Minor victory thread

We used to have a lovely little alt-rock/metal station playing out of a middle-of-nowhere town nearby. Their geography much more closely matches ours than Seattle, Issaquah, and Tacoma do, so the fact that they had actual local DJs, pertinent weather and traffic info, breaking news when necessary, and they didn't over-censor their music, made them my station of choice. One day, I drove to work, listening and singing along to my favorite Korn and Seether songs, traffic reports guiding me around the worst of the congestion, got to work, parked, and went to it. Got in the car at lunch time, to go grab a taco, and what do I hear? Shitty generic Top 40 being piped out of who knows where on the "New! iHeartRadio blahdy blahdy blah." Now the closest thing I've got is their "alt-rock" station, which is just the same three Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, and Nirvana songs played over and over, with a random smattering of Lump and Enter Sandman thrown in for bad measure, all day long.

Rock stations have been hit particularly hard in the death throes of the radio industry, not only by clear channel shenanigans, but by their target demo being the first to embrace digital media... which leads to low ratings, which leads to low ad revenue, which leads to owners selling them in a panic... to CC/Iheart, usually.

My station used to be alternative rock, then rock, then Jack FM, then rock again, then ESPN, and now classic rock. All in the last 7 years or so. In that time, I don't think we've ever broken 3.0 market share, and it's been at least 4 years since we broke 2.0.

Remember the WKRP episode where Venus was hired to be the token human at that automated station?

Do we even need one any more? Even in an emergency, the EAS system would handle the announcements, right?

Well you will still always need sales people. And an engineer. But yes, other than that, two of our five stations actually don't have a single local person live on the air.

The last question was "If you were a cartoon character, who would you be?"

I didn't hesitate for an instant... :D

(I told you I have that avatar for a reason.)

For nearly 10 years I role-played Yosemite Sam! But I would never use that as an answer, because of the fear of workplace violence...

Hot female intern translated a case.

I edited the translation.

Hot female intern came to me to ask, in detail, the reasons I had for every change I made.

I described, in detail, the reasons for every change I made, and how they made the translation better.

Hot female intern is currently fawning over how awesome a translator and editor I am. As a result, I am now filled with a glowing sense of my own magnificence, which is a welcome change from having my confidence battered after a week full of angry client feedback.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why I hire hot female interns.

Fuck you. Hobos need jobs too.

I have finally recovered enough from both of my treatments this week that I can go out and run all the essential errands I need to for the new car. As soon as I'm all registered and insured, it's time to pika my ride!!!!

If I don't go postal waiting here for my license plate transfer. I can hear all the conversations and I have no idea how these people think that the employees can do all these things for them when they show up with zero information and can't remember key details like the year or model of their car. Omg.

My wife is very crafty. As in the "good with her hands" sense and not the "plotting to overthrow a government" sense.

When we redid the office, she thought one of the walls looked a little bare. So she made me some whistle racks.

I gotta say, my wife's rack is pretty nice. ;)

Not to try to outdo the previous post's masterpiece...

This new grocery store right by my apartment has habaneros. This pleases me greatly.

In an unrelated tidbit, habaneros are quite hot.
