[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

The part that Yahtzee had a problem with is the fact that (in the single player campaign) you can still "arrest" people after you're kicked off the force.
I haven't played the game, but I wouldn't have an issue with this. In most states, regular citizens can arrest someone if they witness them performing a felony. Some states allow arrests even for misdemeanors. And some states (like California) allow for citizens arrest for felonies, even if you didn't witness it.

edit: on the other hand, and after watching Yahtzee's video, yeah, it's kind of dumb to let you arrest people when you're on the run from the cops.

What he means though, is that there is an "arrest" button that is basically a special melee takedown that lets you both non-lethally eliminate someone with an outstanding warrant with handcuffs, and get a points bonus for doing so. You flash your badge, which may stun the target (so long as you make your intimidation roll or whatever), and then cuff them and arrange for a pickup. I haven't played it myself, but Yahtzee makes it sound like they forget to turn off/alter this process when you've stopped being a cop, and makes for what could be called the video game version of a continuity error.

So, a while ago I applied for a job with a political party (no, not the crypto-communists, shut up). I actually passed the written exams and I'm through to the last round by now. This part is not the rant, despite my nerves and self esteem issues likely sinking the boat.
I have to give a presentation on a topic I'll be sent on Friday evening, so that all people who have to make this presentation have a "similar time" to prepare - the interviews are on Tuesday. I work all weekend, so I'm screwed, but that, as well, is not really my issue (though it won't help).
It's an interview with a couple of ministers and fraction leaders in both the regional and national parliament. Neat, though it doesn't exactly help the whole nervousness thing.
The job itself really seems like something I'd like to do - studying options and reports and whatnot and relaying synopses of them to the relevant party members/committee members/etc.
Problem #1: while I agree with this party on a lot of subjects, I'm finding that on the topic for which I'm interviewing - cultural institutions, subsidies, youth, media - I hold an almost diametrically opposed point of view from their.
Problem #2: I just discovered my direct superior would be someone I knew back at university - he was in another fraternity, and the very picture of a fils-a-papa fratboy who got by on daddy's money, daddy's influence, and daddy's name (daddy's a Minister of State). He hasn't done or achieved anything on his own, landing a cushy job in daddy's political party. He's also someone I had several spats with and I told him how I felt about him quite a few times way back when. Sure, it's been over 5 years, but....well, he may remember me, or he may not - either way, working for him? Urk.

Aristotle once said, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

But then again, "Aristotle" can be rearranged to spell "a loser tit" so you may want to take his suggestions with a grain of salt.

Just finished calibration on 2000 ft lb torque wrench. Muscles all jacked up from the strain and shaking.

Next rush job? Handling weights of 1 gram.

This is the worst flu I've had in about 6 years (I had a worse one the year H1N1 was going around). There have been more phases to this flu than to a SquareEnix final boss fight. (And, please, someone come up with a better example of a series that stereotypically has multi-phase boss fights.)

On an unrelated note, but possibly exacerbated by my brain being flu addled, I do not understand feminist women who would not ask a guy out on a date. I've known at least one, who is interested in men, and has explicitly said that she won't ask a guy out.

Got my new SSD to go in my computer. It's much faster and more power-efficient.
Why is this in the minor rant thread?
There is a firmware update available for it, and I should install that before doing my OS and stuff because installing drive firmware updates usually erases the drive. Only one problem, I can't run it from USB, has to be a CD. I don't have a blank CD with me. The hotel lobby doesn't carry them. The 7-11 down the street doesn't carry them. I'm to the point where I'm actually willing to pay someone something like $5 for a single CD-R at this point, but anybody who might carry one appears to be closed.
Guess I'll just have to wait until tomorrow.
I hate waiting.
Grr...

Just got back from my first softball game for my work. It...wasn't pretty. The team we played was supposed to be in a higher, more competitive league than the one we are in, which is a "beer league", but they missed the deadline for that league and had to settle for a non-competitive league. They smoked us like we were wild ducks. This is only a minor rant because as much as I like to win, I also knew our team was a bunch of office workers who were average in age in their 30's and most of us hadn't played in years. Decades in a few cases. I got up to bat once and got a hit so I have that going for me. But the lower-20s athletic team beat us by the mercy rule. And by mercy I mean "oh god, oh god we're going to crash".

"I got a hit! I got a hit! Oh shit... that means I have to run the bases..."

Dang bad storm passed through last night tornados hail, rain, 72mph wind. Knocked part of my fence down. It's an easy fix but it means that when I get off work today I'll have to go work on the house tonight, blah

Update: talked my mother into taking me to see a doctor on Saturday. Diagnosis: Bronchitis, Pharyngitis, Sinusitis. Got a steroid shot, antibiotics and prescription cough medicine. I'm still coughing today, but I'm able to sleep longer than short burts again, and I've seen overall improvement. Holy shit, I'm still really tired though.

Good grief. Glad you went to the doc!

I was at a party Saturday night. There is a single woman that comes to these little get togethers. But anytime I spend more than 2 minutes talking to her, one of the other women come and drag her away. It is getting to be epic level Cock-Blocking. After the 3rd time it happened that night, I kinda lost it and left. I got home and texted my best friend who was still at the party about how pissed I was that it keeps happening. Then a really bad storm rolled through, and I lost power. Thank God the temperature dropped into the comfortable range. My brother called during the storm. He said he was pretty sure that I'd still be up at 11:00pm on a Saturday. After I got him off the phone and found my way to bed in the dark. Sleeping with out power really sucks for me because of my Sleep Apnea. No power, no CPAP.

I wake up the next morning no power. I sleep in a little bit. Then I start checking on the house. every.. damn... room... I... walk into... I try to turn on the damn lights. I get a robo-call from my power company at 9:00am saying that they found the issue and the power will be back on at 2pm. I thought well, that is a little late but it won't be too hot in the house and I don't have to go to anyone's home to keep me and the dog cool. At 10:00am I get another call saying the power will not be back on until 10:00pm. "Shit! how am I supposed to get my stuff ready for work in the morning?" 11:00am the power came back on!!!!

Minor rant: I've had horrible dizziness, headaches, nausea and vertigo for the past week.

Random Crap: I went to the doctor today and in addition to a prescription and blood work she gave me advice..I need to eat more salt and raise my blood pressure. For real. At least I had a witness and didn't hallucinate that part.

"For starters, you need to increase your fast food and caffeine intake. Also, I'm going to show you how to take these leaves, roll them up in a piece of paper, light one end on fire, and breathe it in. I know it sounds dangerous, but you'll get used to it eventually."

It's not so rare. I have two friends with low blood pressure issues. One tends to carry around a salt licking block (as you'd give to cows, yes, seriously, just a bit smaller), while the other just makes sure to eat a lot of chips. Neither's exactly what the doctor ordered :p but both seem to work.

My wife can have all the salt that she wants, she has chronic low blood pressure, plus, due to her Lupus she has to take a massive dose(60000mg) of Vitamin D once a week.
