Video Game News and Miscellany

Oh the Blizzard letter was definitly written by someone in China or at least proof read and edited by someone there. They didn't even properly set the time and it listed the post going up in a Chinese timezone when first put up, meaning the uploader did it from a Chinese server.

The whole letter was basically a non answer.

Worst yet, someone in Blizzard was interviewed and the whole company is in fear because no one is saying anything. It's pure silence on the controversy, censoring it internally. They are also deleting account names using Hong Hong freedom slogans and banning anyone that talks about it from the forums for trolling.

What surprises me the most though? That this actually surprises people. Companies have abused China for decades for their cheap labor and manufacturing. We funnel so much money that way and then shrug when they use that money to buy massive stakes in all our public companies.

It was only a matter of time.

The lost source code for the PC port of Saints Row 2 has been found! SR2 will be getting a patch fixing a number of issues.

- Performance issues will be improved
- All DLC from the Xbox version will be added to PC
- GameSpy will be removed and the game will use Steam for matchmaking instead.
- Radio and audio will be fixed (the compression was terrible)
- Draw distance will be improved
- Xbox button prompts will be standard (hopefully control remapping will be improved as well)

Source is a livestream done for the 11th anniversary of SR2. Discussion about it on Reddit.

How did this game slip out with no fanfare whatsoever. It looks incredible and according to reviews has amazing writing to go with it. In right now. Downloading as we speak.

I had this on my wishlist. I have to wait on the reviews on the outer world and then decide which one to buy. Cant buy two 40€+ games in one month. :(

Honestly one thing I hate is how they keep bringing up "Focus on the tournament! It's not political! It's part of the rules!"

When over the last few years they have done dozens of pro-LGBTQ messages including celebrating pride month, on their own twitter and even during their own league broadcasts.

Listen, I am not saying they shouldn't be doing that, I like that they do those events, but it just proves it's not the "politics" of it that they don't tolerate. They only bring it up when those politics hurt their market share. You damn well know if pro players said some other political message that wouldn't hurt them in a huge market they wouldn't have cared.

The truth is they don't care about LGBT or any of the other good things they do, they only do them because they view the good publicity they gain as being greater than any negative reaction it might hold. The same with China, they view the money they get from China as worth more than siding for human rights.

Offical Steam post: Introducing Steam Remote Play Together

The most important part to me, "Only the host needs to own and install the game, while additional players connect through Steam Remote Play streaming technology."

I'm eager to try this one out.
Just make sure the host has a good internet connection. What's happening is the host is streaming their screen to the other players, and the other players are sending their button presses back to the host computer

Yes, I know this. As should be evidenced by the amount of other posts I've made about Steam Remote Play, about testing it on my phone, etc.

A lot more than just the host having good internet is going to be necessary, given my experience with just trying to stream over my own network. Bad WiFi on the client side is enough to cause a heap of troubles, in my experience, and I'm sure there are going to be other factors as well. It's still something I want to try, and I'm glad to learn that there aren't any unnecessary hurdles being thrown in, like requiring every player to own a copy of the game.

Good thing Ben Brode isn't in charge anymore, they never buffed anything back then. They'd probably have broken the other winners' trophies instead.

MTG pro Lee Shi Tian interviewed after a top 8 finish, wears bandana mask during interview and speaks out about his hometown of Hong Kong:
"Life has been very tough in my hometown in Hong Kong [...] It feels so good to play as a free man"
...
WotC does nothing. No cutaway during the interview, no sanction, no ban. They just let him speak. Weird.

Well, the Giant Bomb guys are gushing over Outer Worlds one of them as far as saying it's easily his game of the year so far so that's good. They're fucking miserable jaded bastards too.

So, it's available on Gamepass for PC, which is a dollar for the first month.

I said, hey, that seems like a reasonable thing to do. Gamepass is an honestly halfway decent service. So I go for it. It asks me where I want to preinstall The Outer Worlds. I say, on my G drive please, since that is the place I install my games. Microsoft says, WHOA THERE FELLA, we need you to mark the G drive as your default Windows app drive. I say, ok whatever, who gives a shit. Microsoft says, WHOA THERE FELLA, there's other apps installed on that drive, we need to COMPLETELY CLEAR IT OUT before you can use it to install our shit.

WHAT. THE. FUCK?

WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS NOW?

Ok, false alarm, it only wanted to delete other Windows apps installed there by another device...which I have no idea what that means since it didn't actually do anything.

So - get this - Bethesda has added an update to Fallout 76. And not the kind of update people want or have been clamoring for, no! It's a subscription service! Now you can pay $13 a month to play a game that is not a game!

Nobody playing our game and we're losing money hand over fist? Guess we'll start charging people. That'll do the trick!

Nope. It adds a private server for you and 7 of your friends and a few other "perks" that aren't really perks. It adds NO gameplay or makes any changes to the game.
