The New NHL thread

The old thread got locked so I thought I'd restart the hockey discussion.

Canucks had a phenomenal December and are as deep a team as I have ever seen them be.

If they continue to play like they have been they could be first in the conference if not the league.

I don't mean to gloat when I ask:

How is everyone feeling about their chosen team at this point in the season?

We're doing a lot better than last year, but really need to step things up soon if we want to make the playoffs. Also Jeff Skinner makes every game worth watching.

Sens fan.

So...yeah.
...looks at standings...

:(

If it's any consolation the leafs are still doing worse than them.
Sens have a guy from my hometown playing on their farm team right now. I might follow them a little more closely if and when he cracks the lineup.

Canucks, lol.

Lou will do exactly what he did in the Olympics and become a sieve, thus throwing away any chance the Canucks have of coming anywhere near a cup.

The scary thing about the Canucks is that their back up goalie is better than their starter, thus giving the rest of the team absolute confidence in the back end.

As for the Leafs, I really just want to bury every single reporter that reports about them in a fire ant hill. It's hard enough to field a skilled team that can compete without having to compete with the media's garbage every day.

Yeah Schneider has been playing great for the Canucks. As a fan it's nice to not have to worry about who's playing net on a given night.

As for the media I think you'll find that they are fit to be eaten alive by insects in any Canadian NHL city. Best to ignore them and enjoy watching your team.

Yes, but the press in Toronto is far and above the worst in the league to the point where they can affect the play of the players.

WTF Boston? How did you lose tonight?

I don't really have too much exposure to the Toronto media environment. Who are they psyching out and how are they doing it?

Well this week saw a blockbuster trade between New Jersey and Dallas. Not a friggin peep on any of the TO media outlets about it. What did they talk about at the start of the week? That Versteeg and Beachemin are soon to be traded, nay they must be traded. Both players have a decent start of the week and they stop talking about them, so they move on to trading Gustavson because Reimer has played ok in the whole two games he has ever played in the NHL. Two games! Then after the shellacking the Leafs gave to Atlantic on Friday, they immediately ask about trading Grabovski, because they figure since he is on a fantastic run right now, they might never get a better offer for him. Seriously, who else would suggest that the reward for success is to be traded? Imagine if the Vancouver press suggested trading Luongo after he won the gold medal or Henrik Sedin after he won the scoring title?

29 teams. The Hurricanes can't seem to keep a consistent line (or defensive pairing). Healthy or Injured.

Well, I'd be lying if I didn't believe the same thing with the Preds. No-neck doesn't believe in keeping a line together for longer than 30 seconds.

I'd be happy if Ottawa had more than one player capable of first-line numbers for more than a game or two at a time.

Oh, and if he wasn't hurt. So I guess it's really the same thing.

So the All-Stars are announced, as are the uniforms for the game. You can even buy one of those sweaters now! Just one problem: no one knows what player will be on what team until Jan 28th.

I suspect they're going to issue one white and one dark for every player, and whatever team they end up on will be how they determine what sweater they'll wear.

You know what's awesome? Getting shut out 6-0 by a team that played last night.

Yep, great performance tonight all around.

You'll pardon if I don't say anything. My boys have been on a roller coaster ride over the last month and a half (five wins, five losses, six wins). I'm not sure if they're the worst bunch of players in the world or if they could beat the '57 Habs in their skivvies.

Did Shane O'brien manage to crack the line up for Nashville?

Central division looks tough for a team that's not Chicago or Detroit. I think the the predators will make the playoffs.

You might say it's giving Bylsma...
... a real headache.

But seriously Crosby should take how ever much time it takes to FULLY recover before coming back lest this sort of thing plague the rest of his career.

A certain someone never really recovered from this hit...

True that. I think Crosby will be fine as long as he doesn't rush back. Unlike Lindross Crosby has the ability to maintain an upright cranium while playing hockey.

Speaking of which - can someone please clear up the bell carillon that's set up shop in Matt Lombardi's head? We kinda need him.

And all it took was to put J.P. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuumont on a line with two kids called up from Milwaukee to help him regain his youth. :)
