[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

An online friend of mine just died. She seemed fine just a couple of days ago, writing on Facebook about people at her workplace, and posting photos of her and her husband at a restaurant. And then today, boom, she's gone.

Just like that.

THEN: We're not going to consider you for this low level leading function because you're too highly educated, your profile is better suited to go straight for assistant manager
NOW: We're not going to consider you for this assistant manager function because you weren't selected for a lower-level job back then.

For a company that prides itself on "giving its personnel all chances at advancement" and "lots of options at personal growth at the heart of the company" and all that, I'm really really looking back at my past 8 years at a job below my nominal level and thinking SCREW YOU GUYS YOU BUNCH OF FUCKNUTS.

Had to call off from work today; Yoshi could barely walk. The thought is he either has rheumatoid arthritis, or he tore the tendons in his front paws. Either way, he's miserable and the tests are going to cost $1K next Thursday :(

Guess this is close enough of a place.

We had a worker, our Operations Manager, leave her position basically because her body is falling apart, not helped at all by a huge caffeine dependence and being a hypochondriac. We've spread some of the work out between 4 people just to get by, with the understanding that someone would eventually move up into that position. Word came down today that they were going to do away, as an experiment, with the Ops position. It had already been decided that I was going to be placed in that position because it had been figured out that the only reason the previous person had managed to stay on top of their job was my work. So, no new position, no raise, just more work on a more permanent basis. Really kinda torked about it, but at the same time I hadn't counted on getting the position.

Bud Spencer died today. I dont know if he was well known in the States, but in Germany he was huge.
Big part of my childhood and some of my fondest memories of my dad an me were watching Bud Spencers movies.
Same for me. I guess its a father son thing watching his movies.

Minor rant because...well, you'll see.

Ordered my Vive! Payed the extra $58 to get it delivered the next business day in the AM. Now, you have to be present to sign for it, so I told my boss I was taking Tuesday off. Got my backup ready to do my reports and now I have a 4 day weekend! You'd think that would be epic win, right? Nope. Turns out that I paid for both jack and shit. The Vive ships when they damned well want it to. Until then it's in "processing". Once it's DONE being "processed" then that $58 means that it'll be there the next business day. When will that be? Who the fuck knows.

So I wasted a day off, paid $58 extra to get it sooner, and now don't have shit and won't get it when I'd expected.

Kinda dampens my excitement a bit, you know?

Yeah, I never get next day. Hell, I almost never get 2nd day. It's a ripoff usually.

When your steel belted tire undoes its belt at 70mph the damage is quick and exceptional. Tire still holds pressure, and still has some tread and a portion of the steel belt, but not all. It didn't rip off any of the panel, but pushed it quite a ways upward and did a job on the exhaust system. Also broke a lug bolt removing the tire. Should be able to get a new tire tomorrow and hopefully make it the rest of the way home tomorrow night.

That happened to me, except the tire blew too. Sounded like someone shot a gun in the back seat. It didn't get my exhaust, but my wheel well was pretty mangled.

Worked a scene with a dead body that had been down for about 4 days before he was found. In Georgia heat.

Uniform has already been cleaned, but the smell has permeated my vest, despite Clorox wipes and liberal application of liquid hand sanitizer. The scene was 2 days ago.

No, has plenty of tread. Tire pressure sensor system didn't report out of range pressure or temperature either. As far as I can tell it's just a bad tire.
Tread separation is a real thing. I've only experienced it once myself, and I had warning for a couple of weeks ahead of time...that wheel would vibrate up and down once speeds exceeded 60-ish MPH, and then one day it just blew. Inconvenient thing to happen, but good thing I had a spare and a warranty on the tire cuz the shop just replaced it and I was back on the road.

The post is worth a hug, but at a considerable distance. A very considerable distance. ;)

You need more than just soap/alcohol to remove that kind of odor. Soap/alcohol will dissolve and remove fats, but the rest is going to be protein-/amine-based, and for that you need enzymes (like meat tenderizer) or time. Trouble is, if you soak your vest in enzymes, they might dissolve something important while they're at it, so that's something you will definitely want to research ahead of time.

I seem to recall hearing the meat tenderizer trick somewhere... now, to see if I have any.

Once I get off shift. And have ANOTHER shower.

.... End of shift delayed by a call-milking little fuckstick officer who let me take a found gun report, cleared up from what he was on, then went home.

Words Will Be Said. Roll-call tomorrow is gonna be a donnybrook.

Turns out Imgur is very passive-aggressive in the worst way when dealing with commenters. They don't often ban or suspend anyone... but they very often shadowban and shadow-suspend users. I think I've been shadow-suspended twice now automatically with no moderator action.

What this means is, you will post a comment, you will see your comment but nobody else will. And the site doesn't even tell you this has been done to you. You're just left to talk to yourself in a crowded room and wonder why nobody seems to hear you.

I'm sure this makes for a very low maintenance and low stress management solution for the site admins, but it sure seems spineless and "high-school" to me.
