[TV] Winter HAS COME! - A Game of Thrones

I feel like GRRM enjoys them though. Like one of the Victarion chapters ... it's just a summary of him slitting throats, taking ships, telling slaves they're free when he's just making them his own slaves, etc. Probably pretty easy to peck out in one go.

Educated guess on my part but I think Bran wonder-tree powers are how we learn who Jon Snows mother really is.

Probably Robin from HIMYM.

I thought that was shitty because
The death of Ygritte is a great moment for Jon Snow

On the other hand, because on TV everything is more concentrated, so many of these moments may lessen their impact.

Hah, I love that Dawnstar, Morthal, Falkreath and Winterhold get snubbed. If I don't have to zone into a separate cell for you, you're not really a capital city.

Lol to help flesh out all the women in mole town and crasters wives and wildlings, it appears that GoT tapped into the British porn industry. ;)

Well, they tapped into the porn industry long before that. Look up Sibel Kekilli who plays Shae.

Merging Ygritte and Val causes some serious issues for later on:

Book 3 spoilers

At the end of book 3, Stannis offers to legitimize Jon Snow into Jon Stark, make him Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North, and have him marry Val to help seal a peace with the wildlings. Jon refuses because of his vow to the Night's Watch. I don't see him doing that if instead of Val, his bride would be Ygritte. For one, she'd be around the Wall a bunch, and they've gotten used to knocking boots whenever while he was undercover with the wildlings. Second, he'd want to be with her; they've formed a relationship. To stay with the Night's Watch would mean foregoing that forever. He gave up the legitimacy and being Lord of Winterfell and that was already a hard decision, but to throw in Ygritte? That tops it over his oath to the Night's Watch, which he's already broken.

So this is either gonna be stupid or require some huge story consequences which would separate it vastly from the events of Dance.

Not to mention that Ygritte isn't related to anyone, in the show, as far as i recall...

But then again that might just mean they're skipping the offer (which was made because S doesn't understand the wildlings, and was never gonna work) altogether .

I haven't finished season 3, but I don't know if they've laid out Dalla's family tree. It'd be easy to just say she is.

But you might be right. I'd hate for them to skip the offer because even though it wasn't going to work, it's a good moment for Jon. What's not a good moment is how GRRM keeps bringing it up again and again in the first few Jon chapters of Dance.

It's been a while, but as i recall when Ygritte takes Jon to meet Mance she showed no signs of knowing the women there... but then again they didnt name any of them so...

I still hate what they've done to Tyrion's character. They've taken everything he did heroic in the books and made them either nonexistent or an afterthought. Really takes away from what's to come.

Did they? Granted it's been awhile since I've read the books but I'm trying to remember what they changed…

The battle with the mountain clans: In the books, Tyrion grabbed a battle-axe and kicked serious ass, which is when they gave him the name, "Half-Man". In the show they had him knocked unconscious at the beginning and not fight.

The battle at King's Landing: In the books he again went berserk and kicked serious ass, only stopping when he was cut down by guys from his own side because his sister and Joffrey tried to have him killed. In the show, he again went into combat, but instead of the heroic fighter he was, his part was very short and almost an afterthought.

Also, (the only spoilered part)
in the books he never fought with Shea, which made her betrayal that much more hurtful. In the show, he's pushing her away and it's not going to be a shock at all. In the books, she proves that she's a whore, in the show she's just a spurned woman getting back at a lover.

He's a GREAT character and having him do all of these great things
makes his downfall that much more distressing. They are ruining that.

Ah, yeah, I totally forgot about that not being in the book. Honestly my wife and I are both having a hard time remembering whats in the books and whats in the shows.

I like it better this way. Yeah it makes it less of a "wham" but honestly I thought it was poor writing when it happened in the book out of nowhere.

To be fair, in the books Shae was clearly discontent with her situation. She wanted to be pampered, she didn't want to have other jobs, and she obviously resented it.

Agreed. I also feel like they made her a much more likable character in the show, she always irked me in the books.

Summary of episode by Jay

- Start of show, Robbbbbb's special sword gets recast and two swords come from it. Don't remember this from the books. Great addition. Excellent scene between Jamie and Tywin. WHO GETS THE OTHER SWORD??? SUSPENSE.

