Coronavirus Thread

I mean, China has universal healthcare, technically.
Apparently China just sent aid, including an expert medical team and blood reserves, to Italy to assist with the coronavirus outbreak there.

Meanwhile, Trump, who eliminated the federal pandemic response team and never replaced them (in 2018), put a delayed and very porous restriction on travel from Europe, and is overseeing a response in which the Dow Jones has plummeted twice, including immediately after he addressed the nation on the issue, and the US has tested in total the number of people South Korea tests in a single day.

Source is Twitter, so block of salt and all that.

Also, there's always a tweet:

The largest hospital in the area cannot test for COVID-19. But the governor has a shitload of hand sanitizer, so all's well?

If I were ever to hit the lottery, a quarter of the winnings are going to a "fuck this shit, I'm out" ad campaign on my way out the door.

Going into work today basically just to pack up my shit. It's being "strongly recommended" we work from home beginning next week, for the foreseeable future.

Everyone at work had been wondering why this wasn't asked of us already, but we're glad it's finally happening. We're pretty close to downtown and most of the staff takes public transit to get in.

I'm related news, my wife's school had a kid go home sick and check into the hospital with a fever yesterday. Shit's getting real and I'm trying to keep calm for my wife, who is full blown panicking.

People are stupid herd animals.
There's an incredible rush on all supermarkets, with people fighting over toilet paper and so on, while the government has clearly said supermarkets are remaining open, and going in is the worst thing you can do because it'll get you close to a lot of other people. Supermarkets themselves have already said there are no supply problems on any of the necessities and there's no reason for concern etc etc.
Oh well.

Its not about supply issues as much as "any day I could suddenly be told I can't leave my house for two weeks" issues.

We have to go grocery shopping and I fear doing this. Not because I'm afraid of getting sick but because the crowds are fucking awful and shit's going to be picked over.

Oh, and, unless the Trump administration is hiding a whole lot of stuff (which is completely implausible and unlikely, of course) , those "European" Corona spreaders? The strains of Corona in the publicly known cases are from Wuhan, Iran, and Japan. Not a single one from Europe.

Of course, Ohio officials claim there may be 100.000 people infected in the state, with 5 known cases, so.... :aaah:

Aaaand MI's Governor has just canceled all public K-12 school for the next 3 weeks.

@Celt Z It's my wife I fear for most. She's trying to write a novel right now, and she's already gone on record saying that if school gets canceled and she has to put up with our son interrupting her every 5min because they cancel school, she's gonna strangle somebody.

I’m getting tired of all the people who think they’re super funny and original by posting ads for “Looking to trade this pack of TP for a car. I know what I got.” It’s not funny any more. Stop.

Our office just sent two people home for coughs. Which means if they have it, it's too late. But hopefully it's something else.

People are ridiculous here. I see how quickly information turns into misinformation through people who like to morph facts or just plain don't understand things, and we're an office of less than 30 people. Easy to see how it happens on a national scale.

Also:

Sick person leaves, touching door handle.
Not sick person grabs same door handle.
Not sick person immediately wipes hand over mouth.

Please announce remote work today.

Our province just implemented social distancing, voluntary quarantine and expanded testing. We have no confirmed cases yet. All sports and school activities are cancelled.

Cool, my mom's sick as well as my aunt (who she lives with) and my uncle (who's very weak now in general thanks to leukemia). There's a ton of cases in her town. Her symptoms match. They're all in the danger age range.

Fuck this.

My immuno-suppressed brother in law has leukemia. He lives in Spokane. He gets this there's a good chance he's dead.
