[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

Apparently I did not completely recover from my flu yesterday... still incredibly weak, shaky, nauseous, and feverish. God, I hate the flu.

Over the past few days I've developed a symptom of a potentially serious health problem.
Do what you can, it's OK to feel a little depressed, but don't crack open that fifth of Ol' Glumberry until after you get a confirmed diagnosis. Wasting energy and productivity by stressing and staring at the wall won't do you any good.

So yeah... I just had to 'charm' my way out of a 'no seatbelt' ticket a few minutes ago. I'm surprised I didn't choke on the words and my inner feelings didn't betray my facial actions...... uuuugggghhhh.

I used to love when people would try that shit because it was always just a little satisfying when the bullshit instantly disappeared and the indignant rage replaced it.

Except it did work, as it has with at least an 80% success rate (I'm not so vain as to claim 99%-100%). As for "rage" to replace it when I actually got a ticket? More like apathy like "Meh, whatever".

So flirting with the policeman did get you off.

The hook.

I wouldn't call it 'flirting' as I didn't exactly 'come on' to him or anything like that.... but I was much more cheerful and 'approchable' than I would have normally been.

It's raining for the first time in weeks. So naturally the sunroof decides it's going to stop working, leaving just enough of an opening to let water trickle in.

I got stopped for speeding a few weeks ago. I totally was too damn this stupid town and the random places the speed limit goes down to 25, damn it to hell!

The officer was very nice to me and didn't even make a big deal out of me not having my insurance card.

oh is he ok? that's crappy.
I don't know yet. I hope so. Not for any kind of amity, but because he's probably the only other person here besides me who if they got hit by a bus (or, say, slipped in the parking lot and bashed his head open on a rock), that this company would absolutely disintegrate due to the absence.

Oh Gas... we all know you just play Supreme Commander all day at work... ;)
A few things:
1) I just put in two 77 hour weeks in march where you guys didn't see me.
2) Work compy can't play supreme commander. It could BARELY handle minecraft for about 5 mins before crashing.
3) Yeah, ok. Previously (and hopefully again soon) a lot of what I do is loaf around in here making fun of you guys. But the reason I can do that and still have a job here after all these years? There's shit I know how to do that nobody else knows how to do, or even wants to learn how to do, that this company cannot function without. They could probably find someone, but they'd need him in a hurry and would have to probably pay more than double what they pay me to get him to not sleep for the first 2 weeks so he can learn the ropes fast enough to save the company.

The amount of stupid that I've encountered so far today is starting to pile up. I'm running out of ways to tell people that we really really, honestly truly, really do need them to provide some piece of legally recognizable documentation that proves that they really are related in some way to the person about whom they're inquiring, besides the fact that they have the same last name. Also, a handwritten letter, written by you, above your own signature, that declares that you're the executor of the estate - not an acceptable form of legal documentation of such a claim, unless - you know - it's backed up by some actual legal docs. If that was all it took, I could just send off a letter declaring that I'm the executor of Pres. Kennedy's estate and that any remaining property is to be turned over to me. And seriously, if you've read the list of documentation that I require, and you send me an email saying "I've read the list of documentation that you require, and I can't provide any of it, but I want you to do this anyway, immediately," expect to be disappointed by my response.

I really need to learn to button my lip about subjects I know are someone else's hot-button. It doesn't do any good to make a reasoned argument if you know that they'll completely misread what you're saying (albeit with the best of intentions). I shot my mouth off anyway, was misunderstood in exactly the way I expected, despite being as clear as I know how to be in stating directly to the contrary, and then stupidly went on to continue the argument, even though I know that will only compound the misunderstanding.

Damn, this is why I mostly gave up debating on the Christian forum I used to frequent. Sometimes it's all too easy to know exactly what points are going to be misunderstood, and all too difficult to fix that misunderstanding. All the while I get way too keyed-up and nervous, and it's a lot worse when I respect the person I'm arguing with.

Shame you're not closer. As much as I enjoy my current job (and I do*), I probably ought to switch to a job that pays enough to eliminate the debts rather than just keep them at bay.

*It's sort of the reverse of Shego's situation. Love current job, doesn't pay enough.

it's far more likely they'd let the company go under than pay someone more than me to do my position :p I'm underpaid myself by about 20% by national averages. I had to bring that to their attention at the one and only "annual review" I've ever gotten, which I had to badger for months to get, and they couldn't come up with anything of substance to gripe at me about (not even "you surf too much")... and I STILL had to turn in my 2 weeks to get the only raise they've given me, which was 6%.

Yeah, they hate letting go of that money, money money. But the trade perks are nice, I guess.

So, quick update:

I just got back from the doctor after my health scare. The doctor thinks that, while I did present a very distinct symptom, there's nothing to be concerned about. I should be okay, provided things don't get worse or I don't develop any other symptoms. I'm getting a simple blood test done to be sure (that sound you hear is my bank account weeping) but he doesn't expect any problems.

Now I can relax a little.

All the same, this has led me to realize that I wouldn't have been so concerned in the first place if I took better care of my health. I consider this a warning that I need to get my act together.

Last night I was taking a look at my student loan summary and I felt like I got kicked in the gut. Over 100,000 dollars in debt.I knew it would be that, but seeing it all laid out for me. It makes me feel like all this work has been for nothing.

It's just sickening.

I hate how so many feminist statements have an undercurrent of misandry. "Men can't be trusted", "Men can't understand", "Men are the enemy". Dammit, you don't build one group up by tearing another down. Insulting others is not a good way to feel better about yourself. It does not improve women to treat men poorly, and it certainly doesn't improve relations between the sexes.

I hear you. I'm all for "Women can do anything men can do" feminism. I'm less than enthused about the "all men are rapists" variety.
