Former President Trump Thread

I'm sure Trump will push that. "Heroic reopening of the government that the Democrats wanted to keep shutdown forever by YOUR GREAT PRESIDENT, ME." Meanwhile, Youtube will still be running his border crisis ads that won't stop even though I turned off political ads in my settings.
Truly, YouTube Vanced is an invention for the ages.

Apparently as Speaker of the House, that actually is removing his invitation to come to congress to deliver the speech, so he has to write a letter (one of the two is required of the president by law).

You have to remember, The Cheeto In Charge hates the NFL. He'd keep the shutdown going until after the SB just to spite them.

EDIT: as for Pelosi's letter: He could "live tweet" the State of the Union address... oh GOD what did I just SAY????

So our national shutdown now rests on Tom Brady's ability to negotiate with the president.

Every part of my body just shuddered.

I also remember Brady was cheerleading for Trump until his wife told him to shut up. I apparently don't care.

When it comes to sports teams doing atrocious things that would have me refusing to watch them, only the Houston Astros have hit that bar. I think that was just last year when they picked up a pitcher the Jays dumped after he was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend.

They really, REALLY don't want these people coming back. They are trying their best to get people to quit and "shrink" the government.

Well, the White House just released info that the economic impact is already twice as bad as anticipated and is going to get worse if this keeps going. Not paying isn't going to fix that.

Airline and food control...I can see how you'd classify those as necessary for the people's safety. Not to add new planes, but still. Oil and gas drilling and permits, though? I mean, even if it wasn't for those specific industries, it's still very much just for money, not safety. I think I'd honestly refuse too return to work (unpaid) if I had one of those jobs.

Banks must be working hard on the math, trying to figure out if they stand to make more money off of credit card debt than they stand to lose from the economic downturn caused by the shutdown.

I’m sure there’s a larger-than-I-would-want segment of the population that is rooting for this shutdown to literally kill off some portion of The Poor, the same way they might casually drown a sack of unwanted puppies.

I mean, there are poor trump voters right? Not saying I want the shutdown but gotta find silver linings where you can.

Heard an interesting take on the fast food feast thing. Basically, it's STILL Trump trying to appeal to his base, who would view such fare as "highly American" and delicious, as opposed to whatever fancy feast the White House chef would prepare. So any complaints about the "fine china touching the nugget sauce" as it were are just demonstrating the class divide that Trump exploits. So complaining about Trump's ostentatious displays of consumption and wealth is pointless because the part of America he's playing to loves ostentatious displays of wealth and consumption... and hates the people who don't.

In that light, the point of the move is obvious in retrospect. It's still worthless and grotesque, but not without reason. He's trying to become the living embodiment of the Ugly American, so they'll side with him if things get ugly.

I honestly think that might be attributing too much forethought to Trump. I think it's more likely he's just a classless idiot, and so he's going to appeal to other classless idiots.

Most likely scenario, he sent all the interns and staffers out to as many fast food joints as possible.

Then collected their receipts and claimed it as a campaign expense and pocketed the money.
