I want to make some kind of joke about how police cause violence, even if it's as a victim, but that's too good of a story and I don't want to ruin it with anything that might accidentally be taken seriously. So I'll just oblique it.

I like how when a police officer gets shot, the media emphasizes SEVEN TIMES WITH 14 ENTRY AND EXIT WOUNDS!!! MY GOD THE HORROR!!!" and when a suspect or unarmed person or even convicted criminal is shot, it's just like, "gunned down".

Actually, the whole point of my post was that, for the most part, the media isn't saying anything about this at all.

Also, the emphasis on how many times/how bad the injuries are is mostly, in this case, to emphasize how amazing it is that he survived and is recovering.

Garbage collector given 30 days in jail for picking up the trash too early in the morning, waking grumpy white people. But don't worry, he can serve those 30 days on the weekends, so he can still work during the week so that the garbage still gets picked up.

The city used to fine the company for picking up too early. Now they just toss the person following orders into the clink... yeah makes sense.

Doing a little more looking around confirmed what I initially suspected about Sandy Springs, GA - it is an affluent "white flight" suburb of Atlanta that, after being blocked for years by democrats, finally incorporated itself as a separate entity when republicans came to state power in 2004. Median household income is $106,240 (and average household income is 10k higher).

It does when you consider preventing the company from picking up the trash (as is in their contract) could lead to a lawsuit against the city for preventing them from discharging their duty. Basically, it's ether make sure the drivers don't do it this way or risk paying millions in penalties for breech of contract.

It's an exurb and I've driven through there before. Nothing but white people and their brown/black gardeners and housekeepers... which is typical of an exurb. I guess it's nice if you don't care about not having basic services within walking distance or anything to do without driving into Atlanta proper.

Back to police overreach:

Mississippi House Bill 1261 will allow police to enter your home and murder your dog if it's a "dangerous breed" (ie pit bull) and on a leash longer than 3 feet (which is considered to be "unrestrained"), even if it's in a chain link fence enclosure on your property, if you don't have a large "BEWARE OF DANGEROUS DOG" sign. You are also required to have a liability insurance policy with a $100,000 single incident amount in case your dog bites someone.

Also, if the police even think you have a potentially dangerous dog: "In order to determine if there is a violation of this section, a law enforcement officer, at any time, may enter the premises where a dangerous dog is kept, or is believed to be kept, for an on-site inspection of the premises."

I'm glad for the people of mississippi that the "Cops can kill your dog if they want" bill is dead. I'm even more glad for them that they have a legislature that still listens to its constituency.
