Ugh, don't let me get started on my first girlfriend. Whenever she was over for the night, you could be damn sure there was some mess to be cleaned up in the morning. She had this fucked-up idea about eating that it was healthy to go without food for two or three days, and then eat like a starving locust. Which often happened at my place, and at the dead of night. If I had cooked up a batch of spaghetti or risotto that I thought would last me two to three days, at least half of it would be gone by morning, with unwashed dishes and dropped food all over the kitchen. If I had some soup in the freezer, the empty cans and the unwashed dishes would be waiting for me at the kitchen table in the morning. And then there was the time when she woke me up at 3am and asked me to cook the pound-and-a-half of marinated chicken slices for her.

Where do I find these women...?

"I don't have a TV" (usually dripping with an air of unwarranted superiority)
"That's too bad, XXXX is a pretty good show."
"Oh I know. I Netflixed/torrented/etc it."
"Soooooooo... you have a TV."
"Nope. I watch it on my computer." (same air of unwarranted superiority)
"Let me get this straight. You have a box that displays to you moving pictures distributed by various affiliations."
"Yes. My computer." (smug)
"So you have a TV."

Nope.
Computer = watch what you want, when you want, without (you) having to record shit.
TV = watch what you want (if you can), when they want you to watch it, unless you were able to record it.

You also get to avoid commercials with less hassle (usually).

(edit) And I misread part of that. Yes, computer = tv capabilities, but I'd disagree that it's a TV (though I would point out that their smug condescension was misplaced since a computer usually sucks up far more time than a TV, despite being obviously more interactive).

Thor you! Thor your mother, Thor your father! Thor you right up your Thoring ass!
You don't know what the perkele you are talking. Also, you are using it perkeleen wrong, you perkeleen numbskull. You tried to be a cunning little perkele, didn't you? Perkele, I hate people trying that.

But... the TV capabilities were the point. Their smug condescension was related to the fact that TV is somehow beneath them. My point was that they're still watching the same thing. I don't care if you get to choose when or where or whether there are commercials.

SeraRelm

No, I get it, and when I reread what you posted, I fixed it. You even quoted the fixed part where I said their condescension was misplaced, though your insistence on a computer being a TV is still wrong.

I think it's semantics. There's a difference between "having a TV" and "having TV" or "watching a TV" and "watching TV"

TV means both the actual physical electric box that displays the images, and the service that sends them. Whether you are watching TV shows on a TV or on your computer ,you are still "watching TV", and you still "have TV", even if you don't "have a TV".

S

SeraRelm

And the argument for the smug person "having a TV" wasn't trying to rely on semantics?

Let's just agree that people being smug over not owning an electronic device is just silly.

I understand that you fixed it, but I disagree. It is a TV in as far as we both meant it in that argument. I know he didn't have a physical one. That was both our points. My point was, well, yeah, you do, because you have something that fills all the requirements, physical and conceptual. You're right--it's a semantic concept, but it was a semantics that he was using to try to guile me.

We can disagree on the extent to which one might describe various things, that's fine. I'm sure you meant his monitor though.:troll:

Good morning! I'm now here and I have something to say.

To NR: You let Mathias get to you way too easily sometimes. I do not believe this was one of those times. We had the situation diffused sufficiently and Mathias came in guns ablazing and escalated it again with smart-ass comments and trolling. I thought it was initially a 24 hour ban moved to a week when Mathias posted as a guest but it turns out that it started as a week and NR did not make it a month when the ban was circumvented - not exactly the action of someone who was flying off the handle with a power trip.

To Mathias: How can someone so smart be so fucking stupid? You can claim ignorance all you want, but you knew exactly what you were doing and what was going to happen. Does NR take his position seriously? You damned right. I'd expect nothing less. I've always said this is not my board but all of ours. The only problem with that is it gives some people the idea that they can act in any damn fool way they want to and can hide behind the monikers of "joking" or "I had a bad day". If this were an isolated incident I'd be more willing to let it slide but it's been something that is systemic with you and the fact that you then ask for an apology from someone for doing their job is laughable.

To everyone: Mathias posted the PM that we had been having. Great. Wonder why he didn't post the very next post in the PM?

