[PC Game] World of Warcraft: Catch All Thread

I'm on Whisperwind (joined with Dentarg) for Horde. Are you going to make a horde as well? If so, feel free to send me a message :) I'm usually on Isobelle, Squidleybits or Squidgey.

Shit!

They announced this weekend that they are "ending" the Challenge Mode season. I always figured since they scaled down, that Blizzard wouldn't remove the rewards, and I could just do them with others in WoD. SHIT!

Who wants to get some Challenge Mode in this week?

Ugh. I just remembered what it's like to play Blizzard games when one of your prime play-times is Tuesday mornings on the east coast.

No games for me before work. :(

Tell me about it, I'm probably going to make an EU Hearthstone account this week just for mornings like this.

I was like oh, that's right, Tuesday, no WoW... because blizzard is the only online service I know that needs to go down for half a day every week. Well, I'll just play some Hearthstone then and...

......

Fffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuu

So the price for the new character boost was leaked during the new patch release. Looks like it's going to be $60.

I love all the crying. Those that want to use it saying it's too high and no one will buy it, and those that argue versus the option saying it's too low and everyone will get it.

Stay classy, wow community.

Sheesh. That's 4 months worth of subscription time.
Honestly I thought it was going to be higher. They usually price services much higher then usual to act as a preventive measure from constant usage (plus more money from that that do decided to use it, obviously).

Yeah, Blizzard has never really been into -micro- transactions. I mean, they sell mounts for $25.

Oh macrotransactions. I love that we live in an age where a cheat code costs as much as a new game. Wait, no, the exact opposite.

Oh my Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahd all my characters save for like, two, are female Orcs.

They're gonna look so good.

Hopefully WoD in general is interesting enough to get me back.

I have tomorrow morning free to game, this should make up for stupid Tuesday morning maint-

*we will be performing scheduled maintenance on Thursday, February 20th at 5am PST and expect the service to be available again approximately 11:00am PST*

.... Fuck.

Whelp, I was happy to see maintenance ended early. I log in, it downloads a quick little patch, and now I can't connect. It either tells me it can't validate the game version, or takes me to a realm list where all of the realms are red, disconnecting me immediately upon selecting one.

WoW forums show tons of other people having the same problem.

Lovely.

Blizzard snuck in the model for the updated Dwarf female onto the main WoD website. Kind of odd, since Gnome female is still absent and she was shown months ago.

What are these two things?
Once again going the Cataclysm route of making heroics difficult for general players.

The abolishment of Valor Points in favor of only using Bonus Roll coins as "bad luck protection". (AKA, let's make the game even more RNG)

1. From what I've read, they're aiming halfway between Cata hard and Pandaria easy for heroics next expansion. Compared it to the "easier Cata heroics, like Vortex Pinnacle". Nothing like Grim Batol or Stonecore.

2. Looks like they're halving the amount of currencies, not removing them entirely. Valor/Justice combined and Conquest/Honor combined. Just one currency per play style, and that currency will work much like it did in Pandaria (entry-level epics, item upgrades, heirlooms, and 1-2 epics per tier), with the bonus roll taking the place of valor as a "catch-up mechanic".

EDIT: They're also going to be modifying the bonus roll mechanic a bit to make it far less likely to roll an item duplicate to what you already have/have gotten before.

That was the original report months ago. Recent reports have hinted they have taken it further, as Heroic Dungeons in WoD are now going to be on the same gear level as the same tiers LFR. If they leave them easier then it would devalue the LFR. They say those that don't want a "difficult challenge" will have to use the returning level 90 normals.

This depends on how much those currencies actually value. Remember what they did to Justice Points this expansion? They were worthless until recently, and on any type of progression line are still pretty worthless. You can't even get patch 5.2 gear with it. Valor worked because it allowed people outside raids to get gear that worked well inside raids. If they remove it in favor of coins, then it's not a catch-up mechanic, because it requires one to enter raids in the first place to "catch up" for said raids. Since they are removing Valor I don't think they will make Justice Points as valuable, gear acquisition wise, as Valor used to be.

EDIT: They're also going to be modifying the bonus roll mechanic a bit to make it far less likely to roll an item duplicate to what you already have/have gotten before.
Which is not the main problem of this system, which is A) It only can be utilized in raids, and B) It utilizes double RNG.

Harder than LFR isn't much of a roadblock, especially since they're likely going to make LFR ridiculously simple. I could see them balancing as difficult as current Flex raids, which require groups to pay attention to mechanics, but aren't overly difficult by any means.

Like I said, entry-level epic gear, item upgrades, heirlooms, and 1-2 epics per tier is what Valor does now, and I don't see it being much different than that, and that's OK by me.

Preventing getting the same item over again reduces part of the double RNG. Like it or not, Blizzard wants players to get items off mobs, not at a shop completely disconnected from the playing experience.

My main issue with making it all about drops is there is no real way to measure your progress until you actually get a drop. You could go long stretches without seeing any progress at all, which is horribly frustrating. At least with currencies you can see your progress. You watch your balance go up with each run, and you know you're making progress.

Looks like Blizzard is going to give the level 90 boost sooner then the expansion, as a pre-order bonus. So for those that want to come back and do max level content for a bit, but without the process of leveling, you can now if you pre-order WoD.

I keep wondering if WoD will draw me back in, but I just don't know. MoP was a decent effort, much better than Cata, but I wonder if maybe WoW's just not my game anymore.

Looks like the pre-order is available now. I'm not sure if I'm ready to commit to it yet, I'd like to see a bit more of it first.
