[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

So you're equating airplane etiquette with parking lot etiquette? Sacrilege!
I find it a bit odd that you came in with the "we live in a society" bit and then immediately switched gears to "it's a cutthroat-anything-goes anarchy deathmatch in the parking lot."

That's a real Dave move, Dave!

But that's the way parking lots ARE! First come first served. Parking lots - with the exceptions of ACTUAL assigned spots, handicapped spots, etc. - are anarchy. Go to the mall on Christmas and tell me they aren't.

In a public parking lot, that's more the case.
However, this is an employee parking lot (guests/visitors don't park there because it has kind of a gate thing). We're a small and informal bunch (like I said, less than 30 employees) so "the mall at christmas" it definitely is not.

Maybe your boss is encouraging this, because if he gets you to ragequit then he can sell the station without any issues.

I tried to quit twice. They gave me a raise both times to keep me. I don't think they want to go that way :p

Anyway, she left and I reclaimed my spot. Balance is restored.

You're like the guy who gets pissed and leaves notes on your car if you park in front of his house. If the spot isn't marked and someone gets there before you, tough titties.
Had a minor turf war over street parking on my street earlier. Folks parking at my house usually have to park in front of my neighbor's because I have a fire hydrant on my front lawn. One of my dickhole neighbors started some shit over it.

It wasn't stealing. The spot is not yours. There is nothing tying it to you other than social custom. If you talk to your bosses and they put a sign indicating that it belongs to you, then it is yours. Instead it sounds like you expect a valuable spot to be unused if you aren't there. Inefficient use of resources.

I kind of have to agree with this? But frankly, I also think Gas should just have them make it official and make it reserved if it's "understood" to be his official parking spot. He certainly does enough for the business to just ask them to do it and it costs them basically nothing.

Oh and just to point out that I'm no hypocrite:

When I worked in my company's main office, the CEO would park in the same spot pretty much every day. There was no sign. That was just where he parked.

If I got to work and that was the only available close spot? You bet your ass I parked there. His name wasn't on it. Its fair game.

I get to work earlier than nearly every person in my office. The parking lot is empty. So I always park in the same spot. Lately there's been a guy who shows up even earlier and he has started parking there. At first I was a bit indignant, but I parked next to him and moved on with my life because that wasn't MY spot, just a spot that I usually took that I liked. Not even the president of the university has an assigned spot.

If it's your spot, then you can easily say "excuse me, but that is my spot. Please don't park there again" with the confidence that ownership would take your side the way they would if someone started using your office.

That's the beauty of it. I didn't even have to say it. She saw me and went "Oh shit I'm parked in your spot."

You know what's REALLY frustrating?

Having a handicap parking sticker/hanger, then pulling into your local Wallyworldmart and discovering that all the handicap spaces are taken.

You know what's frustrating? Online dating. I'm in a better place (mentally) these days and feel up to try dating again. So figured, what the hell, let's try Plenty of Fish just for the hell of it.

Messaged this one girl who seemed wonderful. She was into meditation and spirituality. Well-written profile. So I write her a long-ish message since she seems the type to receive that well. Her response was short, and used "ur" instead of your. Total opposite of her profile. Ugh.

We all have our personal dealbreakers but I don't know if I'd shoot someone down just over that.

It's not, entirely. I did still message her back. It just sort of felt like false advertising to me. Here's a really well-written, detailed profile and yet the response I get is almost the opposite of that, you know?

It would be hard to tell if that's simply how they chat, or if they aren't giving the conversation much attention.

But for some people, a quick and dirty response is better than a late and great response.

By people without a permit to be in those spaces and you walk across the lot with your cane and they yell out their truck window to talk to you about it after you watched them run, yes run, to get back to that truck parked in the accessible spot that they had no permit or license to be in. They kept yelling out to me because I refused to engage with them.

I was meant to have a parking spot reserved for me at the office as one of my accommodations written into my return. We have accessible parking at work for our bulding, but it’s a few offices down and up this long ramp to get to our door. It’s far from our door. There are a lot of close spots, but those are gone by 7:30 by the guys next door who likely don’t have mobility issues and they’d have no way of knowing anyone in our office did. In the winter, it will be an icy mess as our building maintenance is lacking. (FFS I check mouse traps lol)

I suggested that they just put up another accessible sign, but they want to reserve it for me specifically. That was six weeks ago.

Why don’t the reserve your spot for you?

Then you wouldn’t have to worry.
