Minor victory thread

I didn't kill any children today. Nor did I tell any parents that tye were stupid.
Sometimes, that's a major win.

The first time I was working in a particular living unit (aka "cottage") with another staff - one that had just opened, and the staff who had just started as a YC after "promoting" from the job of chaplain - that "The roof's still standing, the building didn't burn to the ground, and we're walking out of here intact. Sometimes that's the best you can do in this job."

I just figured out how to manipulate individual bits of text in my comic-making app, which should make all future Supervillainous strips a bit more readable, as my characters will now be able to emphasize words and phrases. Plus, the app updated today, and a new feature allows for a hell of a lot more speech bubble manipulation, too. Very, very happy.

I made some home made peanut butter cups with soy butter instead of peanut butter. I am happy to say that they turned out fantastic!!

An old man at work today gave me a Chick Tract. It's an actual, real life Chick Tract. I'd never seen them in the wild before, I thought they were a thing of myth!

Heh, I haven't been given a chick tract since I was a preteen. I'm amazed they're still around.
"Everything you like is sin and you'll burn in hell! Go to church like a good boy!"

It's weird. I've known about them forever, I've seen them reproduced online, but I never thought of them as actually existing, in the world, given out by old men. It's like finding a unicorn. A bigoted unicorn.

None of these are epic, but it's been a stack of minor wins all day. I changed my plan to one of those new AT&T family plans. Lowered my bill by ~$50/month with no loss of services. Got a note from Comcast. Internet speed now ~100Mbps for same monthly cost. Get to work and find I have a trainee for the night. All I need to do is stand there and see if he has any questions.

Payday is in a couple of hours, and my weekend starts at 8am. Go me.

They still hand those out at Port Authority in NYC. They had a table that stood right in between the buses and the subway entrances so they could scream at any commuter who was just trying to get to work. I really don't miss that every morning.

That brings back some sad memories from my childhood.

My dad is a pastor and he would (and sadly still does) give/leave those everywhere. He would leave them with his tips, leave them on cars, hand them to random people, place them in bathrooms, etc, etc.

I was given one a number of years ago. I think I was on my way home from work/church. At least one of my friends from seminary has a bunch of them. They are so so so dumb, have no scriptural basis, and are just generally perceived as crap (at least by clergy-types in my circles).

Today's minor win: I've got my voice back! Just in time for the busiest weekend of the year so I can blow it out again.

Since I can't do multiple ratings, here is also a <hugs> and a <brofist>.

They were great if you had a set of erasers and some time to write a new script.

My son is six. He's also pretty gifted athletically, so much so to the point that he's playing baseball up a division, and was still doing so well, the coach of the 8-year-old travelling team asked if he'd be willing to come play for their team today. Not only did he play, but he was one of three kids on the team to make a defensive play to cause an out. Hitting was a bit rough, but considering that was the first time he actually ever faced live pitching, it was understandable.

What I found hilarious, though, was how much difference in height there was between him and everyone else on the field. I mean, he's tall for a 6yo, but not at all for 8.

Everyone mistakes my 7th grader son for a high schooler (he's as tall as most average Juniors). I know where you're coming from.

Just ordered a new photo camera off Amazon. Surfing around carefully just saved me well over $100 on a (now $250 camera. That's ridiculous. Amazon.co.uk is almost €40 cheaper than Amazon.de. In both cases, for delivery in Belgium, so taxes are the same....Wut?
Anyway, whoo, new camera. version without GPS, sicne I never used it in my old one anyway and that was another €50 difference.

I got a several hundred dollar check from my health insurance!

...To pay the balance billing the hospital is doing. So it's just like if they paid the hospital directly, except I get to hold that money for a nice - brief - moment before having to give it away again. Still, insurance is covering what it's supposed to be covering, so that's good.

Made out with a girl last night at a party. She said things along the lines of "I'd make out with you sober" and things like she tooootally wanted to do "it" but that didn't happen. (Definitely for the best.)

ANYWAY that's a minor victory for me because I'm finding out I actually get a good bit of female attention recently, and that's weird and new for me.

I don't know if it's really a "win" if she had to be under the influence first, but I would definitly avoid "doing it" with someone you don't know or just met who isn't sober. It can very easily and quickly lead to things like rape accusations and other repercussions. You may want to stick to sober partners to be on the safe side.

I was pretty damn gone too, so my judgement really wasn't the best. But I have known this person for a few years. However, thank you for your concern and advice. :)

I made a twitter joke involving Dana Gould.

Dana Gould is now following me on twitter.

As a comic nerd, this freaked me out a little bit.

Won a Man-E-Faces from my local comic store as a door prize on Free Comic Day.[DOUBLEPOST=1399140882,1399140849][/DOUBLEPOST]2000s not 80s.

For the first time, since April 10, I don't have a backlog of work at work. More will arrive while I'm off this evening, but I won't have anything that is "behind."

Fresh fruit for lunch! I loves me some fresh fruit for lunch in the spring/summer. If I could, I'd go the entire time eating just fruit and veggies for lunch, with maybe some good cheese thrown in, or some left-over grilled meat.

My son's coaches are great guys. The head coach sent texts to my husband on Thursday evening, Friday, and Saturday morning to make sure Noah was ok. When we got to the field on Saturday afternoon the head coach and both assistants came over to look at him, with the head coach offering to let him sit out if he wasn't feeling up to playing (he was fine). They asked us if we had him checked for a concussion because the hit he had taken during practice had concerned them. I was pretty impressed since most coaches I've known would ask once if he was ok, then go about their business.

On a side note, in the text on Friday the head coach told my husband he was glad Noah was ok since he's central to their defense. He's the linebacker they almost always send in for the pass rush & blitz plays.

Did this...

and this...

to my turntable without destroying it. Sounds pretty good now. Even with the preamp disabled, there's still a couple of capacitors (lower right of the circuit board) in the signal path. Not any more.
