Minor victory thread

Well hsppy belated birthday to you, Bonesy. Hope it was good despite the work, and I hope this new year of yours is a good one!

Hopefully you already started looking, since the housing market is insane everywhere.
I didn't get the dallas job, so we're moving into an apt for a minimum 1 year while I continue that search. The market up here is insane...i'm getting offers WAY above asking, with waiving contengencies (inspection, appraisal, etc).

Seems to be true everywhere, yeah... House prices have nominally risen about 6-7% here, but the past year we've also transitioned from "start with the asking price and haggle down a bit" to "you'll be offering at least 10-15% over asking price, right, because otherwise don't even bother".

I'm so mad, Shaw only allowed for 10 mb/s upload (well over a gb/s down). Telus offers 1000/1000 to my friends, 3 blocks away, but not here.

Managed to get the first week of my month of on call jury duty excused since I'm getting my second shot that week. Still have 4 weeks of on call potential jury duty though.

So, a while back I got a TerraMaster F4-220 to act as my plex server.

I'm loving the crap out of it. It's got a rock stable Linux OS, and is fully capable of handling the Plex software directly on the box, so I've got it as a black-box NAS to store my movies and videos as well as run Plex for me.

The problem: It's noisy as shit. Buzzy and vibrating a lot. The instructions said "hey, it's noisy. Maybe put it in a place where that won't bug you."

I stuck it on my desk anyway. And for months, I've been nudging it and sliding it around to minimize the buzzing. Then the other day, I happened to touch one of the faceplates that have drives behind them, and the buzzing stopped. So I grabbed some LockTite putty, and applied it to the faceplates...and it's been so quiet for days now. So Nice!

Man, I gotta try this with my dehumidifier.

We have a box fan like this. The grilles are merely friction-fit, so if you don't want them to rattle you have to lean a shoe against it or something.

I refitted my old pc warhorse with all new gear, and it usually takes a few bangs on the top case for the fan noise to fall to the exceptable, perhaps I should look into this.

Every time someone reacts to that Terramaster picture, I cringe at how many crumbs and crud is in the crevices. I need to get some canned air.

I got one of these awhile back and have never looked at canned air again. Yeah it's decently expensive initially but with the number of electronics I have anymore it more than makes up for it by not losing pressure when you need it most like I found canned air would.

OMG, I totally forgot that I had a much cheaper one of those (I think I spent $20 or $30).
Look at that nicely cleaned NAS :D

Edit: I was wrong. It wasn't cheaper. And mine blows instead of sucking.

Went over to the apartment right after work to retrieve supplies for a couple more days. All was quiet. I got right back out again without incident.

This should not be a win. This should not be necessary. But this is where we are. This is all I can do.

Dunno if anyone will get why it's so cool, but I got accepted onto the NoPixel GTARP server. :D
Very nice! That's impressive.

My minor victory: Went to pay my bills this month. Money is a bit tight so every little bit helps. I've been paying extra on my wife's credit card and truck payment. So when I went to pay I looked at the minimum due. $0 due on her credit card until June and $28 due on the truck...also in June. So I save a couple hundred dollars this month. Yeah, I know I could pay on them anyway, but it is hitting at just the right time.

We only owe $3k on her truck. Almost done.
