[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

Ooh, thanks for the heads up. I think I'll rewatch it too.

Only those two things, far as I can tell, both problematic for their own reason. Pringles is worse because they interrupt a scene to point out Holtzman is eating Pringles and she says she can't stop, they're so good. Papa Johns is just there and they're eating it while having a conversation, and is only a problem because they're in friggin Manhattan. If they were visitors, I'd understand, but if you live there you're likely in walking distance of a dozen better-tasting, less-expensive local pizza places.
Yeah, it's always funny how movies set in New York have characters eating Pizza Hut or Papa Johns or shit like that.

Yeah, which is bullshit. Local pizza is the best. There's Nicolosi's at Hillcrest, Rocco's on South Main, Little Italy, Marianna Pizza Cafe, La Bella Via, Francesco's Italian Restaurant (known for their pizza and their gelato)... like 4 others I'm forgetting the name of... then maybe Pizza Hut or Domino's.

Also one time in animation, for a group of revolutionaries Lalouche's group SURE are brand loyal to Pizza Hut.

This one makes sense, as Japan doesn't have a ton of pizza places... and pizza is generally expensive as well for the same reason it's expensive in Hawaii: milk is in short supply, so cheese is too unless you want cheap frozen cheese from the mainland.

Lucy

When she has her 2001 a Space Odyssey acid trip. I screamed at the TV, "THEY HAD NO FUCKING HORSES!" When they showed the pre-Columbian Native Americans. Don't any of these movies hire a historian?

Lucy was great and the conflict versus the "villains" wasn't the point
I'd say it is a bit like what Deathwish would be like if Dr Manhattan were the protagonist. Which sounds boring to me, and is also what I thought about Lucy. The only positive I can give is that ScarJo's performance was very good, but it had nothing to back up.

The very premise of the movie is stupid as shit. The whole 10% of our brains thing is complete crap and this has been known for many, many years.

I haven't seen it but wouldn't it be functionally the same as "this potion makes you super powerful", with the 10% thing being more a means to an end?

Yeah, the 10% didn't bother me all that much, except it is super stupid and the movie leans super hard into trying to explain it and make it sound legit. Had it just been " this stuff inexplicably gives you super powers " then that would be fine, but no, it goes full force into bad science babble.

Morgan Freeman plays the world's worst scientist in this movie, and it really wants you to think he is an expert, so it starts with him giving a lecture inside this huge lecture hall full of professional looking students and other science people. And he goes on about how humans only use 10% of their mental capacity, but if they could unlock more cool stuff would happen. At 30%, full control of their own body would be possible, and at 40% control of other people.

Now wait, I hear you asking. Arbitrary numbers aside (really the % breakdown only exists here so you can gradually watch it go up to 100 through the movie) how the hell do you jump from control of your own body, which ok I suppose that seems reasonable, to control of other people? We've got no time for questions like this, because he keeps going. At 90%, full control of matter becomes possible!

HOW?! No reason is ever given, Dr Freeman (not from black mesa) just says it, and a room full of people who claim to have backgrounds in science ahh and nod and clap, clearly impressed.

y'all also realize all the science in jurassic park is also complete bullshit and they spend about 50 minutes justifying it. and every single Marvel movie, too

the how is even less of the point than the villains, sheesh

I'm fine with this kind of thing - as Charlie points out, lots of movies have bad science, but it can be fun or exciting or interesting. Lucy was none of those things.

Swiss Army Man. Truthfully, I'm not sure how I feel about it. It was alternately weird, glorious, uncomfortable, gross, and heartwarming. There's just no easy way to describe this movie.

Daniel Radcliffe is really showing his acting chops, and how much he loves to be in fucking weird movies.

Did he though? He's always played whatever he wants, too. I wouldn't relate the Butler in Clue to RHPS at all, for example.

Or Hunt for Red October.

Or voice acting roles.

Or basically anything outside of RHPS.

Yeah. I was under the impression that Curry was nothing but proud of Rocky Horror. A better example might be Mark Hamill and how long it took him to come to terms with being Luke.

I'm just saying what I read man, either an innacurate source, Tim changed his mind, or I'm from the Bearen-steen universe, all is possible in this horrible multiverse we inhabit.
If I remember correctly, it was Susan Sarandon that disavowed her RHPS role for a long time. I think it was only recently she came around about it, or didn't mind talking about it, at least.
