One of my local news companies (King 5) really needs to learn how to manage their website better, especially when it comes to ad services. Their website frequently - not just occasionally, but frequently - lags to the point that Chrome declares it a non-working site address and that Firefox loads just the background colors and the top of the page and nothing else; and every time it happens, the status message at the bottom of the screen says "waiting for ads.blahblahblah."

You know something? Comic book pencilers have NO idea how to draw a realistic street thug. They always look like some reject from a Broadway show or a blaxpoitation film from the 70s. Always with the head bands and the Leifield hair-made-of-pointy-worms.

Raisin bran apparently gives me hellacious gas now... on a related note, I apparently need to crack the windows in my car whenever I leave it parked for a little while. I about knocked myself out a minute ago...

Are you sure it's not the milk in the cereal? It took me years to figure out that I had attained Adult Onset Lactose Intolerance. I kept attributing it to alot of different things except the milk/cheese in everything I was eating.

If you want the most disgusting burps ever to wither plants, eat a few bowls of honey nut cheerios in milk, then drink a can of diet coke.

I was once on the receiving end of my friend's belch that was powered by a Carl's Jr. double western bacon cheeseburger and crisscut fries with ranch dressing. My body proceeded to try to suffocate itself to death in order to not have to suffer the stench that it was enduring.

I'm putting this here instead of Media Madness, because I confess I haven't seen enough to know the whole story.

I know I'm going to get a massive number of disagrees for this, but I have to say it. I tried Game of Thrones. I tried several episodes in fact. It's like... Days of our Lives for dudes. My wife, who differs vastly from me in terms of tv taste basically said the same thing. In fact, she also used the word "soap opera".

My friend and I are both big fans of it, but even so when we try to convert people on to it, we can't help but use the phrase "Soap Opera for guys".

I like the show as a "companion" to the books. I don't think it stands that well on its own.

I can kinda see where you come from to get that opinion. In soap operas, you see the viewpoints of many different characters, it is arguable that there's no heroes, or that everyone is a villain to some degree, the focus is on the personal interaction of an ensemble cast as opposed to a single protagonist, and they have a focus on plot twists and dramatic revelations.

The thing is, that also goes for a lot of contemporary drama. I think there's more to codifying a soap opera than just those things... what really makes a soap opera also includes certain kinds of cinematography (lots of slightly-off-angled facial close-ups with blurry backgrounds), overacting/overwrought situations, cliche plot twists (AMNESIA!), possibly even distinctive audio cues.

Once again this week we were treated to the moments before and immediately after a battle without showing the battle. Color me irritated. I'd have thought they would have gotten more of a budget by now.

I'm ok with it as long as battle of the blackwater isn't skimmed over.

Someone posted a Helen Keller quote on Facebook. "Life is an adventure, or nothing" is what it said, but I read it as "HRRRRRRRRNRRRRRRRDEEEEEEEEMUUUUUUUUHRRRRRRRRRRR"

We've never actually met or spoken, I just know we're related (albeit not all that distantly, he's only like a second cousin). He's English as fuck.

Oh! Damn. I thought you meant like first cousin. Once I get to second cousins I just start calling them 'relations' or something.

Febreeze does not cover up cigarette smoke but will cover you for hours if you walk through the mist of said canister trying to get out of the back room you weren't supposed to smoke in to begin with.

Also I doubt New Zealand smells like this Febreeze says it does.
