We had one that was accepted like 6 months ago, and it still hasn't been published. What's more, the editor won't return emails. This is a big journal in our field, too, not some fly-by-night publication. Weird.

We recently had one that sat with a journal for 10 weeks and we were gnashing our teeth. I can't imagine 6 months!

Some journals are moving more toward grouping papers by theme per month. So your paper might fit better in the issue they plan on producing three months from now with other papers that are somewhat related more than normal for that journal.

I used to get excited about them when I was in NJ. Here in HI I am inconvenienced and a bit worried about them. It feels like it's been raining for almost the whole month of September.

The effect of a tropical storm can be either mild or devastating though. I mean TX is no stranger to tropical weather. But, then you can get something like Allison, which is "just" rated as a tropical storm, but manages to drop tons of rain in all the wrong places.

Well, it was "just" a tropical storm because it's wind speed wasn't sufficient to make it a hurricane. It was still a massive low pressure system with lots of water to drop.

I guess that depends on who you ask. Literally every traveler passing through the USA (even not stopping there...Idiots) is forced to leave his luggage essentially unlocked except for those TSA locks. If any lockpicker can print up a master key, that means they can freely pickpocket/steal whatever they want - and it also means leaving a suitcase or bag "locked" is no longer enough to be sure no-one snuck drugs or other nastiness inside.

I solve this problem by carrying valuables on my person. Hell, even before the TSA was a thing I was taught to never ever ever put anything you don't want stolen in your luggage. Anytime something is going out of your sight, there's a risk of it being stolen. I also believe someone mentioned in the article that the locks were hilariously easy to pick anyways. Sure, not the point, but realistically, it's smarter to expect people to be dishonest than risk putting expensive things in your luggage.

P'hahaha, Jake and I were talking about movies, and he can *never* remember Neil Patrick Harris' name.

He was agonizing over it for several seconds and finally burst out with, "damnit, you know, awesome three-named gay guy!" I guess you had to be there, but he said it in such an old man way that it made me giggle.
