Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

It's strange - they hate Hillary, Obama, Bezos etc. with such passion, and yet they can't understand why the left hates Trump, Pence, etc. with such vitriol.

If they weren't dumb, they wouldn't be republicans.
If they weren’t dumb, we wouldn’t have Gerrymandeing, oceans made of plastic, dead bees, tacit slavery, etc. with people saying, “We have no idea how any of this could’ve happened.”

Oh, we'd still have oceans made of plastic.

Man living in Texas feels surreal right now.

As a long time red state, pretty much eveywhere, democratic canidates are either non-existent or invisible. You can't go a block without a large train of "Vote Republican Guy Guyman for Government Role" posters taking up a field somewhere in Austin, but you won't know if any democrat is running for the same positions without looking it up online yourself. It just never happens, at least around here.

Then Beto came along.

I swear I can't go a block without at least three houses being adorned with the "Beto for Senate" sign. Even areas I thought were more densely republican, like the one my parents live, is covered in Beto signs. I won't lie, when my wife told me about Beto over two months ago I was like "Oh, well cool, not like it will matter. Texas would never go blue."

Now with all the signs sprouting, I go read that Beto is polling in a dead heat with Ted Cruz, and even got Trump so scared he is going to rally here in support of Cruz soon. I don't know whether I should be happy or reserved, it's still more likely Ted Cruz is going to win, but with the fervor over Beto, I just can't help but feel some hope for my state. Remember, I ain't even a democrat, considering myself independent, but the stupidity of the GOP in the wake of the Trump election has soured me to them for the near future, so I want to see them hurting a lot in the midterms. If Texas flips they will know loud and clear the people are not going to take this shit anymore.

I will remain reserved though, I don't want another terror night like 2016. Still...

Beto for Senate.

I can confirm, Ted Cruz's ad people are contacting me EVERY WEEK, literally, asking "Is Beto buying any ads? How about this week? How about this week?" Cruz is scared AF.

Considering they just got the documents a few hours ago, I would think they would keep fighting. But this will make two of the nine Supreme Court justices that are illegitimate and stolen from the American people.

Just watching people live tweeting what's happening, it's a total shit show and I love it. But unless the Dems can flip a couple of GOP senators, it's just spectacle.

I think you need education on what countries are responsible for plastic waste, in the oceans or otherwise: https://www.earthday.org/2018/04/06/top-20-countries-ranked-by-mass-of-mismanaged-plastic-waste/

USA is at the bottom of that list. Everywhere else is also TINY. I've seen other sources that say that something like 90-95% of the plastic in the oceans is from SE Asia. Throw out your plastic people, if you're in Canada, the USA, Europe, or the other actual "1st world" countries, it's a statistical non-event the amount that ends up in the ocean. We are NOT the problem.

Yeah, that's what I meant with "Oh, we'd still have oceans made of plastic"

The second line was a joke . . . that just did not go over well with my fellow Canadians. :(

But is SE Asia the source of plastic because they PRODUCE that garbage, or because it's where the rest of the world has been dumping it's plastic for the past 25 years? This wasn't the original article where I read this, but China has been taking in everyone else's recycling, and it recently said it wouldn't be doing so anymore to clean up it's own environment. It may indicate that the other "1st World Countries" have only dropped on the list not because we do much of our recycling, but because we've been shoving it elsewhere.

Fair, except for the fact that they were supposed to be recycling it. If they said "oh ya, we'll PAY YOU for stuff," and then just dump it in the oceans anyways? That doesn't make economic sense either. Remember they were buying it from the west, not being paid to take it. Other circumstances where that is exactly what happens exist, but that's not the one for plastic.

I'm not trying to say China has a sterling record, and it seems they bit off more than they can chew. I wondering if a lot of it ended up in the water intentionally, through over-crowding, or just through sloppy transportation. Probably a combination of all 3. But my question, and we probably won't have an answer for a few years, is how the numbers will be effected once the US, Canada, Europe, etc. has to pick up the recycling/trash that China had been doing for them.

We do landfills "right" so I'm betting not that different. If it starts blowing around, people protest, and people get voted out. If you get "uppity" in many of those other countries, you're just jailed, and the corruption & pollution continues. So I'll bet it'll result in an increase in landfills (that won't be noticable, you'd be surprised how "little" land they take up), and that's it. Maybe somebody will see the "mountains" of plastic being produced and finally have a good incentive to commercialize even better recycling technology and make a lot of money off of it. That'd be the ideal.

God I hate all this shit.

"Did you talk to someone about this specific thing? Yes or no."

"Well I don't recall maybe I who are you talking about for the question at hand..."

Me: JUST SAY FUCKING YES OR NO, FUCK.

I understand she is trying to trap him because she likely knows something he was unaware she knew, but this is the whole fucking point of these things, to get the truth on this shit, espessially when there is conflicts of interest with the presidents own possible legal troubles. Anyone that rolls around the question over and over and over again needs to be fined or something, I swear to god I am fucking tired of this secretive bullshit when it happens every damn time someone is put before a committee.

His failure to respond shows he's trying to cover up that he knows exactly who he spoke to at that firm. If he really didn't know if he'd spoken to someone who worked there, he could ask "Can you give me a list of everyone who works at the firm, so I can tell you if I've spoken to any of them?" But he doesn't want to do that, because he'd have to admit exactly who on the list he'd spoken to, that it's someone he should have known off the top of his head works for that firm, and that it's someone he shouldn't have been talking about the case with.

Well, that's as hardcore as I KNOW EXACTLY THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION AND YOU'RE FUCKED IF YOU LIE question I've ever seen. Was she a prosecutor?

Googling says yes.

Okay...

Corey Booker says he is releasing committee sensitive documents during the confirmation hearing. Rep. Cornyn literally threatens him with expulsion for releasing sensitive documents. Documents are released. Tons of arguing over not following procedures on releasing documents. But wait, what's this? Those documents are now suddenly "approved for release" anyways?

Oh isn't that convenient.
