Coronavirus Thread

LOOK AT ALL THE B-ROLL WE SHOT! LONG-TERM INVESTMENT FTW!!

Actually, the one I think has the worst timing is the Subaru one I see all the time where the two parents brag about they bought their Subaru so they could drive their toddler son all over the country, and it's like, "Read the room, Subaru!".

I just wish we could identify these people with an ear tag or something so that when they inevitably wind up at the hospital with covid-like symptoms, they can be sent back home with some big fat placebos so the health care workers don't get exposed unnecessarily.

I said something similar. Fuck these morons gathering in groups. I don't want to be anywhere near these assholes, and I want anyone I care about to see their stupid a mile away. Let them gather in groups, scream at the void that they want their freedom. Once this is all over, I look forward to the rest of us moving on while they suffer the consequences of their stupidity.

Unfortunately, being on the right side means having to be the bigger man. Because healthcare is and should be treated as a basic right, one that even these morons should receive.

But until the morons agree they should have it, especially when their actions risk the lives of everyone else.

Till then, fuck 'em. Life is hard enough without trying to save the lives of someone drowning trying to drag you down too.

It's troubling to think of tracking people's movements, especially from a political rally, but damn I wish there were some reasonable way to force these people to be accountable for the consequences to their actions.

Honestly, their heads are so far up their asses, even if something bad happened to them or someone close to them, they'll find a way to blame it on someone else.

Plenty that could be done, but unfortunately most of it involves tactics which would erode personal freedoms.
Apple and Google are already cooperating to do just that sort of thing, but from a containment perspective.
...case in point. There isn't much that can be done that couldn't also later be perverted somehow into a surveillance tool with motives unknown, even if restricted to just the data already collected.

My favorite is "I'm not taking a vaccine if they develope one, it'll just be a secret tracking chip so they can monitor your movements"

I amended my comment, but the secret tracking thing is just bullshit.
Even if effective transponders could be made that small, the lack of battery life would render them practically useless, and even RFID-based solutions will eventually be eroded and destroyed by the body's own systems.

I know we were discussing landlords in a different thread, but I think this one belongs here, instead.

Hawaii landlords reportedly [soliciting] sexual favors [in lieu of] rent amid pandemic

I had to send a message out to my colleagues about this so they could help some of their housing clients. It, unfortunately, happens often with vulnerable populations even in more "normal" times. There is a surge being noticed now because more women are unable to come up with rent money.

Maryland had a protest group too, but it went a little safer than others.

They never got out of their cars. Almost like there's an infectious disease at the center of all this that necessitates lockdowns.

But for the other protests, I wonder how they'd have reacted if someone walked up to join, coughing hard.

This is kind of long but a good read. A user on Reddit did some searching and found that all of these "FREE WHATEVER" were astroturfed from the same account.

Wife and her mom got into a shouting match outside. I wasn't dressed so I couldn't go out to see what was up until after it was over. I went later to smooth things over as best I could.

"Obama gave the Chinese the money to develop it."

"It came through already in November last year. [wife's grandmother] had a bad cough and it was fine"

--- my mother inlaw, 4/19/20

So yeah. Trying to salvage their relationship is going to be fun.

I'm so happy that despite living in fucking Alberta, both of my parents are relatively sane. Well, my mom is mostly. My dad is even more left than I am, USUALLY. He lets his misogyny slip out sometimes.

I unfollowed a longtime family friend on twitter so I wouldn't have to explain to my sister why I might have called his mental faculties into question.
