Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

My wife: "I'm really, truly, 100% convinced that the majority of this negativity directed toward AOC is because...they're attracted to her. And attractive women her age are only supposed to provide boners and blow jobs, not leadership and legislation."

--Patrick
I literally saw a Trumpanzee say that she got her seat in congress by, and I quote, "giving 1000 blowjobs".

So yeah, that's exactly it.

I already hate people who are both funny and good looking. People who are funny, good looking *and* smart are horrible. People who look good, are funny and smart, and successful, they're even bigger dicks. God forbid I meet someone who's smart, funny, good looking, succesful, and also popular and female and colored and....
Up to a certain point, she's proof that America still functions - it IS still possible to make it on your own, with a lot of things working to your disadvantage. No white guy who's unsuccessful in life and believes that it's all just a matter of hard work and you'll get there eventually, can look at her without having to confront their own failure to achieve the same...Or something.

If only she spelled her name with a K instead of a C.
Because then she'd be A OK to everyone.
Again, it's so confusing because my monitor has a big, silver AOC logo right there at the bottom.
I don't know if they're happy or annoyed by how AO-C has co-opted their brand. So far no lawsuit about spoiling their search results, though.

That might be a small part of it, but I think on that level it's more that he can't use her looks as a way to diminish her, as often happens to women. God forbid someone should be stunning conventionally attractive, why should we value what she has to say?
It certain helps that she has her finger on the pulse of millennials and zennials. Attempts to shame her by Republicans have basically floundered because it's ether stuff people of our generation would have done (like the dancing video), would support (her trans rights outspokenness), or outright admire (her utter and completely open contempt for old white dudes). The more they try to bring her down, the cooler she becomes and that's only helping her career.

Let's see if she can deliver though.

I was referring to only the subject of her attractiveness, but this is really the main "secret" to her success thus far.

this totally describes the girl I had a crush on all throughout junior high and high school. Though she didn't become successful until she graduated, naturally. And she was the sweetest, must humble person.

Probably the only reason I got to be good friends with her was because I didn't care that her family was from Iran when we met, back when the US was having issue with the Ayatollah. I musta been a rarity back then in small town redneck Texas.

Well she made a pretty strong showing already with the Cohen hearings.

For a while, I was worried that she was voted in because of what she represents, and not because of her ability to meet the requirements of the position.
I am no longer as worried about this.

She had some of the best questions at the Cohen hearing, and knew that even if Cohen couldn't answer the question, she needed to have him name people that COULD!

So many politicians during these things just ask the question, get a "I don't know" answer, then move on, but nope, she was willing to get as many other peoples names on the record as possible. This gives them more power to investigate.

The fact that you are so happy she got him to name other people who might be involved, just so Congress can expand the scope of its investigation, makes me very, very nervous,.

Your really invoking McCarthyism on this? This is a actual criminal investigation, not an ideological schism. We need to know who is involved and let the courts (not specifically congress) apply the proper legal resolutions. I want everyone that may be helping Trump hide all his skeletons to start digging them up.

Saying that is nearing McCarthyism is very Fox News of you.

Trump isn't Republican. He'd do anything for approval.
Whatever. My point is: There was enough "no one" who believed the bullshit and voted to make Trump president, and things aren't going to get better until he is out and someone other than a Republican takes his place.

Not to mention that all of these crimes were illegal long before they were committed. It's not like how communists were (illegitimately) barred from office and imprisoned before the search went on to McCarthy's personal enemies, gays, and other undesirables. There's a significant chance these people are going to avoid prison and any inconvenience to their livelihood even if they are guilty of serious crimes.

Yeah it's kind of an apples and hand grenades comparison. The socialists and undesirables being hunted in the Red Scare weren't doing anything wrong, they just had political beliefs or lifestyles that the WASPs in power disagreed with and that McCarthy could use to grasp increasing amounts of influence.

In this case, the people involved have broken actual laws and compromised the political process and method of governance of this nation. It's not really the same thing at all.

Yes because Communism having killed around 3-8 million in Ukraine by that point (hardly all that Stalin is responsible for), or the Great Leap Forward in China (right around the same time) which estimates go from around 40 million to more than 100 million, depending on whom you believe.

So ya, stopping Communists from holding office was such a TERRIBLE idea given the atrocities they had already committed by that point.

Some of the methods used for McCarthism were bad. The end goal however is laudable: Communism is quite possibly the most destructive ideology to human life that has come about, in raw numbers, EVER. And yet people still say it's good? Ya fucking right. Hint: when every "implementation" of it ever has resulted in horrific fucking atrocities committed by the state as part of it maybe you should think that maybe it's not just the implementation, and more a fundamental problem.

Capitalists committed genocide on the Native Americans. The body count was only limited by the initial population limitations.
