*sighs, turns over "DAYS SINCE LAST MASS SHOOTING IN AMERICA" sign to 0*

Yeah a couple of weeks ago a driver pulled out pretty close in front of me, then straddled two lanes for nearly a city block, and never sped up past 20 MPH in a 40 zone. I honked as I passed him with half my car in the left turn lane. And because of his shitty driving I get stuck at the light. He eventually pulls along side me, staring. I look up and he flips me off, I return the gesture. He looks shocked, and flips me off again. Again I return the favor. He hops out of his car and walks to my window, I roll it down enough for him to get a hand in, in case he wants to fight. He proceeds to call me a "Punk Ass Nigga." I damn near laughed. He said that he did not pull out in front of me, so I should not have honked at him. I told him he did. Then his friend pulled him back to his car before he did anything else stupid.

Someday I'll see that (more than just this and the rhythm scene).
Side note: Look! Oil in actual cans!
Also: Thanks, I needed a refresher on just how brilliant Steve Martin is.

I'm thinking this doesn't fit the category. Mass shootings to me seems more like some random dude shoots up a school. This is more like the Warriors or an episode of Sons of Anarchy.

This will likely be a hard week to ride a bike while wearing gang colors. There was a threat that a gang is going to shoot rival gangs that are flying their colors. And the police in this state are looking for people coming in from out of state to cause more problems.

Unless the mass stands for massacre instead of "a lot of," it fits the subject.

Not to be Charlie about this, but as much as it might remind you of a movie or TV show, it actually happened. If we're going to talk about this society we're living in when it involves gun violence and people getting killed, it should still be included when multiple sides are doing the killing. I don't see how the subjects of this topic aren't related to this situation, except this one is less likely to make people gasp in horror since gang shootings are considered normal and expected--which is also bad.

I think the argument is that this event is more like the clash of two (or more) opposing factions in a bona fide battle rather than what I usually expect to find in this thread, which is when a party (or parties) decide to harm people who were unaware that they were going to be selected as targets.

You would think wouldn't you? And yet apparently some asshole at my work (an oil refinery) came in sporting some banditos gear. I think it was a belt buckle or a patch. Either way. Doing that at a site with security this high? Yeah....decent chance he gets fired if the wrong person sees it.

And really, the definition of "mass" used lately is so loose it is applied even when only 2 people are shot.
I think my mistake was targeting the word mass, when I should've seen the difference as the word shooting. This was a more shootout, so maybe that's where Dave saw the difference.

Shooting in South Carolina at a black church. The alleged shooter - Dylann Roof - sat in a prayer meeting before opening fire, killing 9 (3 men, 6 women). He let one woman go "so she could tell the world what happened".

I don't get people sometimes, man.

Evil is a thing that actually exists, not just on TV and in books.

Yeah, but they say this was racially motivated and like half of his Facebook friends are black. How does one go from having black friends to shooting a black church because of race?

I know there's a website that tracks mass shootings, which it counts as "4 or more people, including the shooter". That seems to be a reasonable line.

Yeah, I almost updated this the other day when the Marines were killed, but updating this thread is just depressing.

My home. I called everyone I know, no one I know was hurt. No word on who the shooter was yet. Three dead now.

My house in Lafayette was a block away from that theater. The kids and I biked there in the summer for movies.

I suppose that, as a society, we've decided that frequent mass-murders are an acceptable price to pay so that ammosexuals can inadequately resist imaginary jackboots and theoretical tyranny.
