[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

My brother's coming over for 4 days. Since he lives in South Africa, I don't get to see him much, so yay.
He should've been here around 2pm. "Oh no, I'll be later because I'm passing by my house in France, to see my wife". Fair enough.
"Oh, and I won't be eating at your place because I'll be passing by our parents'". Alrighy then.
"Oh, I'll be even later, jsut in time for bed". Oh, great.

All in all, I take a vacation day for nothing today. My girlfriend's off with her family having a good time, and I could've gone with them - if I had known my brother'd be a no-show 'till late at night. Didn't know 'till this morning. The food I made? Guess I'll throw it out. The friends who were coming over today? Yeah, sucks to be them, 'cause he isn't here.
Tomorrow and day after, he'll be here, I hope, but half of his friends won't - I've bugged him for weeks and months about plans and schedules so I could try and get everyone together, but alas.
He's (well, especially his wife's) the flaky one, and my parents just shrug it off with a "oh, you know you can't depend on plans with them", but I just think it's selfish and rude. They change their plans at the drop of a hat.Being spontaneous is all well and fun, but changing plans involving other people without proper communication sucks. These are the same people who, last year, were in Europe but couldn't be bothered to come to my place - I had to rearrange travel plans and drive all the way to France to see them, the day before setting off on a 3-week trip in the other direction. Practical.

Dammit, I have one brother, and I love him, but this sort of jerking around just pisses me off. I have a hard time dealing with changing plans and unexpected turns anyway, I don't like it when that also means some hard work is wasted, I have a free day to do absolutely diddly squat, etc etc. Grrr.

Some advice (tl;dr: scotchy scotch scotch)

I understand how you feel. It's really nothing serious, just an annoyance, but I don't make plans that often, so having them ruined seems...additionally stabby.

I have a terrible headache. In fact, I'm working from home because my computer room is pretty dark and the light is making it worse. Hell, if it weren't for the fact I got stuff to do logged in at work I'd probably be sleeping right now.

Instead, you guys are helping keep me awake and focused.

Please don't introduce yourself as my girlfriend when you run into my parents in your place of work. 1) They don't know you. 2) You aren't my girlfriend and 3) All you're doing is making me angry.

That's what happens when you put a penis in. They immediately think it's at that level.

Any luck finding him? I hope he's ok.
Yes I had to leave work early yesterday to meet a repairman. He came running from the backyard when I got home. He was one tired puppy. I had him do some water retrievals as a reward later, he was doing the swimming version of walking... I was also throwing two dummies at a time and he was getting majorly confused by that.

So I gave clingy girl another chance because I felt maybe I was overreacting. And we actually really clicked this time. She's definitely high energy and all that but she doesn't take herself seriously at all and she's just smiles and positivity all the time which is actually refreshing.

And fuck is she hot.

Really shitty quality but, you'll get the picture.

I hope you don't end up gutted Adam. Physically. As in she murders you and removes your guts. With a knife. A sharp one. Perhaps a spoon. Why a spoon cousin, why not an axe or something? Because it's dull you twit, it'll hurt more.

Try to avoid that.

I don't know why we guys get so uptight about the girlfriend label. It really is just a word. My friend decided she and her boyfriend were broken up, and since then their relationship's never been better, as he didn't feel pressured by the whole girlfriend thing. And I've had it happen in the past where I flew off the handle over it.

But it's just a word and doesn't merit the kind of reaction some of us give to it. I would say that her not taking herself seriously is a stronger statement of her personality than whether she calls herself girlfriend or no--perhaps to the point that the line is really blurry and unimportant to her.

Fair points. I wouldn't call myself a commitment phobe, quite the opposite. But I also feel like I'm just beginning to enjoy the freedom of being single. But at the same time, annoyed by the loneliness. Trying to find a good balance.

I've had sex a few times where I wanted it pretty damn clear that it was just sex and nothing more. Sadly not everyone got the picture.
I can still hear their shrill sobbing.... Damn. I've got four kiddos at home and I'd rather listen to them have tantrums and cry all day.

Man, diarising events to present to HR is stressful. I feel like I've done so much to give this employee a chance to tell the truth, and now I just have a bunch of lies and evidence of them. All for such petty, mean-spirited reasons. Dammit dammit.

Hey, you didn't do it to them, they did it to themselves. Hard lesson to learn for some, but you're an adult now, not a kid in elementary.

I have no illusions. Kicker for me is this person is 7 years older than me, and is behaving far more like an entitled teenager than perhaps anyone I've dealt with. You know, it turns out relentless self-indulgent negativity doesn't pay off, especially when you have to lie to make it seem true. Ah, shit.

I just realized that my post may have been worded poorly, the "you're an adult now" was meant at the person you are dealing with, not you. I don't think you took it the wrong way, but I do want to be clear about my reference.

I know people that are 10-15 years older than me that act the same way. Honestly, at 50+ you shouldn't still be acting like a college student and going to bars and getting drunk (I mean really shit-faced here) every weekend. You're older, you should know better than to be such a blasted idiot, but that doesn't change for some people. True story, I graduated with a girl (she's still a "girl" now, not a woman) that is still doing this crap every weekend, whines to friends that we have in common (I don't deal with her directly, but we live in a smaller town...) that she can't find a stable relationship or somebody that is worth holding onto. Seriously, the problem isn't the other people, it's YOU (her).

Oh nooooo! I remember when this happened to my niece. Heartbreaking. Good luck.
Her first night without her tiger doll was ok. But it also was sad for me. She told me that she is now a big girl and she is going to sleep alone without her tiger, but also she didn't let me tell her a story as I always do. Also she is telling everyone the story of how she lost her tiger.

If, for some unimaginable reason, any of you end up buying advertising on a radio station, never get "live mentions." 5 or 10 second, doesn't matter. Always get recorded spots. Live mentions are the biggest ripoff since car dealership "rust undercoating." Why? Because jocks don't think they have to do them. Doesn't matter how much you remind them this is their damn job, they'll just skip them, because if they wanted to work for a living they wouldn't have become radio DJs (and there aren't even actual disks any more). And, of course, everybody else will pretend they got read and invoice/report to the client everything went a-ok, because why rock the boat, right?

One of these days we're gonna get busted on this, mark my words.

Nah, how could gundecking ever fail?

The DJs around here, on the rare occasions I am listening to the radio, can't seem to not mention some company or something, though. Must be more strictly managed or something.

Huh. You've taught me a new term today. Thanks Chad.

As for your second part, oh, sometimes they'll read something, just not what they're supposed to. They'll mention a public service announcement just because it's on a handy list and program directors like that sort of thing when they do it, or as we've had to stomp on many times around here, they'll just start talking up something else they're involved with - some of our DJs are also promoters/club performers, and they'll gab about the upcoming show despite not having purchased anything. We've had to fire a DJ or two who wouldn't stop plugging his club's upcoming shows instead of actual paying clients.

So yeah, they'll say SOMETHING cause they got to say something, but unfortunately for clients it just probably won't be what was scheduled to be said there.

Hey, as long as they mention the station call letters about 8 times between songs, they're ok, right?

So far as the program director (who is really just a DJ with seniority) cares. Almost every Jock and PD I've met in this business has given me a Randall Graves vibe. IE, "This job would be great if we could just get rid of the things that pay our salary." Granted, upper management/ownership isn't much better on the other side of the coin ("Any commercial set that goes by under 4 minutes long is MONEY LEFT ON THE TABLE AND I WON'T HAVE IT"), but sheesh.
