[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

Dredd

Still fucking awesome. Really hope we get a sequel.

Movie 43

The trailer for this played before Dredd and my friend demanded I begin downloading this immediately. So we watched it after Dredd.

GOOD LORD what a piece of shit movie. I admit it did get a few (very few) laughs out of me, as some of the sketches in this anthology weren't as bad as most of them, but yeah, it's still horrible. Oddly enough, we managed to make it through watching the whole thing, even though we both agreed afterwards that it was pretty terrible. Pretty forgettable, too, as we actually couldn't even remember half of the skits. But it was like a car crash. It was hard to look away.

HUGE recommendation to avoid like the plague.

Rise of the Guardians: I enjoyed this movie; it was fun and engaging and really pretty.

But, I can't shut out the other works I've read that this seems to borrow from. Some really strong Hogfather (Discworld) references, some from The Sandman, and then stuff I know about the origins of these characters. Yeah, Santa is badass in this movie, but it's hard to see that as impressive when he used to be friggin' Odin before that idea was downgraded from god to folk story.

Still a good movie and maybe it'll be a gateway for kids to eventually check out other works. There's still a lot of originality and depth to how they approach the story, especially with Jack Frost.

A few here:
Crank, Crank 2:
I'm not going to say these are good movies. They aren't. But they did deliver exactly what they promised. Kind of like Just Shoot 'Em Up, in terms of pure stupidity.

Sleepwalk With Me
How can a movie be funny and sad at the same time, so consistently throughout? An odd sort of a movie; it honestly doesn't even have a real plot structure. It's just, how Mike Birbiglia became a comic, didn't get married, and found out about his sleep disorder. Definitely worth a watch if you are a fan of his comedy.

The Karate Kid (The remake)
Still don't get why they called it that. Its an okay movie, but far from great. I think everyone talking about how good it was has never seen the original and didn't realize that the best parts of this movie were taken from the original, and they didn't make a single change that was for the better, or that was even notable, other than moving it to China, having them do Kung Fu, and still calling it the Karate Kid. The big positive is it really made me miss old Jackie Chan movies, so I might see if I can find some of those to watch.

I loved this movie. It's very bittersweet.

Oblivion. It wasn't bad, I guess. I enjoyed the environment of the movie the most, the shattered Moon and decrepit, Earth-buried cities and vehicle wreckage were awesome.

Star Wars IV A New Hope

Nyeow! Pyew pyew Pyew! Chewie we're gonna have company! Vhoom vhoom vhoom! You're all clear kid!

I mean, as adaptations of the cartoon show, they were pretty solid. But the cartoon show was a pretty terrible adaptation of the comic.
In that aspect I'd say that 1 and 3 were fantastic adaptations of the show, even more-so 3 if you read the later comics based on the show.

The first movie is not that bad when it comes to source stuff (compared to lot of adaptations). That whole leaving New York to hide in a farm is right out of the old Eastman and Laird comics. Splinter being Yoshi's rat and not Yoshi too. Casey Jones was only in like 3 episode of the show throughout it's whole run.

Their general attitudes and pizza shit is likewise, straight outta the cartoon. As is April being a reporter.

It's basically a mixture of the comics and cartoon. Anything beyond the first movie, is wholly cartoon, up to and including Michelangelo forgetting that he has nunchucks.

I remember reading the early TMNT comics, having only known the light-hearted cartoon show, back when I was in my early teens.

I think I was borderline traumatized. All that blood.

I just watched The Room.

.................

Hooooooleeeeeeey fuck was that bad! I don't... I don't even know where to begin. I lack the ability to communicate how bad this was.

YOU'RE TEARING ME APART LISA!

Oh, Hai Mark.

I did naht hit her. I did naht.

That flower shop scene was so... weird.

And for everyone watching Frank's video and thinking that all of the voices are dubbed in to be funny... you'd be surprised.

Yeah I guess I should rephrase that. Compared to the original TMNT comics there pretty much has yet to be a faithful adaptation. In terms of the first and second TMNTA movies, they're honestly solid in terms of substance and commitment to characters. Granted Mikey especially is turned into a total goof, but all in all that's how he's known now and that portrayal doesn't bother me.

I wish I could remember more clearly, but I think I auditioned for this. Not the movie itself, but when he was first trying to put together a stage play of it. I don't remember what part I read for or any details at all really. I just remember driving through LA and seeing a billboard for "The Room" and thinking "wasn't that a play I auditioned for?".

Gonna see a movie later this afternoon, but I'm trying to what to see: either Insidious 2 (I loved the first) or One Direction: This is Us.

One is a horrifying, emotionally scarring, nightmare-creating movie.

The other...is Insidious 2. :awesome:

Insidious 2

Really dug this, probably just as much as the first one. It's not particularly scary (at least, not for an old horror buff like me), but it's definitely creepy and really plays around with everything that was set up in the first one. Recommend if you're into this sorta stuff.

TMNT- Not a movie I've seen recently, but there was talk regarding the turtle movies, so I thought I'd just throw in my two-cents. I enjoyed the live-action movies enough, but I am a big fan of the CG movie that came out a few years ago. I know it has it's problems, but it's a beautiful movie all things considered, and they do a fantastic job with all of the characters. I might have a bit of bias though, as I saw the film during a test screening. When I saw the film again, I believe there was some additional dialogue from Mikey that were added, ones that were quite groan worthy. But other than that I enjoyed the tension between Leo and Raph. I enjoyed the villains. I enjoyed April and Casey's dynamic together. I thought the fights were amazing. Overall I was really really impressed, and I'm holding on to this movie.

I love bad movies, and The Room is like the the Citizen Kane of bad movies. It is only dwarfed by Plan 9 from Outer Space.

I think Plan 9 may be better. It at least had something of a plot. Like... at some point, someone thought something should happen somehow. The same can't be said for The Room.

Plus, I'm pretty sure Plan 9 wasn't meant to be some high-art fancy film. Tommy Wiseau seems to believe The Room is exactly that, which just makes the whole thing even worse.

I still go back and forth whether Shoot 'Em Up is awesome or horrible or both.

You mean the guy that is the writer, producer, executive producer, director -and- star of The Room thinks it is some form of deep, high art?

....

O hai Denny.