So here it is. Here is my thought. Mathias, you are not banned. I'm giving you the chance to make it right. You have 2 choices:

  1. Apologize to NR and the community - especially those like LittleSin. You have this way of taking the slightest thing and going from 0 to asshole in 0.3 seconds. There's no middle ground with you.
  2. Permaban
I'm sick of it. I'm sick of standing up for you and being constantly disappointed. I like you, Mathias. I really do. I think you're a good dude, a great husband and father and whip-smart. But when it comes to a forum you are less than spectacular. You're a really, really smart person and it kills me to see you acting like this sometimes. My message to Null stands:

You can just read how much I do respect you as a person. As a poster? Not so much.

So state your case. Make us understand why we should keep you around. Everyone can now weigh in.

sorry for party rockin

I am leaving in a bit for rehearsal. When I come back I'll make my final decision. It'll be in about 2 hours.

I'm still unsure of why I'm being forced to apologize here. Over what exactly? A couple of smilies in a PM that I got a bullshit ban for? For snapping at Littlesin over her initial snide post? I'm pretty sure all I did was post the PM conversation and make light of all the stupidity by posting Simpsons images with Juski; and no, Dave, it wasn't a matter of editing your part out. It was a matter of keeping Null's PM information in the PM. The entire thing I posted was completely in context. Yes, I came in guns blazing. NR came out of nowhere and tried to moderate a damn PM. It was so stupid that I poked fun at him for it. As a result -ban. And now this. This is so stupid that it's almost beyond my comprehension. So you want me to apologize? Fine. I'm sorry. If that's not good enough, then permaban me. I don't care either way but I'm not going to degrade myself with begging, and if permabans over bullshit like this is the way this place is going then I'd rather just leave myself. I'm not going to fucking grovel for forgiveness.

Dave - All I have to say is that you've already been more generous and forgiving than I would have been the same situation.
Of course. You don't like me from the get-go, so you'd do what NR did. All this bullshit about playing by the rules, but the fact is I really don't get out of line unless someone starts it up first. It seems to me, more often than not, I don't get the pass - I get the shit fits. Funny thing, how before everyone knew this handle was Chazwozel, it was in one ear and out the other for the most part.

I apologize for being snide. It was wrong of me and done out of frustration of seeing more of this shit.

However, you cut deep with your comment. You could have called me fat or dumb or a failed artist or anything else...but the moment you bring my parenting or my son into it I get uptight, as it is my deepest insecurity. It wasn't easy to shrug off, especially from you seeing as you were someone I previously defended when you came up in conversation.

So, I deserved to be called out for being a bitch in my post...but I didn't deserve that.

Edited: For saying "could of" nstead of "could have". *shudder*

Sorry too...

I do genuinely respect you, so I am sorry.

Now it's time to rock da beat.

If I may a moment:

Mathias, I don't know you well enough (as either Chaz/Math) to really have an opinion on whether you should stay or go. I will say I have seen that you have a tendency to be the guy who, after being told you are not allowed to pull the chain, has to go and pull that chain one more time WHILE making sure that everyone sees you doing it. I'm sure this indicates you have some kind of deep-seated problem with authority or some junk like that, or maybe you always feel you have to have the last word. I dunno. I'm no Psycho-tech, so take that for what it's worth.

I don't think we need to be rid of you, but you do appear to have backed yourself into a corner here. The ball's in your court. Forget about apologizing for the moment. I see your next posts as needing to reinforce the idea that your presence here on the boards will not generate/result in endless run-on of conflict. I see Dave's ultimatum as more of a test than a requirement. So which will it be? This is not a challenge, it is an independent request to seriously consider your situation. Want to stay? Swallow it, kiss, and make up. On the other hand, if you see an apology as nothing but an apparent display of weakness, well, that's your choice, too...and it gives others an insight into your values. And that is what I see as the test.

--Patrick

Thing is Pat, I don't feel like I need to be tested to be allowed to post on an internet forum. I understand what Dave is shooting for, but to expect me to go full out thesis on "what makes me a valuable poster" is a little ridiculous and degrading. For my apology, see above. I'm not going above and beyond that.

And no, I don't have a problem with authority. I have a problem when someone douches it up with an illusion of some kind of actual authority (which generally falls under the curtain of a lot of forum admins).

Now. Attach the Stone of Shame.

Actually, I did like you before douchebaggery became a regular part of your persona here. Now I don't particularly care for your antics though I do believe you are probably a good guy in real life. And you are wrong to say I would have done the same thing as NR. I would have permabanned you a few years ago if it was within my power (which I why I never jumped on being a mod here since I know I have little patience for bullshit). In my opinion, you've consistantly taken advantage of Dave giving you the benefit of the doubt for years now. There has to be a point where enough is enough. Dave is a kind and patient person. But I think even he has his limit.
