Like all memes, I think they started out pretty funny, and then they got run into the ground and beaten. And then people somehow failed to even grasp the actual premise of the joke, and yet continued to make them anyway.

It's brain damage caused by law school. See, the human brain cannot function through law, and vice versa. So law school is a process of selective brain damage in order to understand and function in legal matters. Naturally, other functions are impaired. My dislike for apostrophes and commas definitely predates law school. That's why I had robin edit my papers. Those things are high on my don't give a shit list.
