There's only been one DC movie in this "continuity", right? And wasn't it finished before they really penciled in these ambitious plans? And if they get David Ayer as writer/director, then I'm making assumptions based on the previous quality of everything he's done. Not to mention the pedigrees of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy, Jai Courtney, etc etc etc
Because DC has burned us many times in the past and while not all the Marvel Studios films (important distinction) have been hits, they have not been misses. Marvel Studios has built up characters in solo films allowing them space to breath and develop in their own element before they have a big team-up. DC is almost the exact opposite and the Suicide Squad movie is a perfect example of their methodology.
And too be fair, I at least am very critical about the non-Marvel Studios Marvel movies.... looking at you crappy Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four.
I'm not overly - thrilled with Zack Snyder being envolved, even as producer. He's proved to be more about flash than substance. And though I like Will Smith, his choices have been hit-or-miss lately. His pedigree isn't what it once was.

Considering how much Jamie Foxx absolutely killed it, I think we're all lucky.
I'm pretty sure he was the villain in After Earth... mostly for making that movie.
Villain roles are usually the roles that define actors... but this can also be a double edged sword. Mark Hamill USED to be type cast because of his role in Star Wars... right up until he did the Joker for Batman: The Animated Series. Now he's been type cast as THAT, which is why he stopped doing it. Going back to Luke at this point actually sounds appealing because it's getting him away from voicing villains.
Jack Nicholson hasn't done a normal or heroic role since the Joker in Batman.
Heath Ledger is probably going to be remembered as the Joker more than as a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain or any of his other roles.

I get what you're saying, and I can sort of agree, but I have a nit to pick - About Schmidt (2002). Jack Nicholson played a completely relatable everyman retiree. Also, I think his string of playing the unhinged reaches back further than Batman, to the Shining.

If they let Ayer do this how he did Fury, color me interested. Outside of that, I'm still pretty on the fence about the whole thing. Not totally against it, but I honestly don't know Suicide Squad as well as I do other DC properties, I only know them as individuals, not a team.

To that Oprah thing - she's actually a really talented actress, before her kind of... becoming OPRAH and overshadowing that.

Aquaman's gonna take over Westeros?
So, Aquaman looks pretty dope. Just like Wonder Woman, the picture is washed out in colour, but you can see that his pants are green.

Jason Mamoa as Aquaman is one bright spot in the WBCU I'm really looking forward to. If I wind up seeing Superman v Batman, it'll be for Jason Mamoa's Aquaman.

I just don't care anymore. DC and WB have done the impossible: they've made me feel apathetic for seeing The Justice League on the big screen.
I have no interest in seeing this and kinda hope it fails so they have to rethink how to market their superheroes.

Some comic book artist once said that the more realistic you make a superhero the less believable them become.
Aquaman can breath under water, survive the massive pressures at the bottom of the ocean and control marine life. If we can suspend disbelief enough to swallow that why does he need realistic armour?
A great showman and philosopher once said if people wanted to watch people dressed normally fight they would turn around and watch the cheap seats.
Why not go crazy and have some wicked colours?
