What, no Pokemon Go thread?

I switched to a different device Wednesday afternoon and have found four shinies since.

The magic tablet! I think switching devices must have helped lol.

I was on a train for most of the three hours of Larvitar day today, so I didn't catch enough to evolve a new Tyranitar. Did get a shiny Larvitar though, which was nice. Pity it's also puny.
It's been extended 2 hours in Asia-Pacific because of service issues. Keep catching!

I don’t have a count yet of how many I caught, but I used the magic tablet and caught 7 shiny larvitars and a shiny Kyogre.

I caught one really nice one today and I evolved him and two that I had hatched earlier and had been saving in addition to the best shiny I caught. I only just installed Pokie Genie on my tablet today and it works a little bit differently on the tablet, so I’m pretty sure that I didn’t check all of the ones that I caught today.

I’m never using my phone again!

The park we were at had a ton of them for the first two hours, but by the final hour they were getting harder to find. There were a ton of Wailmers and Magikarps and Growlithes of all things.

Kyogre is a beast to catch. I tried so hard to catch one for my daughter today and no matter how many great curveballs I threw at that turd, he wouldn’t stay put.

That park is probably a growlithe nest right now, then!
That makes sense :)

I was just cranky that they weren’t more cute, little Larvitars.

It’s a great park for Pokémon Go. I’ve been a few times and I plan to go again before the water event ends. It has a decent sized canal/pond and there are always a lot of water types there even when there isn’t a water event, so I figure that it would be a nice place to try and find a shiny Shellder.

It will also be a nice place for me to walk in general. My specialist wants me walking more on my good days now that I can without my cane :) Catching Pokémon is an excellent distraction for me when I’m out walking and it helps me not think about how far I’m walking :)

The water event definitely overlapped a lot of spawns that would have been larvitar otherwise. If there hadn't been an event going today and I'd done exactly the same things I did, I probably would have walked away with another 75-100 larvitar that were popping up as wailmer and surskit instead. It's a bit frustrating, but it's probably something to get used to going forward - doesn't seem like we're going to have a lot of time with the "normal" state of the game between events anymore.

Yeah, it's a really good game for tricking yourself into getting out and walking way more than you would otherwise. It's really easy to forget how much you're doing and overdo things though - do you have a step tracker or something that could prod you into stopping after a certain amount of distance?

My final count was 118 Larvitars. I’m sure that it would have been many, many more without the nest and the water event. I’m very happy with how many shiny ones I found though :)

I don’t have one, but I think I could reinstall the Nike Plus on my phone again. I used it years ago when I did my super long walks with the group. Usually I go until I’m in too much pain to continue. That’s not always the best plan. I overdid it today which must be why I’m up in the middle of the night lol.

I caught 125 larvitars on my account, 115 in my girlfriend's (she had to work). Both 4 shinies...my best was 380cp with something like 30%iv. Her best is a level 32, iv 82 beast. Grrr.
That said, I also mainly caught water Pokémon, but with the triple catch xp, triple stardust, continuous lucky eggs and star pieces, those were really interesting catches :D both accounts levelled, so now we're 32 and 37...onwards and upwards!

For those of us who don't regularly follow the Silph Road, they had a 3-part series on shiny rates. I'd recommend reading the whole thing, but it boils down to:

I hope you guys have people around you who you like playing Pokemon Go with. I don't.

Make Way for Friends, Trading, and Gifting in Pokémon GO!

TLDR:
You will be able to "friend" people in Pokego, and can send gifts to them and trade pokes with them.
Traded pokes will have their CP and HP reset to a sort-of-random value, so you'll probably want to use trades to get rid of some low IV pokes.
Trading will cost stardust, but the cost will be lowered as you become better friends with the person you're trading with.
Trading legendaries, shinies, and undiscovered pokes must be done with a special trade, which will require a high friendship level.

Wonder if this will be a "local" only type thing? Have be be near the person you're trading with, or could you be friends with, for example, you bahmv3, and me being in Texas and still be able to trade.

I think you can trade "gifts" with people regardless of distance, and those gifts can have eggs with Alolan forms in them. Impossible to say for sure, but it may be a way for us to interact a bit.

I don’t think there is a distance restriction on the gift boxes, but trading has to be done within 100 metres or feet.

I’m sad that children under 13 aren’t going to be included right away in the friends and trading. I have saved a Latios for my son and I know that he’s going to want the 7km Alolan eggs from the gift boxes.
