[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

Another day, another slough of technical problems, time consuming bullshit, and everything exacerbated by not having enough staff. Another week like this one and I'll be ready to stick my head in the oven.

I can tell this isn't a real kendo match, because in a real kendo match the kendoka would be wearing colored strips of cloth on their backs, corresponding to the red and white flags held by the referee. That's how you know who the referee is awarding a point to when he raises a flag.

I've shown this video to our two resident Japanese-style fighters in the SCA. Both are on board for drunken shenanigans. If it gets filmed, I will see what I can do to share the love.

Hell, we already did Viking pillow fights, and that ended wonderfully...

Mother in law was in a car accident last night and broke both wrists.

This is going to be my first major test as a son in law... and as a man.

Holy crap I have no idea what to do.

You should probably start by making sure she gets medical attention...

Seriously though, start by figuring out a plan to make sure everything she will need gets taken care of. Many basic things that seem simple will be impossible without function of hands like eating, bathing and dressing.

Come up with a plan to help her with all of these kinds of things so she doesn't have to worry about it. Delegate as you can but just figure out a plan anyway. Know when she needs to be places, particularly medical appointments and make sure she's got a way to get there.

First things first, make sure she doesn't suspect you. Then carry out your backup plan.

This. Make sure she actually has enough forks and spoons, because chopsticks are going to be impossible.

On today's "Worst Parent Ever" entry: I completely forgot about my son's IEP meeting until 10 minutes after it was supposed to start and I got a call. ON THE UP SIDE, I still made it there.

The worst part is, I'm always the person who is neurotically early/on time for all things at all times. Of course, the year my son's special ed team goes through complete upheaval and everyone is new is the time I look flakey.

At first I thought this was going to be a really interesting round of the hokey-pokey.

My poor wife had to take the first available appointment at her doctor's office and couldn't see her regular doctor (because for the third time in under a year, the doctor she was seeing is no longer at that clinic), and the person she wound up seeing was a Doctor of Osteopathy. She presented with symptoms of strep-throat (100F+ fever for more than 7 days, sore throat with red and white lesions present, swollen glands that are tender to the touch, etc.), and rather than running a culture of any kind, the "doctor" recommended Flonase if it doesn't go away on its own soon; and then refused to refill any of her daily maintenance prescriptions (blood pressure meds, Adderall, sleeping meds, hormone therapy, anti-depressants), because he doesn't believe in medication. Her body is out of balance and she needs a better diet and more exercise, then all of her other symptoms will go away.

Sounds like there's a reason why her regular doctor decided not to stay at that clinic.

Yeah, we're gonna move her to the clinic I use, and the LPN that I see, in a completely different provider network.[DOUBLEPOST=1445646893,1445646829][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah, they've had some administrative changes in the past 12 months and lost a lot of their better doctors and MAs.

So I was thinking this morning that since I live alone now, I should probably hide a spare key somewhere around my house in case I'm ever stupid enough to lock myself out and HEY GUESS WHAT HAPPENED JUST A FEW HOURS LATER.

Minor rant because my mom has a copy and is on her way over, but I'm sitting here in shame for now.

Hiding a key in a "clever" or "unique" or whatever location is the number one way to get burgled. Far better to give a key to someone local you know and trust.

Hide a spare house key in your car.
Then hide a spare car key in your house.
It's MUCH more difficult to lock yourself out of both at the same time.
This is not an attempt at a challenge.

...maybe it isn't as difficult as you'd imagine. Like when your car is in your garage and your keys are in your car and your garage is locked. That's a completely hypothetical situation of course :(

Anyway, I'm in the house now so all is well for the time being.
