After being spammed with commercials for claimyourcash.org I decided to see if I actually had any money out there. Got a check in the mail today for $400+. No clue who owed me that much money, but I'll certainly take it.

And now we discover... Gared was a plant all along.

Tonight is derby prom, where we derby it up in the tackiest prom dresses we can find. I had a dress but I was not super happy with it. Then today I found the greatest dress ever for $9 at Ross. Scooore!

We must have pictures of this atrocity.

I feel like the only atrocity is that I am too old to wear dresses made for teenagers. No puffy shoulders, it's strapless.

Got back from my renal doctor today, and got HUGE news. Two years ago, it looked like my best prospects were 10-20 years before I'd need a transplant. Well, my numbers have improved and stabilized to the point I might never need one. If I do, medical science probably will have improved to the point where much better treatments will be available.

Basically, lots of worries lifted, and life no longer on hold.

That's terrific news! I'm happy for you. It must be a huge relief.
You have no idea. It felt like I was waiting for the inevitable, that I'd just hit a point a few years down the road where everything I'd worked for would be for naught. I don't feel that way today.

And damn if that don't feel good.

Hm, my friend is medical school, maybe if I put you two in touch he can just, like, grow you a vast supply of reserve kidneys.[DOUBLEPOST=1398453728,1398453678][/DOUBLEPOST]I assume that's what medical students are doing.

I don't really pay attention to him when he talks.

And mine!

On the win front... I submitted the last essay and paperwork detrius for school yesterday, and I picked up my bound thesis today. Woop woop! I think there is now officially nothing that can block me from getting this degree next month or the affiliated certification in June.

Behold - the thesis cover in all its glory!

I think the blue will look very nice next to the burgundy from my other thesis.

What was your other thesis? Is it possible to buy bound copies?

The other thesis was for my Religious Studies MA 4 years ago. The title was... I had to go look it up... "Ancient Words in Modern Times" and looked at how academic and religious folk of different self-identified political persuasions have interpreted Proverbs 8:22-31 over the past 50-60 years.

And I'm not sure what you're looking for in your second question. To get things professionally bound, you need to talk to a bindery (Captain Obvious to the rescue! Sorry, I was being useless). Most universities have an in-house service/press, some shipping places (like UPS) can do binding IIRC, and if all else fails, Staples or equivalent. If you want a copy of the stuff I wrote? (Why, I do not know.) PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy.

My wife is too good for me, seriously.

In her first year of teaching, she started off teaching 8th grade math (the grade level she wanted but she wanted to teach algebra)
Second year of teaching, she's given the algebra class.
As her second year is ending (this year) the the head of the math dept got a promotion to main office and my wife is being offered the dept head position.
In her second year of teaching.
The entire math dept is 100% behind it, everyone is telling her (separately) that she needs to take the position because she'll do amazing.
Her pay is being increased, her stress levels are about the same but different type (no longer having to deal directly with very very dangerous students) and she's glowing.

I'm so proud and feel soooo undeserving.

Got a new job! It comes with a 30% raise (40% once I pass my board certification and after the 90-day probationary period), much better benefits, and regular hours. But the real win is no more travel. I get to be home every night! I get to see my kids grow up! I get to stop spending 70 nights a year in hotels!

The job requires relocating to the northern Detroit suburbs. I understand some of you are in the area - might I pick your brains about some things?

I just moved away from there, but for the moment I still maintain a presence.
Would be interested in knowing which suburb, exactly, as well as where you'll be working (location) if you want some tips about traffic.

Cuuuute! I love it!

I'm going to Wyoming for a week with the coolest bunch of kids ever (and some awesome teachers that I consider mentors). Camping in the mountains, taking water samples, finding animal tracks, and hiking til sundown. I can't wait to get away.

I would suggest hiking until near sundown, easier to set up tents with some sunlight. I've gone too late and unfortunately found uncomfortable things under the bottom of the tent.

This. So many, many times this. And enjoy that awesome trek.

if there was anything that Patrick wasn't able to answer for you ( I know, that's not likely :p ) feel free to ask.
I know not a whole lot about real estate. It's why I got rooked with my current house.
I have learned a lot since then, though. Also I can be a really good geographical resource (traffic patterns, good stores, etc).