- Tyrion is now waiting on the road with his merc buddy and sex demon Pid, Pud or Pod. Whatever the fuck his name is. Anyone else pissed on how they absolutely ruined Tyrion in the show? Great actor chops, shitty writing. Martin fucked up a lot of shit in the books but Tyrion was amazing in Books 2-3.

- Prince Durin's actor looks damn solid. REALLY WEIRD START OF THE BROTHEL SCENE. I don't recall his fucking anything with a heartbeat. Why the fuck are they pushing the gay thing so much? Enough. Is that skank kissing him every 2 seconds the wife of the centurion from Rome? She got OLD-ish.... too much make-up... but I'd still... yeah. Season 4 tit count... 2.... 4. Solid start. Excellent end to scene with the Prince and Lannister soldiers.

- Great scene with the Prince and Tyrion. Did I already mention how annoyed I am with Tyrion's character on the show? They make him such a bitch. Now, this is how I wanted to see Prince Durin. I don't know WTF was happening before. Solid acting. Intense. YES.

- Dany is sitting there with her dragons. Great CGI. Is she wearing jeans? Nice walk past her huge army. WTF is this new Daario guy? The last guy didn't have the blue hair but this guy looks like Eric Bana. Couldn't they get that right on the 2nd try? Decent scene.

- Sansa is crying.

- Shea is begging for some half-man cock. Whining about the situation. Tyrion looks incredibly weak again. They ruined his character. Hated this scene. Shea's acting is limiting to "annoyed" and "annoyed by wanting cock".

- Crazy sister and Jamie scene. Jaime is funny. Nice metal hand. Does the crazy sister have any scene anymore without a drink in her hand? GLUG GLUG GLUG. Good scene.

- Wildling scene. Who the fuck are these new guys? I don't remember them. Eating crow? Is that like a pun or something? Weird scene.

- Jon Snow scene. Perfection. Great acting all around.

- Tyrell scenes are always solid. She's so hot it's ridiculous. And I ain't talking about the old bag nor the amazon woman.

- Jeoffry being Jeoffrey. Awesome. Jaime carries another scene.

- Dany is standing there watching the ocean. Is she wearing jeans? New Daario pretending to be Eric Bana. Got the slave part right though. Solid.

- Sansa is crying. Jaime tries to carry this scene enough to let me care about her situation. Godswood scene was solid.

- Hey there's Arya. They almost forgot her. Is this THAT scene finally? About time. Dog and Arya chemistry is perfect. Too bad they can't interpret Arya's thoughts of "let the rain wash the blood off her sword" into this show. Fight scene was awkward as fuck, too bad the dialogue was great. Arya gets her first kill.

All in all, a story building episode. Solid, nothing amazing. I still can't get over how useless they made Tyrion.

I thought it was Ned's sword? Am I remembering incorrectly?

- Wildling scene. Who the fuck are these new guys? I don't remember them. Eating crow? Is that like a pun or something? Weird scene.
They call members of the nightwatch "crows" because they all wear black. "Eating Crow" is an english phrase that means to have to publicly tolerate being wrong. As in, "I said Ron Paul was going to win, now I have to eat crow."

Hey there's Arya. They almost forgot her. Is this THAT scene finally? About time. Dog and Arya chemistry is perfect. In scene was great. Second. Remember, she killed the stableboy waaay back when she escaped King's Landing?

I find it incredibly awkward story wise at all that
Jamie is around for Joffrey's wedding/Sansa still being around
I'm wondering how it will change the story dynamic. Besides a really inappropriate sex scene later.

Errr, if I remember correctly,
Sansa WAS present for Joffrey's wedding. She was the mule used to smuggle in the poison that killed him on her necklace. She and Tyrion get the blame, which leads to... well, the rest of the story.

There is one bit of special effects in TV and movies that has never, and likely will never look good without loads of expensive, difficult CG. Missing limbs. Practically, it always looks terrible.

Forrest Gump seemed to do a pretty good job. But then, maybe that's that expensive, difficult CG you were talking about.
