[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

Deadpool's after-credits scene was very last minute, for that matter. It can't be certain plans were concrete a year ago. Hell, a year ago I'm pretty sure we assumed the creative team would be the same for the sequel if there was going to be one.

On the one hand, I'm not a big fan of live action adaptations of anime... on the other, I've seen the Japanese LA adaptation of Death Note, and now I sort of feel compelled to watch this one to compare them.

And cue people complaining about Hollywood white washing
Also cue people who will defend any criticism of it by saying "you're just mad cause white washing."

This is probably going to suck, but as Gas alluded, the Japanese live-action movies of it also suck, and those are by a director I like. At least this has Willem Dafoe, and I'm more willing to watch a bad movie than a bad TV show because a movie is over faster.

Wait.

Michael Keaton is the Vulture?

Fuck yeah

Tom Holland nails Peter Parker, and Keaton is Vulture? Man I'll be there on opening night.

There are a few things. I enjoyed the crossovers at first but I'm getting sick of missing all the references. I'm not the kind of person who sees a ton of movies so I'm gonna miss a few. They don't capture my interest anymore. I saw Avengers 2 and it made basically 0 impact on me. Compare that to Logan which was a captivating story that while being part of a franchise, truly felt like a great movie on its own.

Don't worry though, I still have 0 interest in the DCCU.

Not that you're not allowed to be sick of it, but I'm just curious why you are.
I don't want to put words in his mouth, but for me it's because there's approximately 850 movies and the only good ones were the first Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy.

It's just so samey, and I feel like nothing happens. Like, Tony Stark has nightmares after the first Avengers, but also the first Avengers was dumb - why didn't he just point the nuke at the portal and let go? Why did he fly with it? It's a bullet, it just goes in that direction. What does "That's my secret. I'm always angry." even mean?

How many of these magic rocks are there - and will they be the Macguffin of every movie from now until they decide to have a payoff with the purple angry guy? How many years worth of films is that? What is the story, here?

It's exhausting. It's not like Star Wars, or something, where there's a story arc told in three films. It's not like the reboot of Star Trek, where they are more-or-less standalone films of adventure. It's some weird hybrid of repetitive standalones with a weak story that has a promised payoff that never ever comes to fruition. Shit, or get off the pot, guys.

Huh.
If the movie makes good on its promise*, it could actually be good.
But let's see if it can avoid being a retread of the first Iron Man movie.

Oh Chad reminded me. I honestly haven't seen them so maybe he has done something but as far as I know, thanos has just been saying "oooh I'm gonna get those guys, you'll see" for 5 years.

1) As a big fan of the Captain America movies, I respectfully disagree that only two were good. I'd say they're all "good" as far as being more rewatchable than other superhero films, but I also admit to being biased and of course, opinions are subjective. I personally don't think any of them are outright BAD. Even the "bad" ones like Thor 2 are serviceable enough.

2) Tony had PTSD after going from dealing with his own shit (dudes just in power armour) to suddenly fighting aliens, unimaginable hulking monsters, and literal gods. Iron Man 3 could've handled it better, but it informs his growing paranoia and inadequacy in Avengers 2 and Civil War. He was greatly humbled by all the crazy shit after thinking he was the cat's meow.

Also, I imagine he guided the missile right in to ensure it definitely hit its mark. To be fair, he didn't fly too far into the portal.

3) The payoff to Thanos is almost here, but I do get your point. It's a valid criticism. After all this build up with the Gems, I'm concerned the end game won't be worth it. Fingers crossed on that.

4) I think a better approach to the films is treating them less like individual films and more like a TV series. Think of Thanos as the big bad in the overarching series of "episodes."

Being a comic nerd who digs the hell out of seeing all these characters adapted so well (especially with the OVERWHELMING amount of other superhero flicks that horribly miss the mark *coughManofSteelcough*), it's exciting for me. But I fully understand getting overwhelmed or worn out by the number of them if you're not super biased like me.

Whew. Sorry, there was a lot to unpack in your post. Hope it came across as respectful as possible.

Hmm... I feel like the Spider-Man trailer fell into the trap of giving away the whole movie.
That and Spider-man figured out how to be a hero on his own, not having his fucking hand held and everything given to him by Tony fucking Stark. Part of Spidey's mythos is that he became a hero alone against all odds.

They did hint Peter was already doing that in Age of Ultron. Since MCU said they're not going to rehash his origins again, I think it's safe to assume he was already competent, albeit unpolished, prior to meeting Tony. I get the impression from the trailer that they want to show Spidey is his own hero, even without the Avengers and the Stark assistance.
