Man, I'm so sorry guys, it's never easy being in the process of losing a loved one or actually losing them. You have my condolences. This month is the anniversary of my Dad's death and it's always a somber time for me. Some years it's worse than others but for some reason this years anniversary is feeling harder and more emotional already.

He's gone. 15 minutes ago. My sister and I were holding his hands and he took a last breath and slipped away. I'll write more later but for now I just wanted you all to know the vigil is done.

Dave, you have my most sincere and heartfelt condolences. I'm glad that you were there for him, as he was for you all those years.

Thanks guys. Being able to post here has been pretty instrumental in my handling of all this. You've all been very supportive and a really good lifeline for me.

It sucks but I'll be okay and he's no longer in any pain. Expect a bloggy-type post in the near future. :D

Geez, maybe it is the Mayan apocalypse. Now my grandmother died this weekend. I am trying to be upset about it, but a) I barely knew her despite the fact that she lived about 10 miles from me growing up b) she openly preferred our cousins (yeah the family Christmas parties were we got socks--mine were pink by the way--and they got stereos was kind of a clue), and c) it's been a long time coming.

Actually scratch that. I shouldn't speak ill of her. She was always nice to us, other than those things.

No, I'm not searching, I'll be working with the guys in Major Crimes going out to the location of the shootings tonight. And I will.

Stupid crimes during stupid days off.

This isn't a rant, but it's sad so I'll post it here.

I miss my older sister. She died about 3½ years ago, and it usually doesn't hit me this hard, but recently two amazing young women have reminded me of her, and it's made me think of how Marie made the world a better place, and how much I miss her. So, even though I'm crying, I want to thank Jill and Nina for reminding me of my wonderful sister, each in their own way.

I'm getting screwed by Enterprise. My car was hit a few weeks back, and other guy's insurance paid for a rental car. Yesterday, I get a letter saying there was damage to the rental car, and that I'm responsible. I will go through any lie detector test or torture necessary to show that I in no way hit anything or was hit by anyone while I had that car. I dropped the car at the body shop as instructed. My theory is that it got hit at the body shop. Enterprise doesn't care. According to the contract I signed, it doesn't matter who, how, or why, if the vehicle is damaged outside of the custody of an agent, it's my responsibility. This is crap. I don't want to pay these damage. It wasn't my fault, and I don't feel like I should have to pay for it.

Did they not sign a release when you turned the car over to them? Whenever I've rented a car they walk it over and sign off before I leave - and that includes Enterprise.

Nope. The body shop told me to leave it there. That was one of my biggest arguments. They told me I could take it up with the body shop.

My aunt passed away this morning. I found out when I checked Facebook when I got up this afternoon (tonight's a work night, so I sleep in). My mom, sister, and I haven't been all that close to my dad's side of the family in years, but my sister has maintained a reasonable amount of contact with them.

Hell of a way to find out. Sorry, man.
I checked Facebook just after getting up, before checking phone or talking to anyone face to face.

It was sudden, but not all that sudden. my aunt smoked for years, so was not in particularly good health. My cousin had spoken with her as recently as the weekend, so without knowing details, whatever happened was only within the last 24 hours or so.
