Ever get a bad case of "the feels" when you look at something? I was in a Goodwill store and I saw a stack of Artemis Fowl books and it struck me that this kid is just the right age he must be taking off for college. Kind of choked me up in a "Cat's in the Cradle" kind of way.

I just became familiar with the Berenst#in Bears problem, and it kinda fucked with my perception of reality. If you don't know about it, Google it, and be prepared to have your mind blown...maybe.

Either that or we're just duplicates of the previous reality and we merely THINK we are from the original reality as a cheap way of keeping our individuality as people, as the thought of another person exactly like us makes us go INSANE prompting us to have an eternal death-match with our duplicate in a realm beyond time and space!

Eh I can be the voice of dissent. I remember as a kid wondering why it was stain and not stein. I assumed it had to do with all the Christian overtones, amd not wanting the audience to assume they were Jewish.

Ditto. Pretty much all of the Mandela Effect is either explained by errors in reporting (and people never seeing/reading retractions/corrections) or misremembering. I have memories of scenes in films that don't exist. Doesn't mean I'm from an alternate universe, just that I probably dreamed those scenes afterwards and my mind inserted them in the real thing.

That said, I'd have sworn Chartreuse was a type of dark burgundy red. Huh.

Here I thought we were talking about the indoctrination of "dumb dad" media at a young age.

Mind blown. I really remember it as the "Berenstein Bears". Their book, "Inside, Outside, Upside Down" was the book I used to teach myself to read when I was four. Mind blown.

It's also because "stein" is a common surname suffix. From what I've read, human memory works a lot like JPEG compression: if there's already something committed to your long term memory that's close enough, your brain categorizes it as that. That's why eyewitness accounts suck, and why the robber looks like President Nixon.

I swear to god there are books somewhere at my grandparents' houses that say Berenstein. I remember calling them berenstein when I was little, and then when their TV show started and they started saying "stain" I distinctly remember thinking "those TV idiots are saying it wrong."

You've shifted from a parallel universe. In this universe, it's spelled with an "a", so the books you'll find at your grandparents house will be spelled with an "a". ;)

So I just went to check my collection (all from various parts of the 80's) and all of them say "Berenstain", just like the authors' names. I wonder if the ambiguity is from the Berenstain Bears cartoon that ran on Saturday mornings in the mid-to-late 80's. I still have the Happy Meal toys based off the show.

Actually the couple that wrote the books were just named Berenstain, and the bears were named after them.

I wouldn't be surprised if my argument still applied, just further in the past.
I think that had more to do with European naming styles. My maiden name (which is German/Dutch in origin) is very commonly Jewish, yet there is no history of Judaism in our family tree. The Berenstains were alumni of my university and all things we had about them indicates that was always the spelling.

From what I read, it was an Ellis-islandism of Bernstein. They came from ukraine and the pronunciation was wierd.
I can vouch for something of this nature. My actual family surname, before coming into Ellis Island (this was in the late 1930s) was Braun. After Ellis, it's Brown.

I had lunch with my ex today. It probably wasn't a great idea, but whatever. I really wanted to see her.

Why is this not in the whine/rant/bigrant thread? Because apparently Montreal chased world class piece of shit/rapist Roosh V out of their city with gusto so I feel pretty good overall. Fuck that piece of shit. Toronto needs to do the same now and hopefully it will. The man is literally one of the biggest pieces of human trash that has ever lived.

He's not a rapist. He just thinks that rape is ok. Gawsh.

Holy shit. I had never heard of that guy until you named him. So I googled him. He actually, literally wants to make rape legal. Beyond unbelievable.

Hey how well do CD repair kits work? I found this scuffed up "Marvel Vs. Capcom 2" for the Dreamcast in this box of CDs and want to play it and fight that weird lava hound again.

I'll take that as a "not so well".
Honestly? Go to your local movie/video game rental place (like I have Family Video around here). Rent something and then ask if they'll re-surface a disk for you. They might charge you a few bucks, but it'll go through an industrial grade resurfacing device and that's probably your best bet for getting it done right.

I've done it before on PSX games and it's worked fine.

He's written about commiting date rape where he uses twisted arguments to justify it. He's literally a rapist.
Oh wow I never thought he'd actually admit that. Though I guess she was a slut or should've accepted the honor of fucking him or something. I try not to read his stuff frequently. I just know he was the face of "the red pill", but eventually decided they weren't extreme enough (and they're still horribly awful people).

...HOW DID I FORGET THIS SONG?! Or more accurately, how COULD I forget this song? Instant...flash-backs...painful nostalgia...AWAKENING!

Very good, TO BANDIT VIDEO GAMES!

Was a big deal here. He had speeches boomed and the mayor made sure that shit didn't happen.
