TIL: Today I Learned

Who's Gwen? And why are theybetting on who she...sleeps with next?
Gwen Stacey. They decided to bring her back and make her into knockoff heroes. Spider-Gwen has been running for a while, Gwen pool had made a few appearances...I think there was another one?

Anyway, Spider-Gwen has had a strong following for a while, but since I'm more of a Mary Jane-fan, I haven't really taken an interest. And to be honest, I wish they had given Gwen her own hero identity, rather than spin-offs.

And as over-blown as she is, I still appreciate that her origin makes more sense than Silk. "OH DUDE-all this time there was a-NOTHER person who was bitten by the spider that bit you-BUT-they were in a secret fortress ALL this time! For forty years!"

And yes I'm counting it as forty years for them, as a firm believer in the theory that Franklin Richards is keeping people young and changing stuff to appear more time relavant sub-consciously.

And really, anyone who doesn't prefer Mary Jane to Gwen Stacy shouldn't be trusted with anything sharper than safety scissors.

I'm pretty sure that Gwenpool is not actually Gwen Stacy but a novel alternate universe character. Fact check me, though, cause I'm not doin' it!

I'm pretty sure Spider-Gwen is actually an alternate universe Gwen Stacy. Gwenpool is alternate universe but a different person named Gwen (literally Gwen Poole or something?. That was my understanding.
According to Wikipedia, Gwenpool is Gwen Stacy (and also answering the other variants I couldn't remember):

Due to the popularity of Spider-Gwen, in June 2015 Marvel published variant covers for 20 of the current series, which saw Gwen Stacy reimagined as other Marvel characters, such as Doctor Strange, Groot and Wolverine.[24] One of those variants for "Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #2" featured an amalgam of Gwen Stacy and Deadpool dubbed "Gwenpool", which turned out to be especially popular with the fans.[25] As the result, Marvel has announced two stories featuring Gwenpool as a character, first as a three-page backup story starting in "Howard the Duck #1", and second as a one-shot "Gwenpool Special #1".[26] In the Howard the Duck #2 backup it was reveled her name is Gwen Poole not Gwen Stacy. Following the publication of the one-shot, an ongoing series by the same creative team was announced, starting in April 2016.
Or she's part Gwen Stacy? I guess? The whole thing was bizarre to me. The only thing I could figure is they were trying to cash in on Emma Stone's role/celebrity.

From the information given, her existence is based solely on fan-service on the two most popular Marvel comcis(emphasis on comics) characters to cosplay as...her book is gonna suck isn't it?

Was there a comic showing what Squirel Girl would look like in the sixties? I feel like there was. Or was her original costume just INSANELY Silver Age influenced?

Edit: Looked it up, looks less Silver Age influence and more...nightmare. She wasn't wearing a mask-WHY DID THEY THINK NO PUPILS WOULDN'T LOOK CREEPY?!

TIL Nigel Planer, who narrated a number of music documentaries for the BBC like Prog Rock Britannia, played Neil, the hippie on The Young Ones.

I knew who Neil was, but I never paid attention to who played him. But now that I know, it all makes perfect sense. :)

A sewn-on buttplug.
I wondered what else this girl tries

TIL spotted dick is a pudding and not....well you know. I thought it was either from disease, or just freckles, it being something NOT penis related was WAY off my guess list.

TIL Blazing Samurai is going to be a thing, an animated samurai comedy film inspired by Blazing Saddles that will feature Mel Brooks...not sure if terrible or not.

While looking for a new band to fill the My Chemical Romance shaped hole in my heart (shut up...you don't know me), I discovered a band called Thirty Seconds to Mars, which is fronted by Jared Leto, who I have never seen acting in anything but am totally digging as a front man.

This is how I know you were not a teenage girl in the 90s.

He's one of those guys where it seems like I have to have seen him in something.

Oh! Oh! While I was typing I remembered American Psycho!

Update: And apparently Fight Club, although I don't remember him in it.
