Coronavirus Thread

Unarmed college students is a far cry from dudes in goatees and MAGA hats toting 3-foot long penis extensions, nazi banners and confederate flags.

Unarmed = Kent State.

Armed = Branch Davidian.
Not the same either. Who were the Branch Davidians protesting or looking to cow into submission from within the confines of their compound?

Did the Branch Davidians try to take over the state house in Austin?

My sister sent out a message asking when we wanted to have my mom's celebration of life party. My suggestion was that June is too soon, I'm going to be gone most of July, and since her birthday is on a Saturday in October, why not make it an actual celebration of life and have it then. My sister loves the idea. My brother - a racist piece of shit MAGA Trumper - wants to have it in June because there's nothing to the virus. Note that he's only recently beaten testicular cancer so he has a compromised immune system, which makes him double plus stupid.

But since he isn't going to plan shit or do shit anyway, I'm going to advise my sister to do what she feels best and I'll be there. But after it's over my brother is going to lose my number and get told to never contact me again under any circumstances.

It's weird, my hardcore right winger brother has definitely toned down in the last while, mostly because despite being weirdly right wing, he's also not a complete idiot, so he sees just how fucking trash the conservatives have been here. Now he's into the whole both sides suck shit style of things, which is at least an improvement.

We can both agree that both Trump and Biden are garbo and have a laugh about that.

A church I used to attend is going to hold in-person services tomorrow. "Please consider wearing masks."
....

"consider"

No. No, no, no. Not enough "NO" to know how much "no" I want to no. No.

There is going to be singing. Forceful exhaling of air from the mouth. 6 feet apart is NOT gonna be enough when you've got lots of people singing without masks in an enclosed space!

There's going to be so many more cases of COVID-19 in Texas in the next couple of weeks.

Published May 12th by the CDC:
High SARS-CoV-2 Attack Rate Following Exposure at a Choir Practice — Skagit County, Washington, March 2020

61 people gathered for choir practice, one of them sick, and 52 ended up infected. 86.7% infection in under 3 hours. Two people died and another needed hospitalization.

Granted, they weren't staying 6 feet apart, and weren't wearing masks, but they did know COVID-19 was going around, and had been told to wash their hands and such. We have no idea exactly how much distancing and masks actually help. The odds of catching COVID-19 may still be pretty high, even with precautions.

No there won't! If you only test 100 people a day, you'll never get more than 100 new cases a day! It's foolproof!

So what you\re saying is that you didn't expect him to have the balls to suggest that...

(man, I type for a living and typing drunk is hard)

This is a church where I know the minister.

And the article has been spread widely in my professional circles.

We ain't meeting in person any time soon.
My daughter's voice teacher was in a teleconference about when singing *might* be safe again. Most choir director types I know are taking this seriously.

I saw a kid riding a hoverboard down the street while wearing an inflatable bumper ball. That's one way to social distance :D

Well, who's going to notice, really?
All people care about is seeing that the lines going down are the coronavirus ones, and the lines going up are the stocks market ones.
