousin is here and it is fun to have her.

I am also enjoying watching Cartoon network. Not because of the shows but because of the commercials. I love commercials for kids. Hehe.

This weekend my work was throwing a giant LAN party for charity. I was too late to get a spot with the PC section but they had a pretty sweet console game section set up (which is fine with me since I am more of a console gamer anyways). Anyways they had a retro game tournament where they had 5 old school games and the top 3 high scores at the end of the day for each game would get a chance to try and get the highest score on a mystery game. I ended up getting two high score slots ( one of them was actually a fairly awful score and I was surprised it made the top 3) I guess not a ton of people played that particular game. So anyways they pull out the mystery game and it is "Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball" for the SNES. None of us there could recall ever playing this game before so we were all going in blind. The contest was to see who could get the most point sin the Home Run derby portion. Well long story short I ended up getting the high score and winning the tournament and receiving a t-shirt and a 16GB flash drive!

So woo hoo for luck!

Sounds like the competition was pretty hairy. Congrats on the win!

I shall blame that mistake on my only getting 1 hour of sleep last night.

The sad part is that I actually noticed that mistake and went back to fix it before I originally posted it but I must have re-typed it in wrong.

I really like having my cousin here. Today we made maki rolls. They didn't turn out perfectly because we didn't have the right nor. However they were still delicious and it was fun to make. I also enjoyed seeing MIB3 yesterday. It's nice having someone else around.

Making sushi is a lot of fun. My roommate has a sushi knife and we've made it here. We've also done okonomiyaki (which was difficult, but delicious) and takoyaki (had to get a special little grill for that). When I get home I might invest in a decent knife and give it a try.

Yeah I don't have a good knife. I was talking to my cousin about how important that is but I don't think she got it until we tried to cut them. It's just a pain. Someday I'll invest in a good one.

Yeah we tried it with a regular kitchen knife first and it ruins the fish, really. I mean, it's edible but the meat falls apart when you slice and such.

Mmmmm, home in the middle of the day playing Skyrim... Warm, happy feelings in my belly. I can't believe I'm playing a video game at 2 in the afternoon! Screw you, errands and sunshine!

I... I just got done playing. Do potty breaks count as exercise? No, in all seriousness, I got up to go for a jog, but jeebus. It's just so damn good! Worth the wait!

Cloud City to follow.

Also, why yes, I AM trying to bring some levity to the doomfortress my friend is building. He thinks it's hilarious.
