I'm probably desensitized because of where I went to college, but these don't seem all that out-there to me.
the gold people one was kind of weird, but honestly, these all just kind of seem regular old Japan to me. Where's the cockroach eating porn subculture, y'know?
My ex loved Visual Kei bands... Dir En Grey (Which really doesn't dress visual kei anymore), LMC, Miyavi, Versailles... Some of the music was actually decent, I like some Dir En Grey and a bit of Miyavi's more blues-esque stuff. But yeah they dress weird as fuck.

How is this any different from Guidos, Goths, Punks, or kids who put a few grand into making their Cadillac look like a McDonald's ad? Hell, bands like Slipknot, KISS, or Mudvayne started with pretty striking visual gimmicks like any Visual Kei band.

That said, that whole kawaiisa thing (kinda-sorta covered in that article's Lolita section) Japan has going on does kind of creep me out. Perhaps this is because, unlike Icarus, I am not attracted to either little girls or Victorian china dolls.
