What are you playing?

That's a tall claim to make. Are you confident the gameplay will support it, long-term?

Yeah, it may have been a pretty over the top claim, but....I still say it's amazing. I don't think I've played another game as deep. The only real problem with it is that the AI is not particularly good, but really this game is meant to be MP. The cool thing is that since you don't control your units in the combat phase (like in Deadlock) you can 'play by mail'. There is a third party that maintains servers for this game, and people will play 1 turn a day or two. There are people that have been playing a single MP game for years.

That reminds me of when myself and a few others in the family/friends circle started a multiplayer game of freeciv, with turn timeout set to 48 hours. It took months, but I eventually won.

Transistor. As with Bastion, the music, art and voice-acting are top tier. The combat is different, and takes some getting used to, but turns out to be fun once you've opened a few moves. It feels a little slower and clunkier than Bastion, unfortunately, but all in all I'm enjoying it well enough so far.

That's my impressions just watching it played. I'm torn whether to pick it up or just wait for the inevitable sale.

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed it's not the same combat style as Bastion, as that was just so much fun. This one's almost like some weird mix of turn-based combat and real-time, it's really weird to explain. I like it, but I don't love it like I did Bastion's. Nowhere near as fluid and fun. I just want my Kid Rages For Awhile moments back.[DOUBLEPOST=1400836943,1400836865][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, it's only 20 bucks so really a sale that takes more than 3-5 dollars off is probably aways off on Steam, at least, unless we get a big Summer Sale this year.

I'm nearly finished with Skyward Sword, and I think I'm just going to drop it. It's not a bad game, but it's severely disappointing for a Zelda title. I feel like the console releases have only gone downhill since Wind Waker, and haven't learned much of anything from the mistakes that game made, and have added in some new annoyances.

I'm nearly at the end of the game. I haven't done any of the boss rush mode, never earned the Hylian shield, never went to bug island, I just burnt out on all the crappy little annoyances that really shouldn't be in a game that puts so much polish into other things. Also, the motion controls are crap. Flying is a chore (and this from someone who didn't mind sailing in either Wind Waker or Phantom Hourglass, not even train travel in Spirit Tracks is as annoying as flying in Skyward Sword).

My list of grievances:
  • Dammit, stop telling me about every item pickup each game session. I do not need to see the description or watch the count go up on my item screen. I am fully capable of entering the screen myself to see what items are. This is bad game design.
  • Motion controls are crap. I can't count the number of times my bird started veering off in a strange direction after flapping to get higher.
  • The shop interfaces are awful, and needlessly tedious. Especially the system for buying advanced potions. No, no, no, no, no. It should not take this long just to buy a damn potion. It also shouldn't be so hard to sell off excess supplies.
  • The upgrade system is poorly thought out and feels tacked on.
  • This game feels tedious. There are numerous spots in the game that just feel like busywork. Long strings of claw-shot travel for no reason. Lots of slow-paced collecting of components (made even slower by "hey, you got this (again), watch where it goes in your inventory (again)"). Boss fights that just drag on and on in the same repetitive actions. Etc.
  • Motion controls are really crap. They get confused by fast motion, which slows down combat to the point of being clunky, and even then I did not have enough time to be slow enough for the controls to consistently recognize my movements correctly.
  • Flying is a chore. Flap the remote. Dip and glide, holding your hand in an awkward position in order to dive to gain speed. Keep diving because you go slow as molasses unless you're diving.
I'm judging it very harshly because it's a Zelda game, and I know it can be better than this.

I was gonna argue, but then I thought about it and you're right. All the good stuff I'm remembering has been handheld games or remakes like Ocarina of Time 3D or Wind Waker HD. Even though there were annoying bits to Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, they were small and occasional. They certainly didn't dominate the game like in Skyward Sword.

Twilight Princess was really underwhelming. Still had some fun bits, but they worked really hard to railroad you in that game and I felt it with each part.

So I just bought Warhammer 40k: Space Marine via Steam, with all the DLC. I like Exterminatus mode (co-op multiplayer) even though I suck at it. The single player campaign has a really epic feel and Captain Titus makes the Ultramarines seem awesome instead of dull and pedantic.

It's a pretty sweet game, and gets the feel of space marines right. You are a one man engine of destruction.

XCOM Enemy Within: On a mission escorting an EXALT operative with vital information. I decide to take us through the department store to reach the drop zone--seemed safest.

At one point, an alien drops onto the roof. I have my wife's friend, a heavy, aim at the roof to blow it up from within. Alien blows up ... but the sphere also catches my friend and kills her. This panics my cousin, who then shoots the VIP in the face with a shotgun. Mission failed.

And I'm playing Ironman mode, so no do-overs. Good job, team.

Next mission, a floater zooms over the defense lines and one-shots my wife. She's taking a nap ... she's not gonna be happy.[DOUBLEPOST=1401141035,1401140868][/DOUBLEPOST]XCOM Enemy Within: On a mission escorting an EXALT operative with vital information. Taking a couple days off FFXIV to play the FFX/X-2 remaster. Working my way through FFX again, and enjoying it. I had forgotten how awful some of the voice acting is.

Tropico 5. A lot of the old charm from its predecessors is back. It is basically still the same game as 4, but it is still a lot of fun.

I've played 3 and it's EP to death, own 4 but haven't played it yet...Simply no time. I'll pick up 5, gladly and happily, once I've played some 4.

Every time I sit down at the comp ready to play some FFXIV, I start thinking about how I could be making more progress in FFX HD instead. Almost out of Via Purifico.

Eh, I had no problems. Apparently a lot of the cracked copies had a backdoor put into them, so they may have had an easier time, but far worse consequences. But, you really would have to be an idiot to install an unknown executable on your computer.
