[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

The best part of this whole thing is that the impossibly hard to find trap is depicted as a giant hole in the stone floor, covered with slabs of wood.

Decided to go to the site, just to see how bad the punchlines really are.
This is what I see being advertised for one of his main characters:

First there was Neck Beard. Now there is Neck Cleavage!

For when you want the trendy look of a high-necked black tee, but you are female so you MUST show boobcrack or risk being androgynous!

I do, however, think it is humorous and accurate that the DM chose to point out the EQUIPMENT was dissolved... "and your body." Priorities of the RPG player, after all.

Kurtz isn't just using a tired gag punchline, he's literally recycling/plagiarizing himself. I recall the exact lines, "You said there were no traps" and "I said you detect no traps" being spoken by Francis and Brent, when Brent was DMing.
This. Oh so much this. And that strip was hella funnier than these two strips combined. First, he didn't try and stretch one joke to cover two strips, and second, we got to see the action without the need to explain what was going on. Sometimes I can't help but wonder if the real Kurtz got replaced by a doppelganger at some point...

I tried finding the strip but after about half an hour of trying to comb through the archives I just quit. The search function didn't help either, as it apparently only covers the very newest stuff.

"Nothing is as real as when you remember it."

Since we're all past-tense, all that's left of our former HalfPixel Selves is a memory.

OK, so I was looking through the archives a bit as well, and I came across this comic:

Now, first of all, this is 1998 and we can see Brent's eyes. Which means the whole "thing" he made out of us never seeing his eyes? BS. Oh well. Secondly: Brent here, besides not having a mouth, reminds me of the :Leyla: face.

There was also like a whole week wherein Jade and Brent went to a Halloween party dressed as each other which meant JADE was wearing Brent's glasses and Brent was not.

I think the example we used most often for seeing Brent's eyes before was that strip where he woke up from dreaming about Jade. Very very early in the PvP continuity. Before they were officially together.

See, the problem with this discussion is it assumes that Kurtz is capable of remembering his own continuity, which has proven untrue more times than can be counted.

Because no comic strip has ever jettisoned/retconed characters or concepts from its earliest days except for PvP. Lyman still owns Odie, Barney Google is still the main character of Barney Google and Snuffy Smith, and The Phantom's homeland is in still in Asia.

Or like... anything made by Blizzard. ;)

Now now, Blizzard Sonys stuff, then changes established cannon on a regular basis. So yes, but admit to the theft first.

I can appreciate how difficult it might get to be one guy trying to keep track of what, 13 years of comics? Maybe he should consider going bigger and hiring on a small team to help him out with archiving and stuff?

Every comic jettisons ideas/retcons characters. Kurtz has, in the past, forgotten that Max couldn't see Skull and that everyone thinks Scratch is a normal cat.

His mistakes have been akin to forgetting that no one knows that Zorro is Don Diego de la Vega by having a kid come up and ask him for an autograph, then never mention that lapse again.

That said... yeah, the Brent/Sunglasses thing isn't a big deal.

And Zorro is really just another layer of control implemented by the machines.
