Coronavirus Thread

I started working from home. My work still wants me to come in. Fuck that. I can do my job just as well from here so I am.

My boss is on board so I don't give a shit. The governor (the enormous human thumb) just set limits of 10 people at a gathering. Shit, I have meetings with more people than that. So I made a unilateral decision.
Well I guess my boss is NOT as on board as I thought. Might be in a bit of trouble that way.

Isnt he still quarantined? that should kinda be a sign that people should be serious about this. Sorry Dave

All places of worship have been ordered closed here for days, and most mosques and churches didn't even wait but started earlier. Putting thousands of elderly people together in one big room and tell them to hold hands, maybe share a chalice of wine... It's beyond dumb. I don't hope for bad things to happen to people very often, even bad people, but that community right there? They can all get corona for their idiocy.
Pretty much every other serious disease is a Punishment for God - maybe they should consider one specifically targeting the old that they're being selfish idiots and f*cked up the earth for the generations after them? I dunno.

He got a nastygram from HIS boss. I think he's covering his ass a little.
Sadly, these are the same kinds of people who, when they or one of their loved ones gets the virus, will immediately make a video and go "I didn't listen. And I should have! I've got COVID19 and docs say I might not live. Don't be like me..."

Just got a memo from higher ups suggesting that all church gatherings be suspended until Mar. 30.

We're gonna need longer than that, but at least it's a recommendation.

"This is straight-up gaslighting propaganda."
Oh no! Who knows how long this may have been going on without us realizing it???

They just closed the Bryan and College Station ISDs until 4/3.

Apparently they're optimistic that this will all blow over in 2 weeks I guess?

Well MY boss is already in quarantine. So...

Rumor I've heard in this industry is that schools want to start e-learning but they can't get servers to set it up. Dell server manufacturing in China has been shut down for a month.

City of Mesa is under an emergency declaration. All city facilities (museums, art centers, libraries, offices) are closed.

I haven't heard about what I'm supposed to do tomorrow, but I suspect I'll find out in short order.

Spoilered for Length

I've talked here before about my mother's side of the family, more specifically her siblings and some of their spouses, being your typical American, white, privileged out-of-touch boomers, ranging from "blissfully ignorant" to "slobbering at the teat of Fox News". And while they are all on Facebook with each other, they still manage to have group text conversations on the semi-regular, usually started by the Fox sycophant. None of them really need to be texted, but most puzzling of all is somehow I've gotten included on them, which makes no sense because a)I'm not in their peer group, b)I never respond to them, and c)I have made no secret that I absolutely do not agree with them politically, like, ever. And I've even blocked a couple of numbers so I don't have to see this circle-jerk of stupidity, but somehow I still catch parts from time-to-time, despite my efforts not to.

About a week and 1/2 ago they were bitching and moaning (from the parts I could see) about people "over-reacting" to the coronavirus, and how annoyed they were that they have to cancel vacation plans "over nothing". (Right here, I'm going to make a side note that my mother is probably the most "woke" of her siblings, but usually tries to keep the peace, so her only comment on the whole thing was that we should feel sorry for the people in China and Italy who are having it far worse. That fell on deaf ears.) And lo and behold, as I talking to my mother on the phone tonight, I find out that one of said nay-sayers' kid just came back from studying abroad AND GUESS WHO HAS ALL THE SIGNS OF CORONAVIRUS??? And is being kept at her grandparents house by herself (the grandparents are away in their winter home), as her parents drop off food for her and are trying to find a place to get her tested? Oh, and to keep this under my hat because they don't want to tell the family yet. GEE, I WONDER WHY. IT'S NOT SO FUNNY NOW, IS IT, FAMILY OF MINE??? (I also want to note that I feel immensely bad for my cousin, who has always been a really sweet girl and does not deserve this at all.)

I'm not taking any joy in this, I'm just so damn frustrated that they can be so myopic and ignorant so much of the time.

Me: It's 10:30. I'm hungry. Maybe I should go get a burger.

Also me: I'd have to put on pants, so no.

Social distancing since 1968.

I’ve been wearing leggings since we were instructed to telework. It’s my equivalent since most people don’t consider them pants :)

And working much longer hours because I’m an idiot and feel responsible for other people’s messes.

Sadly, may I suggest this thread get pinned for the time being?

Personal note: I have to be "available to work" during my regular work hours, but I'm to stay home until further notice.

I'm sitting at my desk right now. I might get a stern talking to about yesterday. On video because my boss is quarantined.

Any employer that has employees who have the capability to work from home, but they force to come in to the office, should be fined.
